  1. Clay Class update:

I have a location, Saratoga Federated Church in Saratoga (directly across the street from my In Memoriam cache.) I can have a large meeting room pretty much as often as I need it at no charge (right price for me).

I am awaiting an opinion from our esteemed approvers on whether this could be an event (gotta get those smilies eh?), then I will post the particulars. I will do more than one to fit demand.

First dates I have in mind are Fri 3/11, or Sat 3/12, in the evening. Class will be about 2 hours. Seating will be for 15, but there is room for an unlimited number of spectators.

I know that ND can't come, but if you did it on the 11th I might be able to come, depending on the time.

My mom (who also does Fimo stuff) has one of those pasta rollers; should I bring it?

  2. Marky,

I have a couple of TB's that want to go to England and Scotland.    I'll watch for the post on the location.  Thanks.

Yes, please hang on to them.

    Time Update!

I forgot that we are having a going away party for Anthony from 1pm to 5pm on the 13th, so now I am thinking 7PM and dinner sounds better. I found out that Olaf is staying in Milpitas, so I thought maybe we could have it at the the Pizza Place where JoeSpaz has his Highway 84 Travelbug Hotel cache.

    --Marky

Sounds good to me too! Is this going to be official or unofficial?

  3. Maybe you could start populating the otherwise empty calendar in the Yahoo group with the various meetings, trail days, etc. ?

    The Yahoo group?

(I suppose I could walk back through the 80 pages of old messages on this thread and find more info, but I'm lazy and I bet others would like to know as well.)

    Steve and others:

The Yahoogroup page can be found here.

It hasn't been too active lately but maybe we could inject some life into it.

And why haven't we formed a formal group yet? The idea was to make a Silicon Valley Geocahers organization of some kind (I'd imagine parallel to BADGES).

  4. ALERT!

TravelingViking is coming to town and we are going to meet up with him on the afternoon of Sunday the 13th around 4:00pm. Haven't figured out exactly where yet. Last time we met at the coffee place that the travel bug hotel lives in, in Sunnyvale. If you happen to run across any bugs that might like to jump across the pond, Travelling Viking would love to move them. He has already helped 140 travel bugs jump the Atlantic. I'll update this forum with a meeting location when I get more details.

    --Marky.

A coffee place in Sunnyvale with TBs? Do tell! I thought I knew where all of these TB hotels were. ;)

  5. As for a place to hold polymer clay classes, there used to be Almaden Valley communuty center across the street from the air raid siren locationless that ProTech logged and the Jake's Play Lot cache (in normal terms, that's close to Camden and Almaden Expwy.) but they tore it down and are currently building the replacement.

Hi, the Vineland Branch Library community room that I mentioned is the interim location of the Almaden Community Center.

I found out that the Vineland cost is $35/hour (yikes!) but if people are willing to pitch in to help cover the cost it might work out. :D

  6. On another note...

I am looking for a place in the Almaden Valley area to hold a Polymer clay class for geocachers. I need tables and seating for around 20, with good light. Any suggestions? (either a public spot or someone with a large rec room...)

You could try the Vineland Branch Library, but I'm not sure how much it costs. I might be able to wrangle something free (I know the library assistants there) but I can't promise anything.

  7. Are you talking about your brother? (If I'm not mistaken, Spaz is your bro, right?)

Are you trying to stir up trouble? I can't comment on that at this time.

Nope, just asking. You made reference to a series of caches and I was just wondering if it was that series.

  8. I think that there are two sorts of Geocachers - the 'clean map' types, and the 'pick and choose' types. (which sort are you?) If you're a 'clean map' type, then the ignore list is a little like cheating. If you're a 'pick and choose', then what difference does it make? -- other than perhaps making it a little easier to pick and choose.

Good post. I am definitely the pick and choose type. I know I have no hope of clearing the map around here (San Jose) so I do what I can to find the caches the kids and I can manage. :surprise: I'm having fun with it!!

  9. Congratulations to winini on 1200 and nice to see that he is back. FTF hunts just exponentially increased in difficulty :anibad:

My STFAW count(probably around 30-40) will be growing soon :surprise:

Nurse Dave got to 1200 this weekend! And here I am slogging along trying to get to 700!

  10. Uh, yeah, guess it's pretty bad when you spend your Anniversary caching like we did in Concord/Walnut Creek on Sat. But it was just such a purdy sunny day not be outside! Dinner at the Pyramid Alehouse and one last cache in the parking gargage completed that romantic day! :surprise:

Hey, we spent our honeymoon caching! (in SF)

We spent the weekend in Oakland and Alameda caching. Rainy but fun. :anibad:

  11. Yes there any number of reasons I might want to ignore a cache. There's one cacher I know who was warned that a certain series of caches was not a good idea, but the advice was not heeded, so I personally refuse to search any of the caches in that series, so now I can make the dozens of them fall off my search list!! WooHoo

Are you talking about your brother? (If I'm not mistaken, Spaz is your bro, right?)

  12. I though that Succession would be a good choice to convert to an Earthcache, although the current version would probably just be moved someplace with a lot of ivy like its twin, yuck. And you're right, I think the owner wants an Earthcache as part of his right-side icon collection. :)

What is an Earthcache anyway? I'm a little hazy on the idea.

  13. I am annoyed!!!

I was willing to let it go for a while, but...

I saw people writing down TB numbers at the CITO... That's not my style because, while I like to move bugs around, I could not care less how many I have grabbed, and I don't want to mess up the bugs' journeys.

Several of the travel bugs I grabbed at WoW's on Saturday (and logged on the spot, with my Sidekick II), AND ACTUALLY TOOK WITH ME, have since been grabbed and dropped BACK into the CITO by people who had written down the bug numbers, leaving me to grab them back.

Two of my own bugs were grabbed from the CITO by other people and then dropped genuinely into nearby caches, THEN grabbed by people who had written numbers down, leaving a mess to clean up involving grabbing them and then dropping them back to where they were supposed to be. This shouldn't have to happen.

The least someone could do, if they just HAD to log bugs they didn't actually take... Is at least check first to see if someone else actually had them before trying to grab them. But these two people I'm talking about didn't even check, apparently.

And here these people, out of greed, curiosity, or ???, have messed up these bugs' travels and caused inconvenience for others.

I do not think this is right. It's annoyed me to the point where I am writing this post. Ordinarily I would not bitch about such a thing, but this just bugged (ha) me enough that I had to say something.

There, I got it off my chest.

  14. I spied a lone hill, guarded by lions, and placed the ring within a box of tupperware, seated on a small ledge. I think it may be safe here as no one goes here anymore... and the hide is known only to myself and my firstborn. I will watch it daily as I come and go from my home, until another retrieves it and relieves me of the burden.

May it be kept safely from the evil Nazgul...

It seems that concealing the Precious in the same region as Nazgul might not have been such a good plan. <_<

  15. Ironically, I have a few extra unregistered TB tag sets here ready to go.

I may take you up on that. Maybe I'll let you know when I come over to Quiksilver to set it free - we can hook up and I can grab a TB from ya and you can kiss the Precious goodbye  .

    If it ever stops raining....

We got 17 TB tags for wedding presents. Let me know if you want one and we can make arrangements. <_<

  16. Sorry, Bob & the 3 Little Bears, if your request slipped through the cracks. This thread was a great idea in theory, but its just not being monitored regularly by any of the admins, so I'm going to un-pin it and let it slip away.

Hey! This could still be a good thread; the approver(s) just need to subscribe to it so they can keep track!

No, it's okay, it hasn't been a very active thread anyway. It was a good idea that sort of outlived its usefulness (everyone got to vent and then they quieted down)...
