  1. Maybe we are ruthless cachers, but we would take her again and the more she complained the harder the caches would get. That way she would either like the easy ones or stop asking to go.
  2. We took a weekend trip to Nasville, TN on June 1st and 2nd of 2002 and found 35 in the two days we were there. They weren`t all right together but scattered all across town. Some were hikes and some were drive-bys. Haven`t tried multiple states yet, but its a thought and I think you did pretty good.
  3. "The eTrex is completely waterproof so it can take an accidental splash or dunk in the water and still continue to perform." Sounds like you voided the warranty by intentionally putting it in the water. Besides the elevation could have been taken a few inches above the water and still been as accurate as the Etrex will get. From my experience with them the elevation feature is not the accurate any way. Maybe you should write the Garmin company and suggest they market it as water resistant and not waterproof. Another suggestion is to buy from a store like Wal-Mart and take it back and they will usually exchange it. Just my two cents worth.
  4. Last summer my ex-wife said no more geocaching for our boys because of poison oak. Worst case I`ve ever seen on my youngest. I called my dad and he said to make a tea out of Mullin leaves and wash him in it while the tea was still warm. Believe it or not it dried up almost over night. I have always tried to carry a spray bottle with Dawn dishwashing liquid and water to wash down any exposed skin and a spray bottle with plain rubbing alcohol to spray afterwards. This usually works pretty good.
  5. We bought a case of 44mm cash register rolls for around ten dollars. They are about the right size for a 35mm film canister. Each roll is 120 ft. long, so you can make up hundreds of micros. We hane started using M&M minis containers as they leave alittle more room for a longer pencil and the lid is attached. On occasion we leave a roll in a traditional cache so others can make their own micros.
  6. Being that he has only found five caches it seems that maybe he didn`t realize that this was going to be a little more difficult than going to the store. Maybe before getting too involved in the game he should read some of the logs for the caches that he is going to look for. Also, read some of the stories on the forums that other geocachers have to tell. I know we`ve all had our own bad experiences. We`ve made new trails with our backsides and had our six year old step within twelve inches of a four and a half foot rattle snake. We`ve been lucky so far, but there is always danger. It`s just a chance you take that goes with the addiction of geocaching. The way I look at it, there will always be a danger involved and you just have to watch what your doing. And always carry a stick.:-) All in all it`s the thrill of the hunt that keeps us going.
