  1. this one is for all of you that are tired of trying to find a film canister in the middle of the woods.

    That's a great idea. :drama:

  2. Another option is to steal the cache that is too close. Go back a few days later and issue an SBA and when it's archived your spot will be open.

This method has the additional advantage of you getting a new container and trade items for your next placement.

You forgot to add the smiley. :D

    <_<<_<

  3. I can't think of any issues where I have my view has been reversed, but many times it has moved one way or the other. The forum may not have defined my view but the have refined them.

The biggest thing I've gained is just knowledge. Reading about others experiences, be it with containers, types of caches and so on, I have gain knowledge based on experience. Because of that I have changed the way I cache and look at others caches and my own. I think the forums have made me a better cacher.

    Same here.

  4. I have a few questions about planning a CITO event

Does the event have to be in the woods? Or a park? For instance, I have permission to clean up a historic grotto in Warren, New Jersey and I thought that It would be fun to have geocachers come along (since there's a geocache there already) Is that allowed? Does this qualify for a cito?

No, a CITO event does not have to be in the woods or a park. As for you're idea for a CITO event it sounds like a great idea to me. ;)

  5. Hello everyone,

Our names are Mark&Beth and we are from Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada. We are travelling to the Louisville on Wednesday for a week to watch the Derby and be tourists, and OF COURSE cache!

We were just wondering if there are any caches in the Louisville area that are MUST-DOs. This is our first caching trip out of our region and country so we want to make it a memorable one. We also want to find some benchmarks (since Canadian benchmarks don't count), and do a little Waymarking.

Oh something I just thought of... is there anything that could be hazardous (wildlife, plantlife, etc..) to people that are wandering in the woods not knowing what to look for.

It'd be great to meet some local cachers while down there, but I don't know if time will allow that. We will be bringing some of our geocoin collection (or at least our favorites!) just in case we come across other cachers along the way.

    Thanks & Happy caching!!

    M&B

Waverly Park has a lot of nice caches, there is something there for everyone and Iroquois Park to has some good caches as well. ;)

  6. I'm wondering did any one go to the Windy Rock CITO in Bardstown Kentucky this weekend?

Neos 1 and I went, though we were a little bit late (not as late as some people though!). The group did a nice job, and got a lot of the area cleaned up and cleared out.

After the work day was over, folks lounged, or played guitar and sang, or fished a little. Then we created a huge bonfire with some of the dead wood we had piled up and we made hobo dinners over the fire--YUMMY! We sat around telling tall tales to each other and just enjoying the company and the fine weather. Some folks spent the night; we, unfortunately, had to come home. Hopefully the weather will be almost that nice for this Octoberfest at Windy Rock year--last year it got down to 25 overnight--brrrr!

Sound's like you had fun, I would have went but it was too far from home for me. But I hope to go to the Octoberfest at Windy Rock this year tho. B)

  7. Years ago we found a gold mine in SW Oklahoma near Altus. I want to find it again, but I can't find it as an active cache.

You could almost drive to the mine. In fact, when you parked, you would be very close to a large wooden sign describing the mine. To paraphrase, the sign said that gold hunter purchased the mine and built the structure, but never did find much gold. So, they walked into the mine with a shotgun packed with gold dust, and with a little creative gold dust wall painting, they were able to sell the mine for a large profit. They then disappeared.

The structure is distintive. As I recall, there were three large cement structures that looked like huge steps, and on the top there was a water tower built out of rock and cement. The cache was hidden in the rocks of the water tower.

We never could find the actual cache, so I can't look at my old cache finds, and I can't find a cached that matches this description. I think that it was deactivate.

Does anyone know where this mine is located, or does anyone know how to search historical cache logs? If I could search the cache logs, I could search for my old username, and I would eventually find the cache.

    Any help?

If you made a DNF log for it, you can check out all of your DNF's you have gotten over the years at your account on www.geocaching.com. I hope this helps.

  8. This might have been discussed somewhere else, but I am unable to find it. I noticed on a preview of the Amazing Race for Sunday April 29th that one of the team members is holding a Garmin GPSMap 60cx, does anyone know if they are in fact searching for a geocache in that episode or are just trying to find a clue with the unit. It would be great exposure if it is in fact a geocache that they are looking for with the clue for their next pit stop.

I have no idea, but it would be cool if they did. :anicute:

  9. Try making that 8 teenagers on a muddy path, in the dark. Oh yeah. With one flashlight. ;) That would be us last week: The Eyes Have It #2 log

I'm not sure which was worse - the girls whining about the mud wrecking their shoes, or the boys whining about how they might accidentally drop their cell phones IN the mud. It's not like they weren't warned. Sheesh. ;)

    Teenagers.

  10. We got up and left at 6:45 in the morning and it took us 20 minutes to half an hour to get there by bike. We left our bikes in a clearing and marked it as a waypoint. We started off fine then the GPS malfunction began. For the most part it either sent us in circles or told us 350 feet one way and then about 50 feet in it would tell us 220 feet in the opposite direction. We gave up and just started looking and I found it. We followed the trail to the road and walked about 20 minutes to the main entrance to get our bikes. We were going to go to another one but we stopped at dairyqueen first and then it started raining. ;)

    Cool story. :P

  11. :) Hey Kentucky Cachers! :anicute:

Good idea to have our own slice of the forum fun.

Hope to see lots of cachers in April at the Lake Cumberland/Dale Hollow event.

Are you planning on doing any sandals hiking this weekend emurock? :)

I was impressed you made it through the day at the trailmix in those. Cache on!

I will not be going to the Lake Cumberland/Dale Hollow event. Now that spring break is here I will try and get some caching done. But not in Louisville, because I will be going up north away's to get my spring break caching. I all ways go up north on spring break to visit family and I try to get some caching done as well. But I do not konw if I will be wearing sandals because of this new cold weather and the fact that I am going north. But if it's warm enough I will wear'm. :)
