Lets hear some GPS Unit abuse stories. . .
geoark1 replied to mudhuggers's topic in GPS technology and devices
We have an etrex and a summit, of course DH gets the summit, but my etrex is more accurate . The long Thanksgiving weekend of 01 in the Branson area we found out what good equipment we had..Doing Busiek's cache by galphoto on 65. DH took trail, I took as a crow flies, walked across the creek, I carried my gps and FRS radio. DH had gps, cell, camera, and radio. Lost radio contact, he didn't arrive, and didn't arrive, instead a family from KCity arrived, visited a few minutes, then headed for the truck. I arrive to find truck with all doors open, DH barefooted, and clothes changed....As I get closer all the equipment is laying on hood of truck, dash etc drying. All 6 ft of DH stepped in the only deep hole of creek. GPS immediately came back to life, next camera, then radio and lastly the phone. Team GEOARK1 Searching for the next CACHE -

If some state Parks Systems get wind of this they will make it part of the permitting requirment. Can see it now " you are required to have x hours in a certifyed course that shows you can properly install the batteries in your GPS" Team GEOARK1 Searching for the next CACHE -
