  1. We just ran into a similar error message. See my reply here: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=223097
  2. We just had the same error, and started to do a little investigation, and found the when we used quotes within the Zone names, it caused the error. Other "illegal" characters may cause the same problem. Suggestion. Save your work periodically to a new file name each time. Then reload the latest cart that works before proceeding. Then if it fails, you have not lost all of your work.
  3. Here is a link to the exact HTML code as used each month for our NWOGEO Meet & Eats: Template And again, this same code works fine when copy and pasted to the "Long Description", AFTER the first cache page submission, regardless of what was submitted the first time.
  4. I use the same HTML code each month. If I submit the code when I initially create the page, it fails. So I have recently started to submit the page the first time, with essentially a blank "Long Description", then "Edit" the page and insert the HTML. (Just like "Show Stop" mentioned above.) So the HTML does works the first time, however only if the page has already been submitted at least once previously. And has PJPeters mentioned above, this problem also exists when you try to copy the code from the "Long Description" of an previous cache to a new cache.
  5. I have been using the same Tenergy 2600mAh NiMH rechargeables from BatteryJunction.com for over three years now with great performance. Tenergy AA: http://www.batteryjunction.com/1po20aaba.html They also have some Titanium 2700mAh batteries that are billed as the "Worlds Best Battery". Titanium AA: http://www.batteryjunction.com/1po20aaba.html I think I may pick up some of these since my Tenergy batteries are starting to get a bit old, and I also use them in a Mini-Mag LED flashlight, so they have been through many usage cycles. The differences reported here on the performance of various brands of batteries, my well be in how they were charged and cared for. BatteryJunction.com has some great advice on the care and feeding of your rechargeables! Follow their advice and whatever brand you use should give you their best performance. 6. Great work around WVRadar! I just tested it and it worked for me just as you described. Curiously however, even though it printed correctly, the Print Preview was still missing the info above "Short Description". So if anyone else uses this work around, do not be discouraged if you still do not see the info in the Print Preview. I also tried to highlight the entire page including the map, and it failed, as you sort of implied. Hopefully, this information will help GS get the root of the problem. (For those unfamiliar, we are talking about the options for printing that are available from Internet Explorer's "File", "Print" menu choices and NOT by just clicking on the Print Icon. In IE 7 and 8 you can also choose these menu choices from the printer drop down menu by clicking on the arrow next to the Print Icon.)
  7. I have been using CacheBerry on my BlackBerry Storm 9130 with great results. Besides continually updating the software, the author is also very receptive to suggestions. Here is what I posted on our local NWOGEO.org forums recently: CacheBerry Version 1.5 (1.99.94 Beta, 21-March-2009) NEW! Geocaching Compass NEW! Storm version with multi-touch Supports Geocaching.com GPX format View comprehensive listing details View recent logs View and decrypt hints View Travel Bug® inventories Show cache on Google and BlackBerry maps Enter and Export Field Notes Sort by nearest, recent finds, waypoint, title Uploadable Field Notes Search waypoint, title, description and owner Import from SD-Card or USB transfer Links: From your PC: CacheBerry.com From your BB: OTA Link (it includes versions for BB OS 4.1 through 4.7) Here are a few actual screen shots from my Storm List screen example: Cache screen example: Compass view:
  8. My results differ a little from what MaxB has reported. I have noted this problem and reported it before. It has occurred with various computers, various operating system, various printers, various browsers and with various Internet providers. In other words, it does not look like an isolated problem on my end. In my case, all the information above "Short Description" is missing in BOTH the Print Preview and on the actual printed paper. It happens only with specific cache pages. And when it fails for a cache page, it fails consistently for that cache page. It is not intermittent. Today I noted that the print function failed for GCR8GH when "Simple [No Logs]" was selected, however it worked fine in both the Print Preview and when actually printed to paper, when "[5 logs]" or "[10 logs]" was selected. This is the first that I have noticed this, and will try to duplicate the test with other cache pages that have issues when I run into them. To avoid printing all the logs, I used File, Print from my browser, and selected only 1 page to print. Can anyone else confirm these results with this particular cache? "Print Preview..." of GCR8GH using "No Logs" in IE7.0.5730.11 under XP SP3:
  9. For several months now I have noticed that when I first submit our local Meet & Eat Event template to the Long Description in HTML, that the resulting page is severely malformed. When I submit the same template again via the cache page's "Edit" button it works fine. As a test, I just submitted our next cache event, and did not use any HTML for the initial submission. Then as above I submitted the HTML template for the first time via the cache page's "Edit" button and it worked fine. A couple other people who have submitted HTML cache pages have noted the same problem. The next time I submit a cache, I'll test it again by submitting a very simple HTML code the first time and see if it works ok on first try, before submitting the template. Here is the latest Event page that submitted successfully on the second try as above: http://coord.info/GC1PE1Q Contact me for a copy of the original HTML template if necessary.
