  1. I hate to post this, but the search function isn't working on the forum so I have no way of looking this answer up. I currently have GpxView for my iPaq 3870. I'm looking for other PPC 2002 software to try out. Any other suggestions?
  2. I didn't order through Amazon, but rather another online retailer. I kept watching the tracking on the package and for 5 days straight it said the package was on the Fed Ex truck ready for delivery. Finally I started calling people and found that the driver wasn't sure where my address was so he threw the package off of his truck and forgot about it. Its nice to know people are so well taken care of. Fed Ex said I could have my shipping refunded. All I would have to do is to contact the shipper, have them apply for the refund and then they would have to refund the money to me. WHAT????? Needless to say I contacted the shipper and haven't heard anything back and keep getting the run around from them. I take it in the shorts and get NO satisfaction! Gotta love it!
  3. What you need is a new GPS. I don't know what unit you are using, but I started using the Lowrance iFinder Hunt and it is awesome! Here is a shot of a map screen from the MapCreate software. The dark green topped trees are scrapes and the light green topped trees are rubs. These are all icons that come installed on the unit. You can save just icons and not waypoints if you want. All of the icons are hunting related and are geared for deer, turkey, duck and upland hunting. I'd sure keep this in mind if you're looking for a new unit. Well worth the money!!!!!
  4. Very good firmware and love the antenna reception!
  5. I know I have checked the changes on firmware updates in the past and all of the things that are updated don't affect anything that I do. Just like on the GSAK Beta, I never had a single problem with it but yet then I'm not a super in depth user either. I still go ahead and update the firmware JUST IN CASE I might need those features in the future. I know with Garmin you can sign up on their web site and they will email you when the firmware you are interrested is updated.
  6. I worked in the funeral industry for 3 years and dealt with a lot of different stuff. Including the lady who wanted her husband buried naked because he came into the world naked (????????). Anyway, most people don't realize that you can't just go and dump grandpa's ashes somewhere. That is considered illegal disposition of human cremains. There are always legal ways to go about things. In this particular instance, the disposer of the ashes would have to have permission from the land owner (state, city, county or whoever) to dispose of the ashes. They would have also been in violation of law by leaving a bag/container/tag with the ashes. That is what causes so much concern. All of the laws are written for reasons. Maybe someone would be sickened by the though of that being the cremains of a human. The laws are written to prevent this sort of thing. Had the disposers followed the written laws then it would have been just another cache hunt.
  7. So I have the free version of Google Earth and I use it to look up a few things. I'd like to know how other people use Google Earth in Geocaching. Do you load waypoints into the program? Do you do this from the GPSr or do you use a program like GSAK? I haven't used Earth very extensively so if you can please go into detail on how you load things in and stuff. Thanks!
  8. Unless Garmin has changed the cable, you will be disappointed to find that it is a serial cable. I have never seen Metro guide, but I have used the MapSource Topo with the Legend. The basemap is poor at best with smaller roads. It has most MAJOR highways and that is it. I used my Legend for hunting and geocaching. I needed to see those out of the way roads and almost non-existant roads and Topo has them all. I never had any problems with the 8 mb memory. I never needed more than that. As far as software for waypoints, I alwas used EasyGPS when I had my Legend. I'm using a Lowrance right now and I like the ease of GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife). I never got to use GSAK with my Legend so I can't speak for how it works.
  9. Did you look into the Lowrance iFinder units? I couldn't be more happy with my iFinder Hunt!
  10. I use the iFinder Hunt and I don't think there could be a better unit for hunting. I'm glad I found it cause I'll never have another. The only unit actually made for hunters. If you look here in this forum someone started a thread about using the iFinder and MapCreate. It has tips and all that. Search for it and it should be easy to find.
  11. Yes you can save cache pages on your laptop. I've done this for a couple of hunts now and it works out alright. The only downfall is that it takes more time. In order to save the page, just open the cache page that you want to save and then click on FILE>SAVE AS and then select your save options. You get to save the whole cache page and you get to look at it just like you do when you're sitting at home. The downfall is that you have to save every page that you are planning on visiting. Getting a Pocket Query and using a Pocket PC is TONS easier and quicker, but if you don't have the PPC or are not a Premium Member then that is the only way to go. Now if you are a Premium Member and don't have a PPC then there is a much eaiser way to go about doing this. You can run your PQ and get all your results and then use GSAK and export as an HTML file. This will be much easier to navigate opposed to saving all of the pages and plus it will take you a WHOLE lot less time!
  12. I bought a version of MapSource Topo off of eBay a while back. It had the package with it and the key. I don't think the software was used however. I paid like $60 for it rather than the $100 so I saved a bit of money. If you buy it from a reputible ebayer then you shouldn't have any problems. If you buy it from a guy with a low rating then I would beware. Not saying that the seller is crooked, just keep your eyes open and be an informed buyer.
  13. I had the same problem with my new iFinder Hunt. You have to tell the GPSr to look at the file on the SD card before it will recognize it.
  14. I can't get it to work on my Windows CE 3.0 Jornada.
  15. Any chance in getting a way to export a file into .lit or .prc format so that the items can be viewed in a ebook viewer? I know my ebook on my PocketPC uses a .lit file to view, but Mobipocket uses the .prc extension.
  16. I'm running CE 3.0 on my Jornada. I don't know how much difference there is between 3.0, 4.20, and PocketPC 2002 or 2003. I have been told that with the processor in the Jornada that you cannot upgrade to another OS. What handheld are you using?
  17. GPXsonar will not work on CE. I have the same problem with my Jornada and I cannot find a program to run. What I have to do is to create a html file with GSAK and then I can view it with the file browser on the Jornada. If you find the program that will run on CE let me know because I want it too!!!!!
  18. Now let me ask you this, I guess to clarify... This is how I see things happen (in my mind) so please tell me if I'm wrong. My new querry that I get from GC.com, does not search for caches that I have found. That search is only set to give me the 100 caches that I have not found. Therefore, when I load the new PQ into GSAK it does not update those caches that I have logged as found because they should not come up on the search. Therefore, how does GSAK even know if I found a cache (via this method that I descrived and the way I see it). Is this correct? Should I change my PQ and have it search for the found items as well so that I can let GSAK figure them out? I guess I don't need to know 100 unfound caches (some of the numbers will be taken by found logs so my search for 100 caches will be some found and some unfound). I have GSAK set up to search for found logs by my ID#, but I guess the way I see it now I'm not letting GSAK even see if I have found one since the PQ isn't including the found caches.
  19. I opened the "found" column so that I can check the caches that I have found. I guess I just figure it would be a lot easier if GSAK would automatically see what caches you have found and move them to a different file so that you have a "Found" and "Not Found" file. I don't know much about programing, but it doesn't seem that it would take that much as long as your PQ notices that your caches have been found or something like that. Just my opinion though.
  20. I have looked at the FAQ's and tried searching the forums and can't find the answer I'm looking for. Maybe it is out there and I'm not finding it. What I'm looking for is for GSAK to update my found items. When I update my PQ (usually 2 to 3 times per week) of course the PQ's don't search for my found items. I'm asking for 100 caches and not including my found items. How can I adjust this so that GSAK will acknowledge that a cache has been found and will remove it from my list (or move it somewhere else or something like that). Right now I have been changing the cache status and would like for GSAK to do this by itself. Is there a way to do this?
  21. That got it there! I logged out of both sites and logged back in through Geocaching.com.
  22. And still no update on the info.........????????
