  1. Here's a cache in a very well-known cemetery (it's a virtual, but still...) if you are in DC, this is one you should visit. Arlington has drinking fountains, guided tours, bathrooms, and even a gift shop! When you take all that into consideration, how can you consider caching in a cemetary disrespectful? The Other Unknowns It's good to see the majority of the community appreciates cemetary caches and what they can bring to the sport. If you don't go in to find the cache, and refuse to do so because you think it's disrespectful, at the very least take a moment to walk around the cemetery your GPS has led you to. Fix any fallen flags, take a moment to brush dirt or grass off an old stone and remember those buried there.
  2. in my area of West Michigan there seems to be this imaginary line about 10 miles north of my home. Now, there are a handful of dedicated cachers who will regularly cross this line. The rest who live about 10 miles North of the line, rarely...if ever cross it to cache. I've been saying for months I'm gonna hide more caches North of that line so I can have one with some more logs, everytime I go to hide one, I find a sweet, out of the way spot waaayyyy south of the line. Needless to say, I end up hiding it in the sweet spot south of the line. None of the caches I've placed (not counting the adopted ones) have more than 30 visits because 90% of the cachers refuse to cross the imaginary line and stick just to ones that get put in their area. So I'm left with visits just from the dedicated. I've learned to accept it, my caches get fewer visitors. If I were to place more to the North I'd get more logs, but because the best spots up there are taken I'd have to deal with lesser locations. In the end, I'm happier since my caches are better quality in the less-visited areas. I regularly check on all of these caches, some have gone for months without a find, I don't want my caches archived for not being visited. It's not my fault some people are too lazy or stubborn to drive or walk a ways for a cache, I've worked hard on these caches and I did so knowing they'd go with less visits but I did so knowing that those who did visit would appreicate it, I know there will be more visits to those caches, the finds may be few and far between, but they will be found again. Just gotta give people time and maybe the caches being on their lists unfound and in PQs will eventually annoy them to the point they finally come down to visit.
  3. luckily I just got back from a trip and it's still fresh in my mind so I can remember, I have cached in: Michigan, Indiana, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia and The District of Columbia I visited plenty of other states before I started caching and on this most recent trip passed through 2 others on the way that I did not cache in. I don't keep a map because I honestly don't care what states others have cached in and if someone is really that nosy about where I've been they can just look at my finds list.
  4. Monster Mania I placed this one to tell about sightings of a bigfoot-like creature that was seen near where I live. I'm thinking of combining my haunted caches and this one into a series H&LL (Haunts and Local Legends) Series. If you are interested in bigfoot, also check this cache out that I recently found: The Mothman Returns! I have The Legend of Boggy Creek on DVD, I hope to visit the Fouke area one of these days.
  5. I own 2, both were placed with the upmost respect in mind. This one: The Ghosts of Frost is one of my favorite placements and has become my most-watched cache. It's the creepiest cemetery I know of, I have yet to come across one like this. The cache is hanging from the fence surrounding the cemetery. My other cemetery cache: Morris Murder Mystery Gives you info on some local history. The cache is hidden in the back of the cemetery where there are NO graves. Everyone so far has seemed to enjoy it. I know feelings are mixed on them, but I personally love them, it may seem morbid but cemteries are full of history, take some time to explore an older one and you can learn a lot, the placements above were to bring someone to the neat cemetery, NOT for the hide itself. I did 2 of the Indiana spirit quest caches today, the first ones I've ever done, and I have to say the ISQ members do a very good job on making the caches educational, and hiding them respectfully. I would be very dissapointed if cemetery caches were gone.
  6. yup, I have a letterbox hybrid and it is listed both on gc.com and letterboxing.org I put a link on the cache page to the letterboxing.org listing. This cache looks like it'll get more traffic as a result of being a hybrid. I visited it today and at least 2 "pure" letterboxers have visited it already in addition with some of the locals.
  7. The audit logs is really helpful on Premium caches. I had no idea that many people were viewing cache pages until I put out this cache: The Ghosts of Frost I saw names of people I'd never ever heard of viewing the page. I was really surprised when I saw how many people were watching it. I have no idea why there are so many watching this, some of my puzzles have only 3 or 4 people watching them. My only guess is the area where I put this easy little traditional decon is much more well-known than I originally thought.
  8. I was gonna mention Cold War Relic which I moved but someone already posted it. That was a cool bug, I had to get rid of quick because when I showed it to a friend he wanted to open it to taste the candy! If you come across a large bug like the ones above, take it to a bug hotel in another cacher's yard and drop it on their doorstep, lots of fun, and your fellow cacher gets a nice, big surprise when they open their door. Just don't let me them catch you putting it there!
