DruMorgan, a southern California cacher who inhabits channel #geocache quite frequently, was one of the people to find the first Orange County cache. I'll look forward to hearing what you and he get for your prizes! ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA Buy Tupperware for cache containers.

Someone was just telling me the other day that I should go for this one. And yes... There are LOTS of caches around here that are on private property. Some of the Urban Assaults are more obviously on private property than others... ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA Buy Tupperware for cache containers.
  4. quote:Originally posted by GeoROCKS!:My most popular caches -- Davenport Landing (a 1/2 ammo can) and Chameleon Row (a 2/1 micro) -- get regular visits every few days. For the record, Ricky and I tried to visit this one a few weeks ago and the area was closed for a "private event". We got asked by a security guard to LEAVE! Didn't make a very good first impression of our first visit to Santana Row!!! We will try again, though. ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA Buy Tupperware for cache containers.
  5. quote:Originally posted by CoronaKid:Call me crazy, but I've noticed that many geocachers have a tendency to only hunt out those caches that are less than 2 terrain. All of the caches in my area that involve a good-sized hill will usually be ignored by local cachers. While I understand that everyone is different and likes different types of caches, I don't understand the mentality of skipping a cache just because it involves a little more work. My concern is that the sport of geocaching will further degenerate into nothing but a bunch of drive-by caches as geocachers get lazier and lazier. Is my concern legitimate or am I just making too much of it? To me, the reason I got into caching was so I could find some interesting hikes away from all the hustle and bustle. I do enjoy the occasional micro-urban cache, but I prefer the caches that require one to break a sweat. Am I alone on this? Apparently you have not taken into account that there are those of us who take our kids caching. I take my sons (now 5 and 7) and they would have difficulty hunting anything with terrain more than 2 (sometimes 1.5, depending on the cache). Yesterday I took them to hunt a cache with terrain of 3 and it proved to be downright dangerous for them -- practically cliff climbing -- so we aborted the attempt. There are also people who have medical conditions, such as lung problems (this is also the case with my 7-year-old, who has cystic fibrosis) that do not permit them to go on a strenuous hike or climb. Then, leaving all of this aside, there's the point that this sport is for everyone... And if people want to just hunt the easy ones, who cares? You do what you want and let them do what they want. Because, after all, it's not supposed to be about the numbers, but about the sport and the fun we have doing it. I could say more but I would guess you get my point by now. ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA Buy Tupperware for cache containers.

With the right vehicle, this is a total driveby cache. Yeah, that one comes up on my PQ. Unfortunately I don't have a 4WD vehicle or I could finally have my first FTF. ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA Buy Tupperware for cache containers.

  8. Jeremy: I like the new page look a lot but there are a couple of things I've noticed. When I click on "search for caches close to my home coordinates" from "my cache page", the page I get to does show the caches closest to my home coords but it also says I am not logged in, even if I have already logged in with "remember me" ticked. We've talked about this in #geocache and I seem not to be the only one who is having this happen. Because I am not logged in, I cannot see when I last visited the caches. Maybe it's just me, but I kind of liked having the ones I've found or are disabled (less so on the latter) at the bottom. I will probably get used to it being the new way, though. gnbrotz mentioned in #geocache that he was unable to stay logged in *at all* -- unable to edit caches because even though he logged in he kept suddenly being not logged in. I don't know if this is related to the update. Anyway, as I said, I really like it. It's a lot prettier (nice colors). Thanks, Jeremy. ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA Buy Tupperware for cache containers.

No exciting stories I'm afraid! Now we are at 105 and shooting for 200 by Christmas. Considering it took us over a year to get to 100, I'm not sure how reasonable that goal is, but we'll wait and see. ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA Buy Tupperware for cache containers.

Should I just use Yahoogroups? I like this idea. I would subscribe. Yahoogroups is good, but I'd make it a private group (not listed on the website) and just advertise the link here. I get a TON of spam sent to "groupname-owner@yahoogroups.com" for the public groups I own. ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA Live geocaching help 1-800-ASK-KEEN extension 0324998 - call when you're out caching and you get stuck! 16. My birthday is July 5, which happens to be M&J's cacheversary. I'll probably be at 120something by then. They will be at... Who knows! And I've been caching since approximately May of last year! The boys and I got to our 100th find on Saturday. Which cache was it? "Thirsty?"! I never would have guessed that this would be the one. We did all micros that day, 8 in total. More caches than I have ever done with the kids in one day, by far. They were real troupers, but then, they were excited about getting to 100 as well. Now we are shooting for 200 by Christmas. Maybe we will even surpass it. ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA Live geocaching help 1-800-ASK-KEEN extension 0324998 - call when you're out caching and you get stuck! 17. Geocaching Camporee Would anyone be interested in helping me plan a "geocaching camporee" at a local campground? Mt. Madonna and Sanborn Skyline have reasonably priced group campgrounds that a number of us could go in on for a weeekend. People who are good at such things could, perhaps, plan some activities, we could have a weenie and marshmallow roast, etc... Hmm maybe even some caching... But I can't do it alone (now I am going to have that song from "Chicago" in my head). Who among you would be interested?? ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA Live geocaching help 1-800-ASK-KEEN extension 0324998 - call when you're out caching and you get stuck! 19. Hi all. Got to work today and went to log a cache I found on the way, and found that my numbers were down by three. Anyone else? It's not any of the more recent logs, as I started keeping track on my Palm a few months ago. Gotta be something older. Since some of you have found everything around here, I'm thinking maybe you might be missing something too and know what it is. I'm at a loss (and mad). ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA Live geocaching help 1-800-ASK-KEEN extension 0324998 - call when you're out caching and you get stuck! 21. GPX problems... I'm having some problems converting this GPX file to doc. It has come straight from Groundspeak, with no playing around in Watcher. This happens with this particular search result EVERY DAY. I think there is something corrupted about the file. Here's the file.
