  1. M2 you did a great job on the PHOTO site , looking forward to following it. Some day may even get a camera to post some pictures. Really a neat site, you out did yourself. Thanks for the comments The first photos for the 19 Nov 2006 version of the San Diego Cache Event Team are posted! The unoffical title of the event was "Jeeps just want to have fun". Beta testers, start your engines!
  2. Be looking for that little yellow Jeep! I just mentioned last week that I really wanted to do this trail. Thanks for the get-together! See you at 9:00 at the Blockbuster. Robyn & Kathy of Team Reid Count me in! I'll be at the rendezvous and probably join you for breakfast. I'll have an extra seat if anyone wants to ride shotgun (Acill? I also use a Legend C). I'm working on a "if you build it, they will come" type of project . I'm converting the temporary Geo Ocotillo campout photo site I put up into a freebie San Diego Cache Event photo gallery. Takes lots of photos and be a beta tester! http://sdgeocachers.eveningavionics.com
  3. Bummer. Doesn't sound like anyone can go Saturday.. J&J mentioned Sunday as a posibility. We might be open for the 19th. I will have to check to see what is going on. M2 - Can you make it on the Sunday the 19th? TA 51% chance and looking better. I'm negotiating now ...
  4. I haven't logged any in the loop yet (just got 4WD) but can't make it on the 18th. If the the date changes, count me in and I can take one passenger who doesn't scream a lot (just got 4WD ).
  5. I like the size and sound clarity of the Cobra PR 250 WX (~$40/pair w/charger). It has a headphone jack (handy for those of us who have "CHS" ), a key lock feature to keep the channel from changing in in your pocket, and weather broadcasts that I can pick up in ABDSP. It comes with a NiCD battery pack or it will take 3 AAA batteries. As Chuy said, I would have preferred that it use AA batteries so I could carry only that type for backup with the GPS. If you haven't mailed it, drop some AAA batteries in the one of mine you have and test it out on your next run. By the way, is there a "geocacher's channel" on FRS? I've been using 3-01 but I can't remember why (I also have "CRS" ) . M2
  6. I never log a cache twice as a find. If a cache has moved and I go back and find it in its new place, I log it as a note. Others see nothing wrong with logging it as a new find. There is a reasonable argument to be made for either position. As far as I'm concerned, this is one of those cases where you can decide for yourself what rules you want to play by. The date feature tells me that I need to get out more on Wednesdays! "Based on your overall rate of 0.08 finds per day, you'll find number 200 around 12/21/08 and the big 1000 around 5/08/36." Watch for me -- I'll try to log my 1K via Ouija Board
  7. Don't run your query from Tomb Raider. It will give you caches near SDSU. Mudcaves Peanut Gallery (GCHQZ5) is close to where it actually is though. Thanks for that reminder. I forgot it was a puzzle. Keep your eyes posted for the little yellow Jeep! It's a probable, and I'll post if I can't make it. 8:30 at the Lake Jennings P&R. See you all then! Robyn Thanks Robyn! Glad you are joining us! It would be nice for anyone that is coming with us to do Tomb Raider and many others to let us know on this thread! If you don't tell us, then we'll take off once everyone that we know of shows up at the Lake Jennings P&R tomorrow at 8:30AM. If you somehow miss us then you can meet us at the Mudcaves Peanut Gallery at around 9:30AM. I know that Chuy! is meeting us there. Look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow! I'm going out that way tomorrow (11/4) to explore the mud caves in Arroyo Tapiado with a friend and may do a little caching on the side. We're leaving SD at around 0700 so we'll probably be somewhere in between the groups and may meet you at the Peanut Gallery at 0930. I've logged Tomb Raider (FTF ) but I may join you just for the fun of it. I'll be driving a silver Tacoma with a shell. See you there! M2 and muggle
  8. Paul and I were talking about maybe going to the Mud Caves on 11/4 for the day. I guess there is a pretty cool cache in that area! I'm thinking of heading to that area on 11/4 myself to camp out that night. I'll watch the thread and zero in on the plan. Honda Pilot made it in 2WD earlier this year with no problems. M2
  9. Everything you wanted to know (and more) about using the WAAS feature on a Garmin can be found in this great article: http://www.gpsinformation.org/dale/dgps.htm#waas Note the section on loading the almanac into your GPSr. Lots of good info and easy to understand.
  10. Our names are Michael and Marlene, so M2 was an easy pick for a geocaching name -- although not nearly as creative as some I've read about in this thread! Thanks for all the stories -- I've always wondered about some of the names.
