  1. I put quite abit of effort into many of my caches to try and earn fav points. I LOVE when seekers of my caches reward me with a log of their adventure, some are very well done and I've enjoyed a good chuckle once or twice because of the logs (it's a real disappointment when I've made a big effort to make a special cache and I get a log that says, 'TFTC' or 'found'). I have a suggestion on how to encourage cachers to write an actual log rather than just 'TFTC' or 'found'. It would be nice if COs could rate the logs posted on their caches. Maybe with a star rating scale or a fav point. When a geocacher gets so many 'log points' they could earn a souvenir for their profile. Does anyone else feel this would be a good idea?

  3. This forum has been VERY inspiring to me. Here's my contribution, one I did that I really like, I called Sunk'n GC32YJV (this photo shows the bottom view of this cache) but the cache is mounted on a piece of chain link fence about 4' high so the bottom is not obvious upon approach - I used a piece of central vacuum tube and bought 2 end caps - I drilled holes through the bottom and glued it to the pipe. The top I sanded the inside so it slips off easily. When you lift off the top you can see a piece of #10 gauge copper wire that can be pulled out and a pill bottle that says 'geocache' but it's not possible to get the pill bottle out. You need to use the wire and stick it through a hole on the bottom to push the cache up to get it out. Here's a link to picture enlarged Sunk'n ... I also put a small piece of bubble wrap at the bottom of the tube to cushion the pill bottle when it's dropped back inside
  4. One of my favorites that I did was 'Funky Monkey' GC2ZX98, an old piggy bank made from a coconut. I sealed the slot with silicone and made a swing cover for the bottom, filled the piggy bank with some bubble wrap and placed a matchbox container inside. I chained it to a branch of the tree - it ended up getting stolen but I got some great comments while it lasted ... click on the link to see a larger photo
  5. One of my caches (made from a piece of central vac tubing) - it has a bit of bubble wrap for the inside bottom, a larger 'pill bottle' for the cache container that contains a log book and small items, and a piece of #10 gauge copper wire) ... to get the cache out the finder must use the copper wire and push it through one of the holes on the bottom to bring the cache container up to the top. I called this cache (sunk'n) ... the cache is mounted about 4' high, so the holes on the bottom are not obvious. The bubble wrap is a cushion for the cache being dropped back into the container. The top is to keep rain/snow out and has been chained to the fence (so it doesn't get lost) and sanded inside so it slips off easily
  6. I'm new to this and I live in a small town, so I will have to travel at least an hour to get to some caches, once I find the ones in my area. I've read some of the cache logs and on the old caches and they don't seem to have any recent activity. I'm wondering, are they ALL still able to be found - even after a year or two (even if the logs don't have any current postings about them)?
