  1. If your working with GSAK, here is what you should do. First download the caches you want into GSAK default folder. Once they are downloaded into GSAK, you can export them to mapsource by clicking: "file - export - mapsource file" this will create a .mps file that you can open with mapsource. You'll see all the caches you exported. Finaly, save it as a .gdb file for future use with mapsource.
  2. I wanted a name that was in the same situation. I just e-mailed "contact@geocaching.com" explaining the situation and within 10 minutes, I had the name I wanted. PS: It also didn't have any log related to it.
  3. You could create your POI with mapsource that would become waypoints and then transfer them into you unit. But without a software like Metro Guide or City Select that are not free, you won't have many maps details for citys you would only have major raod and highways showing with your waypoints.
  4. You could do that with GSAK with no problem and you could also try EASYGPS. They are both free expect that for GSAK, after 21 days you'll get a nag screen unless you register but you can still use it. I myself did register to GSAK for 20.00 and it's worth every penny. You could also become a premium member here and would be able to download cache in .GPX format which contains much mure information. The thing when downloading in .loc file, every cache is downloaded under geocaching.loc so it always asking if you want to overwrite the previous one.
  5. Hi iflyrce2 That's what I can't figure out, he should get a normal popup window with his drive and directories but it doesn't seem that way????
  6. Well I don't understand. When you open mapsource and click on "file" "open" you should get a window from where you choose the directory and then the file you are looking for. This is the window that should open. Don't try to understand what is written. In my case it's in french. Unless you can read french
  7. Go to the cache page and download the .loc file into a directory on your hard drive. Open map source, click on file, open the file you just downloaded. It will show up as a waypoint. To transfer to GPS, you can send it with mapsource by clicking on "transfer" "send to device" You can also get EASYGPS or GSAK to manage your waypoints and send them to your unit.
  8. I usualy take a few pictures on a cache sight. First, where the cache is hidden. These ones are for me and I never put them on the cache page. I also take a picture of the container for proof but I take it away from the site so nobody can tell where it's hidden. This one I can put on the cache page.
  9. I usualy use PQ for what I'm looking for but I still have a question. When I go to my account and click on "find nearest from home coordinates" we get the listing of all geocaches. We have the option to check and download the ones we want but the download is only in .loc files. Would it be possible to have the option of having them in .GPX files. Thanks
  10. Go the Premium member feature link at the top right of your profile screen and find Pocket Quesries. With PQs you can generate the file you want. Yeah, I knew about the PQ, I already use it but I thought it would have been easier and quicker when clicking on search for nearest to home coordinates, to be able to download the ones you want in .GPX, just by checking the boxe on the cache list
  11. I have a question, when I get the list of waypoints near my home coordinates, you can put a check on anyone of them for download. But it seems you can only download them in .loc files. Is there a reason why it cn't be downloaded into .gpx files when your a premium member?
  12. Good thing that the fiance is also hooked, could have been a serious problem
  13. Good luck and be nice to your husband and have him buy you a GPS, its so much fun with a unit.
  14. I just made a test and with the 60C, its seems you can put the state of NY entirely. For your travels, you transfer the maps you need for the route you'll be travelling but with City Select you can put a lot of maps in the 56 megs. Different map sections take different space on the GPS.
  15. Once I had trouble trying to unlock with the unlock wisard. I went on Garmin's webpage and followed the instructions from there to get the unlock code. On the web site, click on Mapsource unlock if your problem is getting the code.
  16. That's when I think Google Earth comes in handy. I often look over head to see if there is an easyer way to get to the cache. Stops me from sometimes getting in the woods to soon and often saw a trail that we couldn't see on ground level.
  17. Mine is an Ipaq Z-1710 that I use with GPXsonar.
  18. Merci, je pense que Charlevoix est un des plus beaux endroits du Québec pour y avoir été à plusieurs reprises. J'attends avec impatience de pouvoir y retourner pour faire quelques caches.
  19. Got a case for my LegendC and a case for my Ipaq. Just in case
  20. Mapsource installed, download the cache file .loc into a folder, open it with Mapsource (you'll see it as a waypoint) then I beleive you can download it to your GPS using Mapsource. Edit: I suggest you use EASYGPS or GSAK to manage your caches files.
  21. For me, what I like in the game is not just finding the cache. I could be on top of it and wouldn't see it But what I find cool, is going out, discovering places I never saw before, places that are in my backyard and didn't even know about. Solving the puzzles, going in the woods, walking to the cache, working with my unit. It's like going on a trip, the best part is planning it, going to the airport or whatever. Once the trip as started, the first thing you know, it's over. edit: its not the cache itself that keeps me going, it's finding the hidden bag with a million dollar in it
  22. I never had this problem with mine, LegendC, it always shows me on the road I'm traveling unless I really zoom in and that it shows "over zoom" on the screen. I know there is an option "lock on road" on the Legend, I don't know about the ones you own.
  23. I agree with that. As for the "rule" wouldn't be to always have TB available for other cachers. I mean, if there were 10 tb in the cache and everyone took 2 or 3 without leaving any, it wouldn't take long the cache would be empty no?
  24. I have a Legend C which does what you need and it is mounted on my motorcycle with the bicycle bar mount and there are absolutly no vibration. It just clips on and I think the size of the unit is excellent for a bar mount. The bicycle bar mount comes with two rubber pads (different thickness) for smaller or bigger bar. PS: I agree with Briansnat as for the buttons beeing on the side but you get use to it and you can push on any one of them by putting your hand on top of the unit and just using your thumb for one side and your index for the other side. I can change to what ever page I want without blocking the screen. Even at 70 MPH.
