  1. Check this site out.........lots of info on the route. Also, try Topo Canada, it has the maps that you can download onto your GPS & then you can create your own route. http://www.canoeingbc.com/canoeroute.html Gary
  2. A few years ago, i had a Sunto wristwatch/ Altimeter/Barometer/Thermometer. I found that A/ the thermometer took 1/2hr. after it was off your wrist before it took any accurate readings (due to body heat). B/ After only 2-3 months, all the printing on it started to rub off on the outside of the unit & after 4 months, you couldn't read the functions very well at all. Don't get me wrong, i really liked that watch (even tho it was huge!), but i didn't like spending all that money for something that acted like a cheap imitation! I ended up returning it.
  3. Regional Dist. of Nanaimo has a map function that has overlayed aerial photos. http://www.rdn.bc.ca/links/links.asp It takes a bit of getting used to, but it's neat. (Only for this area tho)
  4. Sorry, i should of been more specific. I have a Garmin Legend C & Mapsource Topo Canada V2. & yes, the contor lines(light Brown) are the same width as the backroads(light grey), making it difficult to distinguish sometimes. In fact, sometimes, they even get lost in the contors. I would of thought that Garmin would have to keep to convention, if they leased the rights to this from the Govt. (an assumption on my part)
  5. I have the Topo Canada V2 & have noticed that secondary roads are represented by a grey line. According to the Govt. Web site, the standard for this is supposed to be orange. What i'm finding is that it's hard to make out these roads, especially when they run parrallel to a topo line. is there any way to change the color on these? Some other software maybe?
  6. I agree that perhaps the clerck wasn't paying attention. However, i know that in some of the jobs that my wife has had, if she was short at the end of the day, then she had to make up the difference out of her own paycheck! That hurts when you aren't making very much to begin with!
  7. That's the red arrow your talking about? The one i mean is the horizontal dashed line. In the manual it shows the Vertical red arrow (with an offset portion in the middle to represent the deviation), but also a horizontal dashed line. I can't figure out the meaning of this dashed line.
  8. Thanks for your reply, but what is the use/meaning of the dashed line?
  9. On a Garmin Legend C, you have an option to use a Bearing Pointer, or a Course Pointer whist in the compass mode. The manual isn't all that clear to me with regards to Course Pointer. It displays a horizontal dashed line that represents .........what? Also, the manual says it displays a graphic indication of deviance from course according to a scale that's shown. Unfortunatly, my eyes can't read what that scale is . Is there any way to adjust the size of this reading? Thanks
  10. I have a telescopic kind that also has a camera mount on the top. It's very handy & serves double duty.
  11. Ah, that makes sense! Thanks for that. Just curious tho, what would you set it at for hiking a trail that isn't on your topo map?
  12. I have an etrex legend C & yesterday found me enjoying a canoe ride in the middle of a lake. I had entered a waypoint to an island & found enroute that the unit was having trouble recalculating a route to it. That is to say, it would all of a sudden say it was recalculting, get to about 10%, recalculate, get to 50%, recalculate, etc. This happened for about 5 minutes before it finnally 'took'. Is this normal? Also, when we were looking for a cache, it would say i was 3M away, then all of a sudden it would say i was 25M away! It was frustrating! I'm relativly new to both the unit & the sport, so any insight would be appreciated. Thanks
  13. Thanks for the responses. I think i'm on the right track thanks to you! I guess it's just a wee bit of information overload at the moment. I gave the waypoints icons & now they show up on my unit as geocaches. Thanks
  14. Hi, i'm new to this, so here's my first ? I just bought a Garmin etrex Legend C. After reading the manual, i doesen't really tell me how to enter Geocache coordinates into it. It refers me to thier website, which doesn't seem to have any info either. Can someone point me in the right direction? I've downloaded the caches as *.loc files & using EasyGPS, uploaded them into the legend C, but they come in as waypoints & i don't see how to get them showing up as geocache's. Does this even make sense? Thanks
  15. Thanks for all your welcomes! As a newbie, i'm sure i'll have lots of questions coming up. Like................what's the first sign of addiction?
  16. Hi Everyone, We are just getting into Geocaching & went out today & found our First one. This is a neat sport/hobby that gets you out to enjoy the great outdoors.
