  1. now that is freaking awesome! I love it! I like looking for shed antlers and it's amazing how hard it is to spot those things.
  2. I've done probably 2 or 3 caches near abandoned buildings. Last one I did was just a few weeks ago in Michigan's UP: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...d5-57f5d60c3d8a I've wanted to place one in an abandoned building for some time, but I can't find one on public property close to home that isn't just a foundation. I would ask permission, but when there's just a farmhouse on a small hill next to a field with no houses for a few hundred yards there's no way of telling who the owner is.
  3. twice I've worked in grocery stores and I've discovered that 90% of the general population are idiots who never bother to read signs so I'm really not surprised by that one I once put an out of order sign on a bottle return machine and I had someone lift up the sign that was over the hole for the bottles so they could use it. Then they proceeded to ask me what was wrong with it
  4. My first batch of bugs were all released in May 2006. My most successful one has been Tired Tire it's racked up 7951.6mi and is not too far from home at the moment. The one that I feel has had the coolest adventures I have no idea where it is at the moment: Galloping Goul
  5. That was probably the biggest one I've found too... What's the waypoint of that one? How does it work? ditto, I'm just wondering where you would place that so that a passing muggle doesn't say: "hey, there's an ATM, finally! Hey what's the deal there? What a sick joke, a fake ATM?!"
  6. On a side note; If you decide to play with match containers again, you can get rubber O-rings at your local hardware store that will cure the wet log problems. BTW, Ditto on the way kewl paint jobs! One thing I heard from one of the locals here was to drill a small hole in the bottom of the matchstick container. I haven't tried this personally though. thanks for the comments on my camo btw, I painted those cans at least 4 or 5 times before I was finally happy with the result. There's a lot of paint caked on those cans, I suppose if any of that paint starts chipping there'll be another pattern underneath to replace it lol
  7. pics are good, but you have to see Big Boy in person to truely appreciate it. Heck you could put an APE cache in Big Boy for swag! When I did Big Boy I forgot all about the film can PS: reptlcal, thanks for the link to the 120MM Mortar can, I've been looking all over for one of those and was just figuring I'd have to turn for the internet for one.
  8. ammo cans and Lock n Locks for me I used to really like matchstick containers, my opinion of them has gone downhill in recent months as I'm finding more and more of mine are wet. I'm doing less and less micros nowdays anyway because I want big logbooks in my caches people can actually write something in.
  9. I visited all the sights and many of the Virtuals around DC last summer. The only time I was searched was when we went into the museums. We walked past quite a few heavily armed police and secret service agents as well but never had a problem. Heck I took this picture of this guy at the capitol, no one ever said anything, they must have been bored the day you went. Or maybe the fact it was 98 degrees out when I went and it was too much work to interrogate people when they could just sniper em from the White House roof if they acted too suspicious..
  10. I've got one (ammocan) under a log in the middle of a small creek, only had 3 finders thus far, those that did find it loved it though and one of the cachers took my idea and used it again in one I found yesterday. Didn't have to get my feet wet luckily. It was bone dry inside.
  11. 5 stars for climbing a pine tree? Climbing Mt McKinley maybe, but not a pine tree. My tree cache is rated 3 stars for terrain and so is the one owned by another local cacher. Tree spikes or climbing ropes sure seems like "special equipment" to me, just as the "smiley value" for a cache on top of Everest is exactly the same as a cache hidden underneath a lamp post cover he never said tree spikes or climbing rope were needed. I have one about 15 ft up a half-dead tree that's rated a 4 because of a short hike to it in addition to the climb I didn't use any special equipment to place it, just climbed right up! It is clearly labeled with a dangerous area icon and warning. I've had 2 or 3 cachers who got to it, saw the cache and declined to climb.
  12. ugh! I finally got Big Boy today but somehow totally forgot about Just another Film Canister. Hopefully I'll get another chance to go up to that area soon.
  13. gh, I'll have to drive up one of these days to take on Death Defying, looks like fun! I don't know if any of mine are being ignored.
  14. Stuff like this is why I take my time to read through cache listings of the area I'll be visiting before I load anything. Photos and comments on cache pages can tell a lot about if a cache is worth it or not. Does this take more time than simply loading every cache in the area you are visiting? Yes... Does it cut down the number of caches you'll find in an area you don't typically visit? yes again... I'd rather find a dozen great caches and avoid the 50 bad ones altogether than take a chance and just hope I get led to a good area. I only do this when I'm going on a long trip out of my home area. If I'm gonna spend time on a trip far from home caching I only wanna do good caches.
  15. 2000 Chevy S-10, 84,600 miles on it. Dented bumper from backing into a friend's car in the driveway, need to take it in and have it worked on, the airbag and SES light have been on for some time. It's also a travel bug: http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=503822
  16. they should get all the neighbors involved in this, few doors down you've got a huge matchstick container, end of the street a giant decon, when you first turn down the street the world's biggest Lock N Lock lol I may take a detour when I head up North weekend after next to get these two. I've been meaning to come up and hit Big Boy for some time now.
  17. the only wet decon I saw was one that rodents had chewed through the lid. I think I've got 4 or 5 out and I've never had a problem with any of them, can't remember if they had gaskets or not.
  18. People are still doing stuff like this? If you feel the need to log 100 times for all the temp caches you found at an event you are missing the point of this sport completely in my opinion. Whatever, have fun looking for cache #whatevernumber and I'll have fun finding and exploring new places I've never been to before.
  19. I WILL!!! Me too! I laughed when a baby garter bit me
  20. I've had people post photos of the container before, but they weren't hides that were meant to be especially difficult so I didn't mind. Personally I love it when someone uploads photos to the cache page, it just shows they truely did enjoy your hide because they took the extra time to take photos and then share them with the world on the cache page.
  21. I never understood the whole stats and visited states, etc on your profile page thing either, if you really wanna know the person's stats click on the geocaches tab. Then again, I don't really care about my stats, pretty much only reason I log online is to keep track of which ones I've already found.
  22. count me as one. Ironically while hunting a cache named "Snake in the Grass" it was just a garter snake, I don't know what that snake's problem was, I just wanted to pick it up for a little while
  23. lol I noticed that cattle one when submitting a few caches, all I could think was what's up with that? I have yet to see a cache where one has to dodge livestock
  24. Neat! I will be in the Kalamazoo and No. MI area for a week in a month or so with a friend, and we may just have to drop by and find this one! Although... these darn nanos are hard to find! let me know if you want any reccomendations for the Kzoo area of caches to visit, if you get a chance there's a lot of good stuff south of Kalamazoo as well.
