  1. This worked an absolute treat. Thank you. I had no idea you could amend the cache coordinates if you weren't the cache owner, let alone keep them from other peoples view!
  2. I think so. I just want to be able to load or amend the correct coordinates rather than the fake ones that are posted with the cache description. It looks like GSAK may be my best bet. I hadn't heard of this prior to this thread, so thanks to everyone for their advice.
  3. Hey all. I own an Oregon 300, and after spending a wintry evening solving puzzle caches I tried to see if I could overwrite the false coordinates in the cache description with the correct ones I had worked out. I want to do this for roughly 30 caches that are within a radius of about 3 miles so that they appear on the same map screen and so that I can work out the best and most efficient route to take to collect them all, rather than find one, then enter the next set of coordinates only to find I passed it on the way to finding the previous one. If I can't do this on the Oregon, is there an app that will allow me, or maybe I can write my own .gpx file? If so, how do I go about this? Thanks in advance. Jason
  4. Probably! I have MM on PC and use/used GSAK to make an overlay for MM. You don't get any cache information... But do get the cache location, so can navigate to the cache. GSAK and the macro rMMe.gsk by rutson is what I used to get the cache info onto the PDA version of MM. Thanks Bear and Ragged. You've answered my question for me. Stick with the Garmin.

  6. Hopefully a nice simple question. Can the memory map GPS units be used for geocaching?
  7. Isn't that precisely what you are asking for? I have entered my location in my Geocaching.com profile, so i can only assume this is used to sort the recent caches. The events are still sorted according to date order rather than distance.
  8. I recently suggested to Groundspeak that they sort the events in their weekly email according to distance rather than date. This would allow the recipient to instantly see what is happening near him/her rather than trawling through the list. I suggested it should be possible as the the recent geocaches are sorted according to distance. Groundspeak suggested I start a discussion in the forum to see what other users think. So here it is people. What are your thoughts?
  9. Hey Andy, good to hear from you again. It sounds like you keep yourself busy on the geocaching front! If you could email those GC codes, that would be a great help. Rather than put my email here, just use the contact member option in geocaching.com Look forward to hearing from you. Best regards, Jason
  10. Hi Jason, good to hear from you (Plymouth this summer). I keep a pretty much up to date GSAK db for the whole country, and it has archived caches for about the last year but not before. I just ran a query on that and came up with 1483 archived caches with TBs in them. I think this won't be as reliable as a proper query would be, because it takes a month to update my entire db, and archiving has to be on the basis of not being refreshed for a complete cycle. There is scope for TB activity to take place which my capture never sees. Nevertheless, I can send you a list of GC codes if you wish. Won't be responding until tomorrow evening - very early start in the morning, going to the quarries and caves at Bath, for about the 10th time :-))) Rgds, Andy
  11. I recently found a cache that had been archived purely by chance whilst searching for a live one (which I did eventually find). Contained in the cache was a TB that had lain dormant for months as the cache had obviously been archived without physically removing it from it's resting place. I emailed the owner, much to his delight, and sent the TB back on it's travels. Following this I tried to run a pocket query searching for archived caches that contain TB's etc, but archived caches isn't one of the options. I know you can search on TB rescue, but this relies on the owner uploading the details. I asked geocaching.com if they could enable archived caches to be searchable, but they declined, so I asked them if they would run a query and send me the results. that was over a month ago, and despite a couple of gentle reminders, I haven't heard anything back. Does anyone have any ideas how I can go about finding these lost TB's? Thank you all in advance. Jason
  12. This really is the worst idea ever...could be time to find another geocaching site. What on earth gave the site owners the idea that challenging someone to kiss a frog, as was the first challenge that popped up, is likely to be of interest to someone who is in to geocaching. Save this sort of thing for the flash mob lot.
