  1. Michael, You've been a prince by supporting the site for such a long time. I would step in but for nine grandchildren and my sweet ex-nun bride. I've seen some images of late showing your recent activities you rascal you. Live it up pal, Harmon SD Rowdies Are you referring to my awesome Utilikilt Harmon?
  2. A few years back I put up a web site for SD Cache Event Team photos. I've had a lot of fun with it, but it doesn't see much use of late and it is time to retire it gracefully. I know Harmon uses it a lot, but Facebook has evolved as the more common way to share photos and comments about our favorite outdoor activity. If there are photos on the SDGeocachers web site you want to keep, just download them by right-clicking on them and choosing 'save image'. I will be archiving the site contents, so if you have a large number of photos you'd like to preserve, please contact me and we can work something out. Harmon: I've got your back, ol' bud The web site will 'go dark' on 15 Nov 2012. I've had a lot of fun with the site and I hope it has been useful for the Cache Event Teams over the years. I don't geocache much any more, but I'll always treasure my "first to find" on the DAK Girls' TOMB RAIDER cache. That was a tough puzzle cache and a great adventure! I still get out exploring the San Diego (and AZ, NV, and UT) back-country quite a bit. I hope to run into some old geocaching pals on the road! M2 (aka Michael)
  3. (Multiple thread posting) *** Volunteers Needed **** I was contacted via SD Geocachers by a Boy Scout leader named John asking for some volunteers. John is looking for someone to do some training on geocaching at two different Boy Scout events. One event is on Saturday, May 8th at a training meeting from 10 a.m to noon. The second event is at a leader's meeting on Thursday, May 27th at 7 p.m. in the east county. If you're interested, contact me and I'll put you in touch with John.

  8. I received this email via the SDGeocachers photo gallery (www.sdgeocachers.org). Does it sound familiar to anyone? ********* I just returned from snorkeling at La Jolla Cove, where I had found a 1 1/2" PVC Geocache waterproof test in about 15' of water, to the west of the swim buoys, between the edge of kelp bed and rocks. The words "GEOCACHE", "UNSCREW HERE", and "OPEN ABOVE WATER" in black sharpie. Silly me, I took it home and opened it, only to find a napkin with the words "GEOCACHE WATER-PROOF TEST" and a Jeppsen US(LO) Aero chart, 9 and 10 (near Las Vegas) and a zinc finish nail. If you know who set it there, let them know it was dry, and it's at my house if they want it back. Or if you want to forward this email to any Geocahe lists or friends please feel free. At this point in time, I don't plan to bring it back or put it back... as there weren't any instructions on the outside of the PVC that said something to the effect ... 'please leave here' ... or even a contact number on the inside... so if someone in your .org wants it back or wanted to know the results... *********** I have the name, email address, and phone number of the diver who found it if you'd like to contact them for more details. Email me at M2@sdgeocachers.org. Looks like our past time is moving offshore! M2
  9. IMHO, doing the entire route in one day would be a real challenge and you'd miss a lot of the interesting sights along the trail. If you only have one day, I'd consider picking a segment of the trail and catching the rest another time. While the trail isn't too difficult, it is definitely a slow pace in most sections. If you do the entire Mojave Road at a nice pace, the trip would take you about 2.5 days, starting at I-15 at Afton Canyon, crossing Soda Lake, and ending up near Laughlin on U.S. 95. The last section between U.S. 95 and the Colorado River is mainly just farm roads and not very interesting. If you're interested, I have Dennis Casebier's Mojave Road Guide, maps of the preserve, and a GPS track of the route taken with Team Adelos about 15 months ago. You'll need a good map as there are often other roads/trails near the original Mojave Road and it is easy to get side-tracked. A great trip with a lot of history to see! I'm thinking of doing it again myself in October or November.
  10. We return you now to the dedicated thread for San Diego County Cache Critters!
  11. Owooooo! Must...maintain...control...off topic...can't resist...<gasp> OMG! I've been had big-time ... once again by that rascal M2. The odd part is that I considered using the paper-bag hat in my response to Barrie's post 'cause that gal can sure bake a PUD cake! Last chance I saw you, M2, that PUD cake was being served up on Otay Mountain. I should have pushed you off of that mountain when I had a chance. O.k., I admit it, I've met my match Photoshop-wise. Well done. "Raised by wolves" huh? Why I oughta .... It's nice t' be noticed, Harmon SD Rowdies I am not worthy! My inspiration comes from the master You'll note that I omitted the famous Harmon Nasal Finger Effect in order not to spoil anyone's appetite for that classic Otay Mountain PUD cake. I made a small change to the original image that I overlooked last night. Here is the revised image in case, you know, you wanted to frame it or something.

  13. I don't know what your budget is, but a SPOT Messenger might add some safety on treks to the really tough caches. I've had mine for about a year now and it has provided some comfort for the family when I go after the remote caches in the backcountry (and get behind schedule trying to avoid a DNF!). Check out the SPOT homepage for a description.

  17. It breaks my heart to see such devotion his people have for him. There's an old Navy saying that goes "Excuse me, I have to go because I'm their leader and they just left". The troops probably couldn' t go on leave until the boss left ....
  18. Mario, a geocacher from North Carolina, is visiting in Temecula during the holidays and contacted me via the SDGeocachers Photo Gallery. He is asking if anyone in Temecula can him identify some of the better caches to drop off some TBs he carried out here from his friends in NC. His note is below. Anybody in the Temecula area interested? You can contact Mario via GC.com or email me for his regular email address. I don't want to put it here and expose it to spammers mad.gif Happy Holidays to the San Diego Geocachers! ==================== Heya, M2! I'm fairly new to the geocaching hobby and visiting family in Temecula. I came out from Raleigh, North Carolina and when the crew there heard I was headed this way, I got loaded down with 6 travel bugs to distribute in this area. Now, I can find a few easy ones around here and drop 'em off, but I thought it'd be fun to meet a local geocacher and get their opinion as to where the best drop-offs might be (based on the travel bugs' individual goals). I found the sdgeocachers.org website but could only find your contact info, so... here I am. smile.gif Do you happen to know any friendly geocachers in Temecula who might still be around for the holidays and would have some extra time to chat on the phone or meet up? Thanks for your time! Mario (Groundspeak username: yayac) =====================

  20. From the looks of the nail-head pattern in your new shower, I think your nail gun is shooting high and a bit to the right. If you didn't use a nail gun, then maybe you'd better lay off the moonshine while working... What the heck... if one nail is good, then a lot have to be better, right? Just in case, you know, we have a tornado in San Diego or something. Drywall screws installed with a slingshot if y' must know. Well, that explains it then. That one cluster of screws just to the right of center in the photo still has me curious though.... perhaps you were distracted while thinking about how to use PhotoShop CS3's new tools in your next Spashette tribute? Harmon's mind at work ...

  23. Harmon, do you want this one or shall I take it?
  24. Hey! ... 'smatte' with these legs? To be honest I didn't know my archive-gallery went back that far. Still you must admit that it's a no-pants shot ... taken by Splashette by the way. Note to Self: Stop giving them chances for Jaws edits. Nothing like aged beef ...
  25. See everyone in the morning! I'm a little late posting, but I'll be there and the co-pilot's seat on the Silver Taco is open. I'll meet up with you all at the 0730 coordinates.
