  2. quote:Originally posted by Team Kender:^ The funny thing is Becky, I was just thinking about doing that. Seeing as how he has quite a presence on the boards and all I thought I'd contact him. Thanks for the extra push, I'll do that now. mtn-man is quit a presence in the geocaching IRC channel too. He's a nice guy. Good luck! Hopefully he responds! ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA
  3. I've just posted the final library cache. It's at the new joint library and I'm hoping it'll be approved in time for the grand opening celebration tomorrow morning. Update: It's approved! Right here! ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA [This message was edited by beckerbuns on August 15, 2003 at 12:01 PM.]
  4. Hmm. I just placed the final library cache (at the new joint library) and I was hoping it'd be approved by tomorrow's grand opening. Now I'm getting worried! Why don't you try emailing mtn-man? He approved my last two Bay Area caches, even though he is in Georgia. Something weird is going on for sure! ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA
  5. quote:Originally posted by kablooey:How do we know which ones you've already identified? As it says on the page, if you hover your pointer over a picture that's been identified, you'll see the name of the person and/or animal. ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA
  6. Guadalupe Oak View I developed the cache cam from this cache, because it had been sitting there full since about April. The photos can be found here. I was wondering if any of you could help me identify the cachers (and dogs) I haven't yet identified. Thanks! (Be sure to check out the great pic of Marky & Joani with marwagsalot.) ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA
  7. Informal gathering? A geocacher from Portland, OR (NurseDave) is coming to visit me this weekend (Fri-Sun). Would anyone be interested in an informal or formal event cache just for fun? Pizza maybe? ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA
  8. I hid the last two branch library micros over the weekend, but they have yet to be approved. I am planning on placing the final cache, for the new joint MLK main library, on Thursday. Hopefully it will be approved by the day of the official grand opening on Saturday! I will be there, working at the Call Center booth. Anyone who wants to, please stop by to see me. ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA Buy Tupperware for cache containers.

I have a TB that needs to get to Portland ASAP. Can you take it? See? I do _so_ post here! Yes, Fiz, I can take it. Any chance of you being at Chuck E. Cheese tonight for the low-key re-birthday party? I will be there, but late -- 8ish -- if anyone is there. If not, I can get it from you sometime before we go. We are leaving town for OR on August 30 (and we'll arrive there in 26 days, 3 hours, and 38 seconds). ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA Buy Tupperware for cache containers. 11. quote:Originally posted by TeamJiffy:_This thread is so quiet lately_ Fy guesses that it has to do with many of the people who normally contribute having discussions in ClayJar's chat room, vs. using the forum. What are other people's thoughts? Hmm. That's interesting. I guess we do have a lot of long, involved discussions in the IRC channel (irc.slashnet.org #geocache), but mostly there's all that sexual innuendo and taunting of the New England cachers. No, I'm only partly kidding. There *is* a large contingent of Bay Area cachers in the channel at any given time... Last night I was goaded by Kablooey and NurseDave (Portland, OR) into going for my first FTF (Edith's Other Trunk), and I got it! So these folks aren't half bad. Through the channel I also met my sometime-caching partners, team wwp (Jay, Caine & Becca). We've gone out on caching expeditions a few times now. AND the last weekend of this month, Ricky and I are going on a road trip to Portland, OR to visit with NurseDave and find some caches (and deliver some smashed pennies to trade at the smashed penny cache up there). So my long rambling post goes to show that the IRC channel can change one's life for the better. Though I do miss the discussion in this forum. ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA Buy Tupperware for cache containers.
  12. quote:Originally posted by georgeandmary:Well, you could always have the pennie smasher in your front yard so other people could smash their own Marky pennies.... for a small fee. It could pay for itself. Hey, Andy collects those smashed pennies too. I know that we would go over there and buy a few. ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA Buy Tupperware for cache containers.
  13. quote:Originally posted by Team Kender:Anyone get woken up by the crazy thunderboomers last night? I'm in SF and was woken up by a serious explosion. My first thoughts were "that's it, it's the Iraqi counterattack! time to go find that bombshelter cache!" then I realised it was thunder. Thunder in SF! Next thing you know it'll snow here. It was raining a little bit around 10:30 this morning, here at San Jose City Hall, while I was on my break (talking to a fellow cacher on the phone). That's twice I've felt it rain on me this summer (the first time was a couple of weeks ago when I was caching in the middle of the night with Kusanagi, Jay, Caine, and Becca!). Okay, it's not supposed to rain in the summer in northern California. What is going on!? ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA Buy Tupperware for cache containers.
  14. quote:Originally posted by Crusso:Do any other states have a similar website setup. Might be cool to make up a gallery of Geo plates from all over the country & post them someplace for use as wallpaper, decals, etc. California's site is here: https://vrir.dmv.ca.gov/ipp/ippMain.jsp You click on Personalized Plate and then you can play with it, like NY's site. I just orderd GPS HUNT! Yay! Ones that are definitely available: GEOCASH, GEOCACH, GPSADCT These are not available: CACHEME, CACHING, GEODASH, CACHIN ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA Buy Tupperware for cache containers.

