  1. hey can any one tell me how i can load gpx files into the app off line? I often put a back up of my gsak search onto my phone in case the garmin throws one of its tantrums.. so i can reload them on the fly.. With the old app i could just from the front page .. you could search for all .gpx on the device then load it in the offline lists.. just cant seem to find search on the new app... ( other than searching while in data and saving for off line..)
  2. I have been trying to address this issue on the gsak forums, but so far all advise hasn't corrected it... ( wondering if it has something to do with the change in map supports between geocaching and google? when i open gsak, and go " get geocaches", and then :" google map" i get the script error Line: 404 char:7 Error" "google" is undefined Code:0 Url: ( gsak temp file with associated lat long if i click yes.. nothing happens.... the only thing that has changed for me is upgrading computers from vista to win10, installing gsak on the new machine ( registered copy...) any tips?
  3. Hey there,. i was having the same / similar problem having recently upgraded to a 64s from the 62s.. finding i could figure out how to load the caches to the 64s but could not see them on screen no matter what i did... thank fully i have been using GSAK for a while.. and was able to figure out to do a dual load of all the caches using GSAK.. ( first as waypoints, so i could see their locations on the map and navigate to them, and then second as caches.. so i could then switch over and navigate to them in the vicinity..) today i got the latest patch for GSAK and it now supports the 64s.. problem solved.. although GSAK is now loading them as a GGZ file in the GGZ dir...highly recommend getting GSAK... the most basic reason.. you can wander in feeling like a spot of caching to day .. whip up a map radius around where you think you want to go .. and hey presto they are loaded to your device... come home with 50 found caches... all you do is type the logs.. and it does all the publishing and linking of TB's.... while you go get a cold one... yeah
  4. for what its worth.... albeit perhaps a little off topic.... i am using GSAK.. and its never faltered for streamlining all things cache management - loading heaps or publishing heaps..) recently with the up grade to 64s, like so many people i ran straight in to the problem of being able to load caches but not see them on the map...thank fully GSAK has just published the latest patch that cures this problem ( caches are now loaded in the GGZ dir as a GGZ file rather than former gpx..) highly recommend taking this route.. the purchase cost of the GSAK licence is worth every cent... the only problem i have now.. is the appearance of caches on the map view have dropped from the previous 5km... to 300m...?? is there nay way to alter this up?
  5. had my 62s for a couple of years now, and its started doing weird stuff regularly.. something so far i have not been able to cure with a factory reset... what am i missing?... examples include; The most common: the trip odo will not reset..I clear timers and clear the track log at the start of a trip - occasionally, the odo stays correct, mostly however lately, at the next look the odo has suddenly jumped to some impossible number for that trip? sometimes gpx files appear on the drive in the garmin gpx dir, until i start the gps .. then they are missing - re boot.. no change.. then i tired putting them on the sd.. often the same thing happens.. but when i connect to the computer they are still there in the gpx dir. cut and reload and suddenly it works ( assuming corrupt file) the latest being, out for a kayak and suddenly the cursor starts travelling across the screen in a random direction ( i didnt see it start) but it simply would not respond to keys.. took the batteries out and re started.. cleared it for a little while then it would start again.. once again not responding to keys... batteries out.. couple of hours later - running fine>? the first couple of years i could rely on it..( always had a compass and map any way.. never needed to use them..) these days.. it seems to be up to all kinds of trips. i reset by holding down the right keys and re starting.. and have done a reset by the menus in the device.. neither seem to have corrected the bugs.. is there another way .. or am i missing something? cheers frustrated alligator..
  6. mmm thanks.... is that regardless of what's on the sd card -= mine is a third party mapping. have re seated it - seems to be all good? but problem keeps occuring
  7. hi have a garmin 62s, loaded with the garmin basemap, opengps maps and, memory map on chip... recently i have started having a problem where i turn the GPS on and only the base map is showing on the screen - the only way i can get opengps mpa back is to "restore defaults" ( this problem seems to be profile specific) this is a pain because i then have to back and re set all my custom navigation fields... after a couple of years of use, i have got to wondering if like computers the memory in these needs a clean and format? so far i have restored factory settings, and re loaded the latest version of opengps maps.. no change...? cheers alligatorsnz
  8. unusual behavior (perhaps related perhaps a coincidence) started;\ a month back where trip time and data did not match the trip, then couple of weeks ago it would just simply turn off rather than do a requested task ie: verify or comment in geocache mode, next i was in mid navigation to a cache and it would just keep stopping navigation - regardless of how many times i re started it. then it various profiles started loosing the auto routing (nz open gps map) but my topo on the extra chip and the base map continued to work... now the start up hangs while loading "way points, tracks and routes" - at approximately half way through.... after at least 8 attempts to start it - it would hang - my instinct thus is to remove all tracks, way points and caches, re start, re load the latest open gps maps - tried attaching it to a computer in a internet cafe but it would not recognize it....so ill give that a go when i get to one that will..in the mean time any suggestions>
  9. I am often frustrated by the size of the "you are here" garmin triangle when navigating on maps,, having just had a look in the units garmin dir, would i be right in saying the garmintriangle.... icon file there is actually the one - so presumably i could swap it for something more to my liking? and where would i find alternative icon files? cheers alligator
  10. thanks - thats awesome - a puzzle now solved. - i take it to clear that log you just clear the contents of the txt file actual file? cheers
  11. i know the gps essentially estimates where it thinks you are going to be... but given it also knows the barometric pressure and gps altitude - ( gpsmap62s) can one assume that when the trip distance comes out of the trip computer at the end of the day that this has measured ever single actually varying terrain length rather than just the as the crow flies flat distance. i note that when i look at the elevation chart in the track log it is always some where between 1 and 2 km's shorter then the total track log indicated on the trip computer? thanks
  12. Garmin GPSmap62s - when i am in geocahcing mode and note a cache found, it gives me the option to add a comment.. my question is how do i retrieve this comment later on when plugged in to the PC logging my finds? it doesn't show up in base camp... ?? thanks.
