  1. Ooh. This is very sad. I guess that's one way to get to 15500 finds! Logging your own cache, ten times, because you could not log ten other caches. Very sad. Wow. I guess people don't believe in karma. There is one fix to this. Change the software so you can only have one "Found It' per cache.
  2. I will say I find the shipping reasonable. Sure a patch can be shipped for 39 cents but that is not the whole cost. They have overhead like printers to print the labels, computers to track the orders, packaging to ship in, people who have to pick the order, etc... If they sold them for $3.39 shipped it would not be worth even selling them. Unlike many companies they don't charge more if you spend more money. I think that is very fair of them. Be smart and buy several extra patches for future use or to use as trade items. And yes I still think the color logos are best. I also vote for some high end quality stuff. I don't own a Tilly hat for nothing. I like "Guide Series" stuff from Gander Mountain. Columbia sportswear stuff is nice too.
  3. One of the wisest people I knew could not read or write. To superficially dismiss someone because of their spelling or grammar is arrogant and closed minded.
  4. Fishing with dynamite is illegal in every state even for people licensed to use dynamite for other reasons. Why? Because it is too easy and takes all the sport out of it. Just like pocket lint caches and micro spew. If you were trying to point out that everyone has different ethics that is one thing but you seem to be saying anything goes because you play your own game. You have a lot of choices when you go fishing. You can fly fish, you can bait fish you can use worms or you can use crickets. But you are not allowed to fish with dynamite and you should not be allowed to "find" a archived cache in someones pocket. Edited for spelling
  5. Rats! Didn't read the whole thread....share? Sorry to admit it guys but she was at my house 3 minutes ago and just left I don't know. She seems to have an interesting relationship with her brother. Something ain't right with that.
  6. Prove this statement. Did you hire Gallop to do a poll? How can you make a statement of fact with no evidence to back it up?
  7. Making the stats not pubic is ok with me. How about making a web site called geocheats.com and list cachers who participate in pocket caches and logging multiple caches during one event? Peer pressure and public humiliation is always a motivator to keep people honest. OMG someone all ready owns geocheats.com. I thought I was making that up. geocheats.net is available.
  8. I would like that a lot. I try to look for the historical or natural settings. That means spending a lot of time sorting through cache pages to find ones that are interesting to me. Being able to search for those then decide the best ones from the search would save a lot of time.
  9. I have not done any indoor caches yet. My GPSr doesn't always get a signal indoors. So how does that work? You just tear the place apart until you find the micro?
  10. I have a friend who travels the world on motorcycle. Even in country's like Russia where GPSr are illegal he calls it a "electronic map" and gets right through customs. If all else fails keep an extra $40 in cash set aside and offer an "import fee." He has been through 70 plus countries and beside having it stolen in South American when he took his eyes off it he has had no problem.
  11. I have not placed any yet because the really interesting places have been taken. So I have been working on coming up with a neat puzzle or multicache that would be historically interesting. Hypothetically speaking if a cacher has 50 hides but they are all micros in boring places and his coordinates are always a football field off well then they would be better off not placing them and just be a searcher. Not that I know any like that.
  12. I personally would not do it but to me it is not a big problem if someone else does. If that is how they want to play what the heck. Is it cheating? IMO yes, but not nearly as much as pocket caches and logging 30 times at the same event cache. Fix the larger problem then debating little infractions like this might mean more to me.
  13. I don't remember the software but I did get it to work. The problem I had was my iPaq was awful to try to read even on cloudy days. Just too bright outside. You might want to test yours first before spending a lot of time on it.
  14. Web page background music is a sign of a new webmaster trying all the bells and whistles. The midi music you can play is normally poorly done and all most always violating someones copyright.
  15. I do agree. What were they thinking? If they still have the patches just put them on your hat or shirt. You can buy paper for your ink jet printer that is iron on material. Print the logo and iron it on what you want to. I think it is fair use as long as you don't sell it. I am not a lawyer do at your own risk etc...
  16. I was half kidding. Truth is I think it would be ok protection against black bear but still requires the bear to be too close for comfort. If it is a Grizzly bear from what I have been told don't expect the spray to help much.
  17. Geocaching is an excuse to ride to some far off interesting location we have never been to before. I have a GL1800 and a DL650. The Wing is for the far away caches and the Strom is for those located off remote dirt or fire roads.
  18. The loud noise alone might frighten a black bear away. And any gun is better than pepper spray. All that does is add some seasoning to make you more tasty. Of course brown bear all bets are off. A 50 caliber Alaskan round would be what I would want. http://www.wildwestguns.com/ edited to fix spelling
  19. I guess I should qualify I am from south part of the LP. I have hunted in the north part of the LP and never seen a cougar. Right now it is big in the local news that cougars have been sighted. I am still skeptical but I did not know that anyone had spotted them in the nort of the LP so maybe some migrated this far south. I have had a CCW for about 4 years now. We are all talking about carrying while caching but there is a problem here that has not been discussed. Even if you have a CCW it is against DNR rules in Michigan to carry in a state park. It is my belief this is a civil infraction punishable by a fine of not more than $500. I bet most states have this restriction due to poaching. Now if it is during hunting season and you have a license and are in a area that allows hunting then you are OK. To check your state laws see http://www.packing.org Edited to fix link.
  20. Yup it would be a big step but I would set it up like this. I would have an email address where complaints could be sent. Anytime a cache owner deletes a log they have an option to email a complaint. Now I would not get in the middle of squabbles between a cache owner and a cacher but it would become quickly apparent what cachers were getting multiple complaints. And if pronounced king I would stop the practice of logging 50 finds on one event cache or archived cache. If this person was trying to make a point they did a good job. I guess if you get a few legit finds first you can post bogus finds with the only fear of having your log deleted but don't post bogus finds for your first ones or you are out of here.
  21. I'm with you ReadyOrNot. It was obvious these finds were posted for the humor factor. Pocket caches and such are logged to boost numbers. To me that seems more like lying. I don't think TPTB can continue with their position of not being log police because only they can lock out a account. Sure a cache owner can delete the log entry. Big deal. As moderator of a forum I can tell you having the power to suspend or lockout accounts is the only way to stop unacceptable behavior. Of course behavior has to be defined and it seems like they don't even want to take a stand on things like logging 30 finds in one event cache.
  22. For those who carry peperspray for bear a friend from Alaska once asked me if I knew how to tell the difference between Black Bear scat and Brown Bear scat. Black Bear is dark and has berries in it. Brown Bear has plaid cloth and smells like pepper. I have a little .32 Tomcat that is very convenient to carry. There have been sighting of cougar around here. I will start carrying my .45 even though I think the sightings are a combination of house cat and imagination. There have not been cougar in MI for over 100 years. Still better safe than sorry.