  9. my two most well-recieved caches so far are these two puzzles: Alien Alphabet Alien Alphabet 2: Morbo's Revenge These puzzles turned out EXACTLY the way I had planned in my mind and I'm very pleased with them. Everyone that has completed them has had a lot of fun. I even had people emailing me from other states telling me how much they enjoyed working on the puzzles even if they never get to do the caches. I'm not even sure how many people figured out where I got the languages from. I'm hoping for more seasons with more languages so I can do a third sequel. Then I've got this cache which isn't so much a puzzle, but a trick. As you can see from the logs, those who get it enjoyed it, and those who didn't well...they haven't gone out to find it yet if they have figured it out. Fake-Out My last puzzle cache is just simple cipher one, nothing really special here. Monster Mania They aren't as common in my area as I would like, a few I haven't gotten around to yet, a few I have solved but haven't gotten to them or couldn't find them. I think they are the most rewarding when found though.
  10. if you are going after caches only for the swag contained within, this may not be the hobby for you. I've never been a trader, I've only made a single trade that was not a sig or TB swap. It's the locations that are rewarding for me. Go out, just enjoy the hunt and don't expect good stuff. Every once in a while I'll open a larger cache and be surprised with nice stuff in it. But if you go out just hoping to find cool stuff, well....no offense, but you are kinda missing the point of the hobby altogether.
  11. I always return to the cache page and select nearest to the last one I logged. I don't use the GC numbers I put the name on my GPS or as much as will fit there.
  12. lol I know that cache, it's helpful in understanding the name but not in finding the cache. I was out with my mom when I found that one and by sheer luck she spotted it. Here's a better hint for you on that one vree, "look up" I've actually stolen the concept of that cache for stages of my multi.
  13. I carry next to nothing, camera, gps, cellphone, sig cards, any bugs I might have that I want to drop and that's about it. In winter I'll carry a small fanny pack with some knives, a zip saw and some extra gloves but that's about it. I always forget a pen, more than once I've had to run back to the truck and dig through the seats to find a writing utensil.
  14. doesn't matter, chances are I won't get a hold of one until well after the contest is over, they were always snatched up before I could even get close with the White Jeeps.
  15. great now that you've said that, some numbers hound is gonna claim hundreds of multiple finds on an archived cache for all the homes they visited back on October 31st, 1975
  16. The only decent clear containers out there are Lock N Locks in my opinion. Gladware, tupperware, etc they all get full of water and moldy about 80% of the time in my experience. I have yet to come across a wet Lock N Lock, and there are many different shapes and sizes of Lock n Locks which means if you find a spot to hide a cache, you can likely find a lock and lock that will fit in there perfectly. They've really been growing in popularity in my area recently.
  17. I've done 4 or 5 I think. As long as I can see the cache from my vehicle as I pull up I don't have a problem. All the ones I've found have been very well done.
  18. I use screw-in tree stand steps while deer hunting, call out the army and the navy. The trees I first used them on 2 years ago my drop dead from the wounds at any minute. Mellow out people, in most areas this isn't going to have too much effect on the tree. One park where I've got a few caches has trees that have dates as far back as the 1940's carved into them. Guess what? The trees are just fine today. While we are at it, we have to find a way to stop all lightning. dadgum that lightning, hitting thousands, perhaps millions of trees each year, how dare mother nature!
  19. well, that's it, can't top that like it or not that is the answer.
  20. ok so out of curiosity, I tried this, and indeed it works, it only took me 10 min to do. While cool, I don't see it lasting very long either. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...23-4a95cd8359c2
  21. at first I didn't believe what you were posting, but now I see the links, interesting.....however, I wonder if this loophole will be closed quickly now that you've made posted it here. I had never heard of this before today, while interesting, and it might be cool to have custom icons for a few of my caches, something like this might really clutter up cache listings and cause caches with default icons to be ignorned by the icon collectors.
  22. nah that's not a nano, I was thinking more like a fake grain of sand at a beach Or a fake speck of dust or heck, a fake atom! hmmm I dunno, a 3/1.5 sound about right for these? lol
  23. I love a good cemetery cache, my most recent hide is one in a cemetery with an old, sealed up church. I'd never planned on hiding one in a cemetery but the location was too interesting to pass up, especially since the grounds are haunted. It's a decon simply because it was the only ready to go container I had when I found the location. I've been considering a new hide in a small cemetery close to home that had a cache, but the owner archived it due to a lack of interest, but the location is the burial place of a couple that was murdered nearby in the 1800's and it is still unsolved. I was thinking of making an easy puzzle and putting a bunch of info on the murders to make it more interesting. If respectfully done, they have defintely have their place.

I really wanna see a 5 star in our area that isn't one just because a boat is required. There are some 3/3's and up that I'm now saving for fall and winter so I can avoid the crowds of hikers, bikers and families in those areas. Just for fun I did a query on my hides and here is the interesting info on them, keep in mind 3 of these are adopted and 1 is archived out of 16 hides Avg. Difficulty = 2.33 Avg. Terrain = 1.90 Avg. 25. yup, I had a guy come through and find like 5 of my caches last week. Guy is still a relative newbie 65 finds or something like that and EVERY single log was simply: tftc that's it, didn't even bother with TNLN or SL, just TFTC. That was a real letdown after seeing the 5 found it notifications since a lot of my caches don't get hit too often. I never copy and paste, I try to write a little bit about even the most mundane of hides. It's insulting for me when someone finds one of the caches that I've spent a large amount of time on and all I get is a simple one line cut and paste log.