  13. why cant i load geocaches direct to my mircoSD card - when i send them across from Gsak, they seem to drop straight in to the Gps memory - and any i load manually to the microSD cant be seen? i have noticed how much the gps has slowed since i added geocaches - so would prefer they were stored in the sd?
  14. i know i have just read a topic on this very question but i am darned if i can get it to appear in the search.... any how... have just popped a mico sd card in to my garmin map 62s but; while the sd card appears happily in base camp and i can manually load and access all my normal way points to it, ( noting how the unit memory operations slowed when all the caches and waypoints where in its memory) and access them, when i use gsak to load the latest pocket queries they seem to go straight to the main memory.. how do i get these geo caches on to the sd card by default? i have had a look at gsak help and there is only reference to a different kind of receiver... when it talks bout sd cards. interestingly.. why do geocaches not show up in base camp?
  15. oh look i just found another way to get rid of all those geocaches from the geocache function... simply open the gps as a drive - in the case of the garmin - go to the garmin directory - geocache dir, and then delete the appropriately named gpx file ( in this case it was 2222 caches in an 11mb file... solved):-)
  16. i down loaded the latest map update iso file for this unit using the nav desk but it simply wont install it.. Can i do it manually - as a drive - rather than using nav desk? where does a navman keep its maps (what dir?) does the iso require unzipping? or just be placed like that thanks
  17. i know i am missing something - but before i was a premium member i used to load the caches manually to my garmin gps map62s as way points - and then after completing them remove them in garmin basemap.. or delete them from the gps manually. how the devil do i do this now i am a premium member and the caches are loading under the geocache function of the 62s - they don't even show up on the basemap - and i cant seem to find a delete menu in the gps? so i mastered how to get the caches on there using gsak - but how do i register those i have done and then remove them from the gps? its going to be a simple answer but i darned if i can find it so far cheers
  18. where do i get a desiccant like silca gel in auckland new zealand?
  19. Thanks so much " The A Team" - that was far more help:-) my faith is restored - wow that Gsak is a good bit of kit isnt it:-) ( look like decode encypts was defult but not hints:-) cheers alligatorsnz
  20. seems you don't remember when you were new to the systems and some one might have helped you - thanks for nothing mate... now where did it tell me that it wasn't just a website search.. or that it would take all day to arrive - and while we now have the clue included in the information we still cant read it.. now remind me why i took the bait and up graded to premium.. seems i was getting with no difficult as a basic member.. ( oh and people seemed friendlier then too)
  21. ok, did try the PQ out and you are right they are very useful - and i could choose a location by using a gc code in the area as a centre.. however i found even after i received the PQ in my email - so i downloaded and opened the file in gsak - only to find that all though the clue is now here - its still encrypted.. its going to be a major pain to go through and decypt them all! what am i doing wrong still? i was also surprised to find that i cant seem to do a PQ when i need it- but have to wait some time for it to arrive in the email? so now it looks like have to pre plan.. even more..?
  22. thanks but for that.... i did look at Pocket Queries, maybe i am confused but they didn't seem to give me the control to choose which caches i wanted when.. ie: load up a specific bunch for a an caching outing in a particular area, rather i get the impression it just chucks you all the caches in a certain radius of the type you like- which given i use my gps for other navigation purposes is not so friendly on memory? hence i was using send to - so i could pick and choose those relevant to the location? or did i get that wrong>
  23. New to a premium membership, when i save caches to my gps - ie: send the gpx file - i cant seem to include the cache clues.. the file seems to have the information and the logs only but not the clue text that is in between.. frankly i would rather do with out the logs and keep the clue - is there are set up i have missed??
  24. thanks - yeah i thought that.. .. despite loading the open gps map in to the garmin dir it doesnt appear in the map selection ( settings- my maps?) i am aware from my gpsmap62s, that you need a base map to exist under the opengps layer - the question being - in that unit the base map is called worldwide basemap - this doesnt appear to be in the nuvi - only the middle east... and i cant find a way to delete the middle east maps - mind you if i do - will there be no base map?
