  2. I used GIMP, opened the bmp, added alpha channel (needed for transparency), used the eraser to remove the magenta and saved the image as PNG. I had to look it up myself too, I'm sure the info how to do it in photoshop is somewhere to be found on the Internet. And remember to remove (or rename) the 000.bmp when you place the 000.png in the folder, the bmp has a higher priority and would get used when both bmp and png are present.
  3. Started yesterday to play around with custom symbols, but hated the ugly magenta. So today I had a quick look why the symbols no longer show transparency correctly. Well, the fix is quite easy, just use .png files with transparency. So instead of 000.bmp, use 000.png and so on. After I saw the PNG resources within the exe it was quite easy to figure out what happens ... sad that Garmin was not able to update the help/documentation about that subject

    empty pages?

No, a completely white page is the indicator that your session has been throttled for attempting to access too many pages in too short a time. This has nothing to do with site performance (other than keeping people from abusing it). 1. it's not a throttling as that would mean you would still get your page but only slower, it's more like a temporary ban 2. the 'thing' appears to me to be dynamic (not working all the time with the same parameters) 3. the situation I reported was not close to abusing, I was only using the site just normally, I mean after logging one cache it's absolutely normal to log the next one, isn't it? 4. why no error page to explain the problem? 1. That's how throttling works on geocaching.com. If you try to access too many pages too quickly, you are locked for a period of time. Just because it doesn't fit your particular definition doesn't alter what it is. 2. It may in fact have variable parameters to keep people from adjusting their screen scrapers to work "just under the radar". 3. Abuse is in the eye of the beholder. 1+2. It's useless against spiders because it's easy to add a delay. I you run a spider, does it matter if the thing finished in 1 or 2 hours? 3. If the system triggers when somebody is logging normally just like he did many times ago, then it's a bug. And it makes a paying customer unhappy!

Ooh, yeah? Why does the site not display an error message then if I was the cause?? << Please wait 5 seconds till you click next >>

    empty pages?

I noticed that case too myself, opening lots of tabs (mainly when firefox tries to restore after a crash), but this time that was definately not the case. I logged a find, logged my TB-companion out of that cache, closed the tab, and clicked 'log your visit' on the other tab. And sometimes a firefox restore does work without problems. Which makes me believe the white pages are meant to hide bad performance of the site. I wonder if I should keep my premium membership ... I have the feeling that it gets worse and worse. No point in finacially supporting any more. Maybe I should ask for a partial refund as they are not able to deliver the promised service?

What do empty/white pages mean? I was logging then suddenly I only get white/empty pages ... Is that the new way to hide the 'Our site performance is still crap' messages? [Right now it appears to be working again]
  9. vodav: I meant to ask if Groundspeak is running Exchange, wouldn't surprise me ... Just ran another query, maybe I have more luck with that one ... well, 2 target gmail, 3rd goes to my work email (private system) and the 4th to my ISP. Well, I wanted to have done my preparations by now!
  10. Waiting for my PQs ... Are you running Exchange as email server??
  11. Somehow it feels to me like this is the punishment for using MS ... at work we also have the most problems with MS servers. Do you guys have a complete test environment for testing such updates? Another tought: As today 21th is a public holiday in many countries, I tought that i might be a good idea for you to take those into consideration when choosing a day for the update.
  12. In Luxembourg only AS Adventure (Howald) comes into my mind.
  13. Fine... give us a few more PQs a day and all will be fine. Or the idea of previewing one in GE as mentioned above. or the built in gc google map having a full page view feature. Sorry, but I don't agree with this either. There's absolutely no reason that 5 PQs can't cover an area for the travel a normal person can do in one day...If you have 'regularly scheduled PQs' and you're traveling, turn off the 'regular' PQs and do the travel PQs. Don't just gripe about the system...work WITH it. KML was particularly useful *before* generating the PQs, because you were able to choose your route according to your findings. That's not possible with PQ, but you will have to use the inferior GM.
  14. Each of these can be done with GE and GPX files - especially the last one. It doesn't matter to them. They don't want to adapt, they just want it the way it was so they don't have to think...and no matter what we say, they don't want to listen. Maybe I have a understanding problem: You mean I could include my personal gpx files into the Groundspeak Googlemap as I get it from here http://www.geocaching.com/map/ You say I can read out GPS coordinates, height, and have 3d-views there? Did I overlook something there?? They mean that you are able to import a gpx file into GE and work with from there.
  15. It's clear that the number 200 has been chosen to downplay the importance of this removal. I'm one of them if our definitions of regular are the same (or close). However the removal does negatively impact my user experience! It's clear that every feature that you remove will improve site performance as those requests are simply not possible to do anymore. I fail to see how the kml impacts the site more than then map feature, if they do the same thing (but GE much faster and more userfriendly). Or is it because the javascript is slower to parse so users take more more time to change the map view compared to GE? How is this even possible as the GM feature fetches more data (finds and disabled)? Yes, I have: Make it as fast as GE, fullscreen as GE, give it the possibility to easily manage the items ... But you will never make a browser app nice userfriendly a an well written standalone app. As I'm using other options aswell, I can't see how I might be much happier when I get remembered so often that a previously working functionality is now missing and that I have to use a workaround to accomplish what once was easy to do. Importing a GPX into GE means working with potential outdated data at first, after some time with guaranteed outdated data. And GM does not offer all features of GE, but GE most of GM (only finds and disableds come into mind now). Getting GPX files is limited to PQs, which are limited aswell and sometimes take like forever to arrive.
  16. Currently there are 438 active caches in Luxembourg, covering all aspects seen for caches and featuring D/T from 1/1 to 5/5. It has been a long time since a cacher could say that he has found all active caches in Luxembourg
  17. Welcome Luxembourg to the official geocaching.com forums! Thanks for making this happen!
  18. I did click on a cache link (old cache) and I got the message that the cache is unpublished ... quite funny
  19. Et get do schons een externen Lëtzebuerger Forum, kuck mol op lgt.foren-city.de .......
  20. The shipping on International is figured based on past shippments of our coins. Paypals shopping cart will not let me break up the areas or do a address based shipping I have paid up to $14.00 to ship coin orders overseas in the past. Sorry! But there is the option to use international 'flat rate' for $5.25 which even includes the enveloppe ...
  21. And I always thought that smoking is quite expensive ... but geocoins about not smoking are aswell!!
  22. was about to order a set, but the $$ punishment for international shipments ($9.5) is far too high! OK, it costs a bit more, but this price increases the total cost over 20% compared to the price for US/Canada!!!
  23. Nice, a contest which is not over when I see it and actually I am able to participate Happy Easter to everyone!
