  1. I am disappointed in the new maps. I use them quite often. There has to be a better solution. These new maps are very slow and the detail is now that good. Supply and demand, this new map system just can't handle the demand. Groundspeak needs to better evaluate the map sources before using it. At this level of business you should have caught this problem before releasing it in my opinion. Please work on finding a fix for the present map system or find another system that can handle the demand that we can use with improved speed and accuracy.
  2. Wow, I didn't realize people would keep them that long. I figured if I couldn't help the trackable in a week or so then I don't need to pick it up. I'm new and still learning, but having a trackable for a month is normal? I could understand a week or two. Travel takes time, especially if you want to soak in the spice of life and scenery. I plan on releasing a Travel Bug in the near future. It will be my first. I would like it to make it to Death Valley California from my home in Kentucky. Some family in Death Valley introduced Geocaching to my wife, daughter, and I back in June. I will probably still stick to my first thoughts and move trackable's within a few weeks for my personal caching habits. I will need to think about that time line though for my trackable's I release. Patience is a virtue I suspect.
  3. Awesome! Thank's for the info. I didn't know about the grab feature.
  4. My wife, daughter, and I were caching last weekend and came across a Geocoin. We looked at the coins mission and it's owner wants it to travel to all 50 states. I thought hey cool. I can move my first Geocoin. So we picked it up and logged the coin as picked up on Geocaching.com. I was going to take it and place it in another state where I work, but came to find out when I got home and went online that the coin had already been to that state. Ok, here's my question. My wife will be headed to another state that the coin has not been, but I logged online I picked it up. Is there a way to transfer the Geocoin to her so she can drop it? Second, What is a is an excitable time line? I had planned on moving this coin within a few days. I have now had it for 5 days and it will be 3 more days until my wife can drop it in another state. I did send a message to the Geocoin owner explaining the above info, but got no response. I've even thought of putting it in another cache locally so it keeps moving, but it really wouldn't move it on down the line to meet it goal. If I'm the 15,000,000 person to ask this question sorry. Could you steer me to the right topic and I can read it there.
  5. On my 60CSx is there a way to view the cache description?
  6. What do you mean by "artificial" limit? Can the internal memory take more?
  7. Yes she is a keeper! I've heard of the "hidden file" deal before. I am not a computer expert by any means, but it would make sense that a device based on one system would not get along with anyone systems files. I saw another topic named "Crazy Garmin map installs for Macintosh " discussing the same problems I've been having with my 60CSx. Hoping that this information will help with my 60CSx lock-up and unresponsive shut downs with a long beep tone that can only be resolved by removing the batteries. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=250582&st=0&p=4846771&fromsearch=1entry4846771 As for the Mac comment, yes, I insist. LOL.
  8. I have been having the same problem with my 60CSx. I'm hoping this will fix my lock-ups and endless beep when shutting down, which will kill the battery and be unresponsive until removing the batteries. Thanks for the information. I will give it a shot.
  9. Yes I did, and it did install properly. I use Safari as my browser and it worked fine.
  10. Thanks Bear and Ragged. I did find the GPS unit in my program and was able to successfully up load my pocket query. Wintertime, I'm using OS 10.7.1 Lion. I imported my pocket query that I got from Geocaching.com for Puerto Rico, where I'm visiting for work, to the BaseCamp program then sent to the GPS. It worked, but not sure if that is the right way to do it. Right now I'm kinda rolling on the seat of my pants, so take that with a grain of salt until someone with better knowledge confirms that. robertlipe, SD Card info helped a lot. Got me in the right direction. I read that the GPSmap60CSx stores 1000 caches on the internal memory. So what is the SD Card for? Does it just store your maps? TOPO USA, Europe, Asia, etc or are there other things it can be used for? The individual that my wife bought this GPS from sent two SD Cards with the unit. One 2 GB card and one 4 GB card. I see "gmapsupp.img" files on each SD card. Any idea what these might be? What is the "USB Mass Storage" in Setup; Interface for? When I select that only the SD Card shows you in the program. Only other weird thing going on with the GPS when either SD Card is installed when I go to turn the GPS off it freezes up. Unreponsive and makes a continous tone. Only way to get it to respond is to remove batteries. Any thoughts on that? I was very excited to actually use the GPS today here in Puerto Rico to find GC2425A / Jardin Urbano Isla Verde. It worked as advertised. On this model GPS should I be able to get the cache description on the GPS in the waypoint information? Thank you for the education, I'm starting to understand.
  11. I can't get the GPS itself to show up on the computer. The SD card in the GPS shows up, but not the device itself. Should I be storing the waypoints on the SD card? If so, How do I get the GPS to show them? Everytime I try to pull the geocache way points up on the GPS it doesn't show any of them. I've tried loading to the SD Card, but still the same. I did download the Garmin Communication Plugin, but honestly don't haven't a clue what is supposed to use it with. I also downloaded MacCaching. Every time I try to upload anything to GPS there is some type of error. Yes, I am "GPS Challenged", but I want to learn it. Are there any online tutorial?
  12. My lovely wife bought me a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx for my birthday. She bought it used. I'm learning, but I have no clue how to set it up. I have a Apple MacBook Pro. I downloaded the Garmin BaseMap program and tried loading caches on the GPS but can't get it to load. Software on GPS is up to date, version 4.00. Could you steer me in the right direction to learn how to set this up and about programs for Apple OS ? Garmin GPSmap60CSx Software: 4.00 SD Card: 4 GB Computer: Apple MacBook Pro
  13. That is very good idea.Hints are to tempting though. At the beginning I had a hard time not looking at them. I don't use them much now though. I am planning my first cache. I will keep that in mind for my hides. It makes sense.
  14. Thank you for the info. I will keep that in mind for my future finds.
  15. I just started Geocaching in June. I have a few questions. When you find a cach that's log book is full do you the cacher replace it or is that the owner of the caches responsibility? Would you log it as needing maintenance? I figure having an extra new log in the car wouldn't be a bad idea, but what do you do with the old log? We found a cach the other day laying on the ground with the container lid open. We logged the find and placed it where we thought it came from. I emailed the owner telling them where I exactly put it. Is that what we should done in the future? Thanks for the info.
