  1. Are you aware of the fact that (unless you've changed the defaults) after the car stops, it takes a full 90 seconds for the electronic compass to automatically turn back on? Yes I'm aware of that. See my reply above where I say "Yes, the compass is on, and the vehicle is stopped for minutes at a time, so I know it's not the setting for that, even though I have it set to use the magnetic compass when under 5 mph for more than 5 seconds.
  2. Of course I know you need to hold the unit level for the compass to work. That's not the issue. The issue is that after the unit is held vertically for a period of time, the compass then won't work when holding it level. I'm not trying to hold the thing vertically and use the compass. I'm pulling it out of the cradle, holding it level, and the compass is locked up and won't work right.
  3. I don't get it. You are supposed to hold the unit vertically for the gps, and then flat for the compass. So if holding it vertically can hose the compass, isn't that an issue that should be fixed? I hold the unit vertically 95% of the time, but when I need the compass I want the dang thing to work. This is annoying as heck, and I'm seriously considering a lowrance due to this issue. I emailed garmin as well. I think if we all voice our displeasure on this, perhaps we can get a fix.
  4. I too have noticed compass issues after taking the gps out of the cradle. I've been trying to do sight n go's, but the compass locks, and it won't rotate to the proper direction. The only thing I've found that will fix the problem is to do a recalibration. A real PITA if you ask me. Yes, the compass is on, and the vehicle is stopped for minutes at a time, so I know it's not the setting for that, even though I have it set to use the magnetic compass when under 5 mph for more than 5 seconds.
  5. Anyone else notice that on the 60 CSX as compared to the 60 CS it doesn't give you as much time to react at normal drivng speeds to the last turn notification? I find it quite annoying. I sent an email to Garmin 10 days ago asking about it but haven't received a reply.
  6. Loaded up various maps totally 477 MB onto my 512 MB card. There are 1169 maps total involved, including City Select 7, Blucharts 6.5, Topo West, and R&R. I pushed it to the card in my card reader, and then stuck the card in the unit. Everything seems to be working fine until I go to the Setup Map menu, and select the icon where you pick which maps you want to display. Doing so fades the screen blank, and then the unit shuts off. A restart brings it back, where you can repeat the process all over again. In short, you can't select which maps to display because the unit shuts off when going into that screen.
  7. Here is my scenario. I have two gps map 60c's, both loaded with Bluechart Ver 6.0 I also have Bluechart V6.5 (free upgrade) and city select V5 loaded onto one of the units, but not both. I am contemplating purchasing two new 60cs's. If I do that, am I correct in thinking that I will be able to load Bluechart V6.5 and City select V5 onto one of the units, since they have only been loaded on one other unit? Also, I am considering buying the upgrade to V7 for City Select. If I do that, can I load it onto the two new 60cs's? I would assume so, but want to make sure, since the original city select V5 was loaded onto one of the 60c's. Thanks.
  8. I think you mean "Not so soon to be released" color PhD. Lowrance told me on the phone yesterday MAYBE by Feb. or March.
  9. I use mapcreate 6.2 and have none of the issues you are referring to. As a matter of fact, I don't even have a card reader, per se. I just put the chip in my digital camera, connect it with usb, and presto, instant card reader. Works great.
  10. I have owned a Sportrak Pro and Meridian Platinum for a year and a half now, and just recently purchased a 60c. My best analogy would be to compare the Magellans to Fords, and the Garmin unit to a Cadillac. The Magellan is dependable and serviceable, as is the Garmin, but the Garmin really does it in style. Just seems like a much more refined unit to me. Rod
  11. If so, is it practical to use on a small screen like the 60c has? Do you have to do a lot of zooming in and out, and panning during navigation? Let me know your thoughts. Rod
  12. I have a question about the versions of Bluechart. I'm kicking over buying bluecharts from Cabelas (where I have a bunch of credit), but they are version 5.5. Can I upgrade to 6.0 for free and if so, what is the process? Rod
  13. I'm considering the purchase of a 60c and have a few questions: Can that unit hold maps from various sources simultaneously with the ability to switch between them? I thought it could, but I think I remember reading somewhere that if you load in a second map, it erases the first one. I would like to load up a bluechart map and city select maps at the same time. Doable? Secondly, is this unit compatible with Roads & Rec and the US Topo? If yes, can I have maps from bluechart, City select, Roads & Rec, and topo all loaded up at the same time and switch between them? I realize I only get the auto-routing with City select. Also, where is the best/cheapest place to buy this bad boy online? thanks, Rod
  14. Brand new Magellan meridian Platinum. Box opened only to verify contents and operation. $280 gets it to your door.
  15. Brand new. Box only opened to verify contents and operation of GPS. In perfect condition. $280 gets it to your door. If you're worried about our transaction, don't be. I have a very good rating on ebay, save for one clown from a foreign country that is trying to slander my account. The account name is Reginaldp if you want to look at my feedback.