  10. Since knowing the Day of the Week can be very important for events, it would be nice to have an Event Cache Page display the DOW next to the event date.
  11. Add BlackBerry Pearl 8130 to the list of SmartPhones that no longer display GC in a user friendly manner.
  12. Garmin says that as of last week, that they now have been able to duplicate the glitch and have their software engineers working on the issue. It looks like if effects any "x" model, and it does not matter which waypoint symbols, batteries or memory are used. The latest 3.50 firmware update released on 08/03/2007 does NOT fix the problem.
  13. Here is text from my post on NWOGEO.org regarding this glitch and how we have refined the process to test for it. "Fade to off glitch" (aka "Cheech Fluke") in Garmin GPSmap 60CSx (and possibly in other similar models) When a waypoint is deleted from the first (oldest) page of waypoints from a day in the Calendar page, when more than one page of waypoints exist for that day, the screen fades to dark, and GPS unit turns off. (Nine waypoints display per page.) This glitch was reported on NWOGEO.org by "Cheech Gang." This use this revised step-by-step method to see if your GPS unit will duplicate this glitch. 1. Clear all waypoints: Press FIND, Waypoints, press MENU, Delete, All Symbols 2. Create 10 waypoints: (It is assumed that the glitch will occur with any waypoint symbols.) Press the MARK then ENTR button combination 10 times to create waypoints 001 through 010. 3. Navigate to the Calendar feature: Depending on your menu setup, press PAGE repeatedly or MENU then arrows to find Calendar feature. 4. Display list of waypoint for the date you entered them: Press ENTR on date where waypoint are entered 5. Delete waypoint 001. Scroll down to waypoint 001, press ENTR, Delete, Yes The glitch is confirmed if your screen fades to dark and unit turns off. Please report your results with the following: 1. Model: 2. Software Version: 3. GPS SW Version: 4. "Battery Type" in Setup: (Alkaine, NiMH, or Lithium Ion) 6. Actually battery type installed: 7. Memory chip size: 8. Glitch: confirmed or not confirmed (Version numbers are found at Setup, System, then press MENU, Software Version.) Once we have results from some other models we can report these results to Garmin.
  14. Although others have mentioned this problem, I thought I would expand on it and provide some more detail. Using IE7, the following information on a "Printer Friendly" page appears ok in the browser window, however for SOME caches it is missing when printed or viewed with Print Preview: GC logo with Signal the Frog (printerfriendly.png), waypoint type icon, geocache name, placed by & date, coordinates, size, difficulty, terrain, log counts, and disclaimer box. Therefore it appears that everything is missing above the "Short Description" except the GC waypoint name. "Printer Friendly" IE7 window screenshot "Printer Friendly" IE7 "Print Preview" screenshot A week ago I printed out 15 cache pages before I left to go out of town. 4 of the 15 "Printer Friendly" pages did not print correctly. Today I printed the "Printer Friendly" of GC13JMF (see screenshot), and had the same problem. So in my case at least, some pages print fine, while others do not.
  15. WARNING to 60Cx and 60CSx owners! Be careful your memory chips are properly aligned in the holder before turning on your unit! I've just burned a spot in the tranlucent coating on the back of the LCD panel from the backlight. Apparently the misaligned chip caused the backlight to burn too bright. When I powered on the unit, all I could see was an orange glow in the lower center of the screen. Once I corrected the alignment of the chip the GPS unit powered up ok, however it had a clear spot where it had glowed, when the backlight was lit. Although it is over a year old, Garmin has thankfully agreed to accept it as a warranty repair, and to expedite the repair to be within 5 days. 76Cs and 76CSx owners should not have this problem, as their memory chip holder is designed differently, and should prevent any misalignments.

  17. Waypoints are also missing from print friendly cache pages.
  18. Several of us in NW Ohio have discussed this, and I'm sure we can work it out. We can probably even help work out the confusion due to lost notes, and the confusion of logging the info to the wrong caches. I know I've got caches confused before, and logged the wrong info for some. Eventually I've figured them out. And losing your notes doesn't help! Besides an invite to our local Meet and Eats, you are also welcome to visit our local website at www.NWOGEO.org where we specialize in seeing how fast we can get specialized forums off-topic! Thanks to everyone here for their suggestions and help!