  16. quote:Originally posted by marwagsalot:So, it was too hot for me to sit in the cachemobile while my human tried to locate the cache, so we parked the cachemobile and sat and watched the parade from the vineyard across the street, There goes Beckerbuns, there goes Blooey, there goes George and Mary, here come Joanie and Cachie. It was a regular Who's Who of the geocaching Northern California. We ran out of water, so we left, only to see 3 more cars trying to find the illegal, nonexistant parking, what's wrong with that picture. If this sound like whining, _it is_, everybody should be able to participate, not just a select few. There, I will get down off of my dog food box and go get a chew toy. You silly old dog. Why didn't you get out of your vehicle and let those Kusakids pat you? Or me? I still need to thank you in person for your generosity. Where were you parked? I was the first person to park at the trailhead. You must've been up the road. Well, for me it was quite a ride. If I hadn't been delayed at work by 20 minutes I would have been #1, I am confident of it. Oh well. The adventure was still great! It was great to see Jerry, Barefoot & Twinkle, Kablooey, bthomas, Kusanagi, the Kusakids, and George and Mary... and to see Marky & Joani on their way up when I was on my way down. You can read my log on the Magellan website, but just in case you aren't on there, here it is: quote:Whew. I figured I would never get the chance to try for it, so I went off to work thinking of other things. But I still reloaded the treasure page over and over and BAM there were the coords... Well I had to go get it of course. I hopped online and conversed briefly with Kusanagi and Kablooey and then 20 minutes later I was finally relieved of my work duties and I went running out the door. I drove breakneck speed all the way out there and parked (somewhat err, illegally) at the trailhead. I tore down the trail carrying only my GPSr, phone, and keys. Nearing a close ridge, I saw two people already in the general vicinity of the location of the cache. DOH! Oh well. When I got there I chatted with the first finder as the second finder found the cache. I didn''t catch their names. Then, as I was contemplating the hike, and realizing it might be difficult in my poorly-chosen footwear (sandals -- remember, I figured I wasn't going to get the cache), Barefoot & Twinkle arrived. Twinkle was a bit worse off than me, wearing sandals and a dress! Anyway, we all picked our way up there and were joined by Jerry of Stacy and Jerry. They found the treasure and waved me over. So I was third to arrive, and sixth to claim my prize -- a Magellan hat I have to send away for. On the hike back, my lack of water or common sense caught up with me and I had a little trouble. My hiking companions were thoughtful enough to wait for me, and on our way back we passed some people we didn't know, someone Barefoot knew, as well as Bthomas and Kablooey, all heading toward the cache. We got back to where all the cars were, and there were Kusanagi and the Kusakids. I climbed exhaustedly into my air conditioned car and gulped down the 1 cup of water I had there (and it was warm, ugh). After a few minutes of futilely trying to call DruMorgan and tell him I found this treasure, I headed out, waving goodbye to Kusanagi and Bthomas. About fifty feet down I passed George and Mary (2 hour drive for them!) and we talked for a few minutes. Farther down the hill I passed Marky & Joani, but I don''t think they saw me. It was a regular stampede! Anyway, thank you for the adventure. I''ve never had FTF on a cache, so I don''t know why I thought I could get FTF on this, but it sure was fun trying!!! ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA Buy Tupperware for cache containers.
  17. quote:Originally posted by skydiver:I just replied to Heidi via email with the details. It was definately this image, at this path... http://maps.Groundspeak.com/20/25925_files/image_map.gif but it wasn't a map, and it wasn't child friendly (made Nude Geocacher's posts look tame in comparison). I even did a right click/view image, reload, reload, reload, to make sure I wasn't hallucinating. When I checked about an hour later and did another reload, the image of questionable origin was replaced by the expected map, which was when I figured somebody had fixed it. So it was porn? Are you sure it wasn't one of those annoying flash or java popups from spyware? ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA Buy Tupperware for cache containers.

  20. Jeremy, how about a kids caching forum? I think with the growing popularity of the sport among kids, it might be a good idea. What do you think? ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA Buy Tupperware for cache containers.
  21. Welcome to the weird and wacky world of geocaching. How old are you, Crystal? ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA Buy Tupperware for cache containers.
  22. ...has reached her first goal. I would like Marky & Joani to do a little first aid on the bug's tag, and then I'll place it in a local cache. ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA Buy Tupperware for cache containers.

  25. Re: My library caches I wanted to let the Bay Area cachers know that I have replaced the missing micros at the Pearl Ave. and Almaden branches. I have also placed a new cache at the Calabazas branch and plan to hit a few more this coming week. As you may have noticed if you have hunted any in this series in the past few days, the San Jose Public Libraries are all closed through July 9th for a computer system upgrade... So it's a great time to cache there without feeling too conspicuous. Cheers... ------------------------------------- Becky Davis San Jose, CA Buy Tupperware for cache containers.
