  1. I love this thread! I just picked up this 2006 Signal geocoin today. http://coord.info/TB17W5P He's disappeared several times - once for 3 years! Picked up by another cacher who dropped it nearby where it languished for 6 months... Until today!
  2. Always visit. That way it stays in your own inventory. If you log it as dropped, the next cacher will expect to see it in the cache.
  3. I do the same thing. In the description field I list the number of FTF (1st, 2nd... ) and details if it was shared. BTW, making the bookmark list public is considered tacky. Just for the record, my FTF list is private
  4. There are a number of ways.... I've heard about lists floating around. But my guess (based on other forum posts) is this person is trying random numbers until they guess correctly.
  5. I do the same thing. In the description field I list the number of FTF (1st, 2nd... ) and details if it was shared.
  6. I totally agree with this! Excellently worded! And let's not forget the stories of "missing" travelers reappearing! This forum thread "More Good News" is one of my favorites to follow!
  7. But why adopt them? I'm not sure how it effects the game. It's not like they need to be maintained like a cache.
  8. My Twitter name happens to be scrapcat also And I log all my finds via iPhone app - the Tweet appears almost immediatley Happy caching!
  9. Hi, On geocaching.com, click on the Your Profile drop-down menu. This will take you to Quick View. Scroll down - in the far right column, you will see "Share Your Geocaching Experience". Click the Facebook/Twitter link. You can set your preferences to link with any Twitter and/or Facebook account (whether the user names match or not). My finds post to my Twitter page. Hope this helps! Scrapcat
  10. Hi Exman, Can you clarify the reason behind the first part of the suggestion/question? I'm not sure what the difference is if the original TO (trackables owner) is active or not. Plus, I'm not sure if you could adopt something that someone else paid for originally. Thank you, Scrapcat
  11. There is a forum topic - http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=282332&st=0&p=5037872&hl=good%20news&fromsearch=1entry5037872 - about "more good news" where people post about "long-lost TBs" reappearing. I just picked up one that was "missing" for 3+ years and suddenly appeared last month out of the blue!
  12. P.s. Personal preference: I don't mind pages of "visit logs" as a cacher takes it place to place... it adds mileage, makes the journey more interesting, reassures me they haven't lost it, and makes me believe they will "drop it" with care. I will, GG, try to be more aware that other TO's might not enjoy that. I tend to do a lot of Visit logs until I find a good home for the traveller (though I NEVER keep one for more than 2 weeks).
  13. Here is an example of my ROT-13 coin. It visits every cache I visit so I can see where I've been on the map and how many miles I've travelled cache-to-cache: http://coord.info/TB49X79
  14. Hi, At Geocaching.com, select the Your Profile drop-down box. One of the links is Account Details. When you access the Account Details screen, you should see a box in the lower left that displays Your Preferences. Click the Edit button to change your time zone. Hope this helps.
  15. They already made travel bugs with QR codes http://www.cacheboxstore.com/the-code-travel-tag/
  16. I have something pretty cool to share. Just picked up this cutie http://coord.info/TB2HY9J today. Owner dropped it in a cache over 3 years ago - no logs/movement until LAST month! And now it has 10 additional logs! I love this forum topic - just released a trackables 2 days ago and a newbies grabbed it today (it was in his 2nd cache - I'm hoping he reads the tag on it). I broke my cardinal rule about sending something out I care about).
  17. Now, this interests me. Where do you get good deals on swag? Anyone? I've heard Oriental Trading Company but I can never seem to find anything of interest.
  18. I've had police officers, rangers, and local security question me, but all very reasonable. I try to keep myself out of sticky situations. There is one CO that tends to place caches in questionable locations so I avoid them. Bumps, scrapes, pickers, head bumps. Knock on wood - nothing major so far. On the bright side, I've gotten really non-challant about reaching into dark, icky places. Last week I didn't snap a pic first (my method to scope out dark places) and pulled out 5-15" snakes!
  19. I have a caching bag (pretty much the same items mentioned above). To keep my bag from getting too heavy, I also have a caching toolkit in my trunk (extra bags - garbage and sandwich, duct tape, electric tape, wires, pliers, fresh log sheets, extra gloves, first aid kit, bug spray, park maps). Hope this helps!
  20. I have a question on this topic. Why, when you look at your souvenirs, do the American ones have this generic icons (you must click in to see the pretty artwork) but the Canadians have the pretty icons on your profile page? Minor.... But it took me 10 months of caching to realize there was art hidden behind my Michigan souvenir.
  21. Lately I find that I tend to leave items and not take. However, I just found a really cool blue metal whistle on a key ring engraved with "Got Cache?" I contacted the giver and he sent a couple more for my nieces and nephews! The only item that made me mad (or, more likely, disappointed) was a bunch of blue pills in a cache outside a church. One thing I've noticed in these swag threads is all the talk about the quality of the swag, but nothing is more disappointing than opening a wet cache to discover everything inside ruined. Thank you CO's that hide containers with good seals and cachers who re-cap the caches properly!
  22. There are tons of places. My favorites are shop.geocaching.com and cacheboxstore.com
  23. I really wish there was an app for that. There's another $10
  24. I absolutely LOVE this answer! I was just scrolling through my gallery last night marveling at all the neat new places I've been!
