  1. THAT could be one of the finest results of all!!
  2. OK, I have decided that from now on, when I'm FTF, I am waiting to log my find online until someone else has logged a find, and here's why: Quite frankly, the FTF races aren't that fun if no one else is racing to get them. Not only that, but I think that most people in my area, once they see a log, delay chasing the new caches. So, in order to get a few of them out a little faster, I think that from now on, I will not log until I see another log. The only exception to this will be if it is a rather remote one, but I don't chase most of those anyhow. Go ahead and tell me what an (jerk {edited by moderator}) you think I am and all that stuff. But this is my story, and I'm sticking to it. I have one that came out about 5 hours ago. I found it 2 hours later, and still no other logs. I'm sitting on it.
  3. You, runner_one, are one of the smartest cachers around. I hate tree huggers. Go ahead....flame me!!
  4. Well, since Alaska borders the Pacific Ocean, and is also the Northernmost and Westernmost state in the union, I think it qualifies as being in the PNW. So, how bout this one: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...0d-c9bedaa29d24
  5. THe first log on the following cache is pretty interesting: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...=y&decrypt=
  6. The National Park Rangers are advising hikers in Glacier National Park and other Rocky Mountain parks to be alert for bears and take extra precautions to avoid an encounter. They advise park visitors to wear little bells on their clothes so they make noise when hiking. The bell noise allows bears to hear them coming from a distance and not be startled by a hiker accidentally sneaking up on them. This might cause a bear to charge. Visitors should also carry a pepper spray can just in case a bear is encountered. Spraying the pepper into the air will irritate the bear's sensitive nose and it will run away. It is also a good idea to keep an eye out for fresh bear scat so you have an idea if bears are in the area. People should be able to recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear scat. Black bear droppings are smaller and often contain berries, leaves, and possibly bits of fur. Grizzly bear droppings tend to contain small bells and smell of pepper.
  7. This is exactly what I would have done. I would have told them quite plainly, "Loan me the pen, or this cache is leaving with me until I can find a pen, at which time I will bring back the signed log." And then I would have done just that. Yes, it may have affected a few other cachers who came hunting while I was gone with the cache, but sometimes, you just gotta do what you just gotta do!!
  8. You have to admire someone who openly admits that it IS about the numbers. Because IT IS!! And if you aren't first, you're last!!!
  9. I find most of the regular posters here have great senses of humor. Perhaps it is you who are taking their posts too seriously? Hell no. I can laugh at anything. People who know me know that. These clowns need to get over themselves though. Like a couple people have already said, if you CHOOSE to get in your car, and burn the gas to go chacse a cache, or a FTF, or a specific TB, and you don't get it, NO MATTER THE REASON, that is your own fault. And if it's because I got you there with some witty posting or logging, then I'll laugh even harder at you.
  10. does this answer your question? DOH!!! You got me.
  11. Messing with people's heads is one thing. Downright lying and causing them to spend time and money needlessly is another. Answer this question please, and be honest. Say you're into travelbugs in a big way. You see this certain tb logged into a cache that is 30 miles away so you load up and drive the distance only to find that the tb isn't there. You would probably be a bit disappointed but you figure someone beat you to it which sometimes happens in gecocaching. But, then you later find that the person who logged it into the cache had lied about dropping it there in the first place. Honestly, would you really find this humorous? Ya know, I can honestly say that if someone tried to pull a funny, to be funny, and I turned out to be the butt of the funny, then I'm fine with that, and quite frankly, I'm pretty sure I'd laugh at it. Hell, I'm the kind of person that jokes about the fact that I've lost a sibling in one car accident, and have another sibling that is now severely disabled as a result of a different accident 13 years later. People deal with different things in different ways, and just because I choose to laugh at something you don't find funny, or even that the majority of other people don't find funny, doesn't mean that it isn't funny.
  12. OOOH! I am SO with you, Roddy! Especially here where gas recently topped out at 6.86$ a gallon! Went about 100 miles roundtrip today to get a FTF and it cost us almost 20 bucks in gas! Ridiculous! BUT... we got the FTF, hehehe! Hey, a caching family has to have priorities, right! THis is exactly the stuff I'm talking about. If you were REALLY concerned about the gas, you would never have attempted this cache today. Truth be told, you were all about the FTF. You all have to realize that gas is a major part of geocaching these days. If you can't afford to waste a little, then find another hobby, or get a bike.
  13. How'd you find it? By accident or something? SOunds to me like it was just downright foolish to leave TBs in there if you weren't sure that it was a GC.com cache.
  14. I have come to realize that most geocachers that post to this board on a regular basis have no sense of humor and take this crap way too seriously. Anything done to "mess with people's heads" is totally unacceptable to them. I on the other hand, would find this quite humorous myself.
  15. Go back to the bag, take it to the dumpster, and then get back to finding the dam cache!!
  16. The race seems to be for First to FIND, not First to Arrive at the location. If I arrived and found someone else looking, I would just join in the search and whoever FINDs it first can be the first to sign and claim the FTF. I actually had one a few weeks ago where I arrived on site and had someone else pull up and join in about 30 seconds later. Naturally, we both just casually introduced ourselves and went about looking for the cache. HE happened to find it first, and rather then pull it right out, he just sort of stood nearby and waited for me to spot it in the camo. Once I saw where and how it was hidden, he pulled it from the spot and claimed the FTF, and rightly so.
  17. Remember people, those are only GUIDELINES, not RULES. GUIDELINES have some flexibility.
  18. I think I seem to recall seeing something recently that said these kind of caches are not allowed cause they don't meet the guidelines.
  19. You can do a Pocket Query searching for the caches closest to a certain Lat/Longitude point you enter. If you can find a cache near the area you know you will be, you can use that as your centerpoint and ask the PQ to return caches closest to that cache too.
  20. HAd to Google this stuff to find out what it is. Anyone know where I can get some?
  21. Nah, that was a bit different, and that's why the new thread. And actually, I think another good thread would be directed at FTF hounds, with a question like this: Would you rather found out that the FTF race had been won by someone else by: A. Seeing their log the first time you see the new cache online. B. Seeing their log in the log book, even if it is well after they logged it.