  19. Just updated to 2.70 Firmware. Garmin failed to notify me by email again! I'll report back status of previous issues as soon as possible.
  20. Using Version 2.60 Firmware, I've had this problem occur about 50% of the time lately, when I get near a cache. I have not reported it to Garmin yet. Another problem that occurs regularly is the inability to zoom in or out. I usually switch the the Sat screen, then back to Maps, and the zooming function returns.
  21. Back to the topic..... Here is an Excel formula you can use to convert to and from the waypoint name and the cache id number. First add this 31 character sting to the cell at position A4: 0123456789ABCDEFGHJKMNPQRTVWXYZ Add this text to cell A8: Input Cache ID Number Add this text to cell B8: Input Waypoint Name Suffix Add this text to cell C8: ID Result Add this test to cell C8: WP Result Add this formula to cell C10: =IF($B10<"G000",(FIND(MID($B10,1,1),$A$4,1)-1)*16^3+(FIND(MID($B10,2,1),$A$4,1)-1)*16^2+(FIND(MID($B10,3,1),$A$4,1)-1)*16^1+(FIND(MID($B10,4,1),$A$4,1)-1),((FIND(MID($B10,1,1),$A$4,1)-1)-16)*31^3+(FIND(MID($B10,2,1),$A$4,1)-1)*31^2+(FIND(MID($B10,3,1),$A$4,1)-1)*31^1+(FIND(MID($B10,4,1),$A$4,1)-1)+65536) Add this forumla to cell D10: =IF($A10<65536,MID($A$4,MOD(INT($A10/16^3),16)+1,1)&MID($A$4,MOD(INT($A10/16^2),16)+1,1)&MID($A$4,MOD(INT($A10/16^1),16)+1,1)&MID($A$4,MOD(INT($A10/16^0),16)+1,1),MID(($A$4),MOD(INT(($A10-65536)/31^3),31)+16+1,1)&MID(($A$4),MOD(INT(($A10-65536)/31^2),31)+1,1)&MID(($A$4),MOD(INT(($A10-65536)/31^1),31)+1,1)&MID(($A$4),MOD(INT(($A10-65536)/31^0),31)+1,1)) This should convert correctly between the ID and the WP for the old Hexadecial WP naming system and the current Base 31 system. You must input WP letters in capitals only, as I did not provide for case conversion. Note that the orginal Hexidecimal naming system used the number symbols 0-9 and the letter symbols A-F. The current system still uses the Hexidecimal system up to waypoint "GCFFFF", then starting with "GCG000" it cleverly switches to a Base 31 numbering system using the number symbols 0-9 and the letters symbols A-Z, with the letters "ILOSU" omitted to obviously avoid confusion with the allowed symbols, "1l05V". Just think, "I Love OSU" to remember them. It was pretty clever of Jeremy to invent this way of expanding the naming range without disrupting the original naming convention! Since "GC0000" never seemed to exist, the range changed from a limit of 65535 to 512400. Once I see how the "NEW" system will work I'll modify the Excel formulas. I am curious if the old waypoints will still be represented as "GCxxxx" or as "GC0xxxx". It may also be nice if the website added an option to strip the "GC" from the waypoint names for those downloading from the website to GPS units with only 6 waypoint character positions. My quick calculations today, show about 483 waypoint names were used per day since the beginning of the year. If that rate remains steady, we should see "GC10000" at about mid January 2007! My hunch is it will happen a lot sooner. Maybe someone will offer a prize to whoever snags that pivital Waypoint name! (Please don't flame me here if my quick calculations are off, just be sure to let me know if they are!)
  22. Can some other members test the Geocaching.com maps using Internet Explorer 7. ( My version reports as 7.0.6335.5)) The text which is supposed to be below the map, along with the buttons for zooming and id are hidden behind the map, and are not accessible.
  23. Since many Geocaching groups use software that reqiures BBCode instead of HTML, it would be handy if the Stat Bar page generated BBCode in addition to the HTML.
  24. After recently sending email via GC.com to several cachers who posted logs to an event page, a simple enhancement would have proved handy. Currently the subject line generated by GC.com says, "[GEO] GizmoGuy411 contacting you from Geocaching.com" Unfortunately several people replied by email directly and did not mention their usernames. Therefore I had no way to correlate their real names with their GC usernames. A simple change to the subject line to say, "[GEO] GizmoGuy411 contacting USERNAME from Geocaching.com" where USERNAME is the username of the email recipient would have helped, if they simply replied without changing the subject line.
  25. This is only a test. Please to not change the channel. Hummm.. Avatar fine..... Sig not so fine.
