  1. I like it, too. Keeping a smaller stand like that on display gives you the option of changing the display whenever you feel like it, and not being overwhelmed by a mass of coins. Christmas coins in December, personal coins all on display together for a while, animal themes next time, or whatever you feel like putting out. And it holds all shapes and sizes nicely. Some spring flowers would be nice today, since it's only going up to -25 here (about 30 degrees colder than normal!).

  3. Very true. We rarely even look through the swag anymore, but if we spot a tag in the cache we'll pick it up and move it. Also, make sure your carving or imprint aren't likely to wear off from the wear and tear of traveling. If the numbers become illegible the TB is just another cache toy.
  4. From your logs it looks like you've figured out how to put it in the cache, so good job! I think the problem was that you selected Discovered from the Found It menu. Discovered is used when you don't take the TB from the cache, but just want credit for seeing it there. If you're taking the TB with you to move to another cache, you select one of the other options, depending on the situation. Most of the others are easy to figure out, but that Discovered option causes lots of confusion, as you'll notice if you hang around the TB forums. And welcome to the forums!
  5. There isn't much you can do. If you know them personally you can remind them that they aren't supposed to keep other people's trackables, even Jeeps. For some reason people think it's OK to keep Jeeps, where they would never keep a person's regular TB. Also keep in mind that they may not have it. They could have lost it and not known how to mark it missing. They could have dropped it in a cache and not known how to log it. Or perhaps they totally forgot they have it because they don't cache anymore. Most of my missing trackables fall into that category, I think. There are collectors who take Jeeps and coins, but I think most trackables go missing accidentally.
  6. Mission received from DJ J Rock's daughter Zariah! In addition to a fantastic Cache Across America coin (shown on the left side of the picture) Jay and Zariah included a variety of tokens, pins and patches, some of their unique signature items, and a great picture drawn by Zariah. They also sent a lovely china plate, part of the Norman Rockwell series. And I think everything must smell like their new puppy, because our cat Twitch was very helpful unwrapping the parcel and inspecting the contents. Thanks Jay and Zariah, and thanks to ELTADA for hosting this mission. Now we don't feel like mission newbies anymore.

    Help!

All coin owners appreciate your efforts to replace the lost coin. I wish everyone was as conscientious. Check on ebay once in a while, too, in case one comes up for sale. Good luck!
  8. I actually gasped out loud when the picture came on my screen. What a stunningly beautiful coin! I can't wait.
  9. 1. Participating - email sent Feb 25, on behalf of our cat Twitch (can't let the dogs have all the fun!) 2. Received Name - I think so. Bruce got an email at home titled Happy Easter, from someone with something like "lovelace" in the sender box. He assumed it was one of those bigger-harder-longer emails and deleted it (good boy!), but then for some reason went back and opened it. He says it's not a bad email, it's about Twitch, so I assume it's our mission email. Close call there . 3. Mission Complete - 4. Mission Arrived! -
  10. I added this to the list but you will have to change the Look Twice geocoin in your title to Todie's Widl Ride. Thanks, I think I've got it right, but if you could check that would be great. TB2QA7D
  11. Here's our new coin that we won in DJ J Rock's bike picture cointest: TB2QA7D Look Twice Geocoin: Give Me Some Space Whenever we ride our bicycles on the highway it's a terrifying experience. Cars and trucks kick up debris that hurts like you-know-what when it hits you, garbage and ruts on the road are hard to swerve around (there must be a billion dead bungy cords on the highways), and the wind-wake from big trucks can blow you right off the road. If vehicles could change lanes when they pass and leave us lots of space we'd really appreciate it. Thanks for the cointest DJ J Rock; it will be fun watching this coin travel.

  13. Hey, how cool is that! We just won our first cointest ! Thanks DJ J Rock for the cointest, and for making a very cold and snowy day a lot brighter. Email to follow. I loved reading everyone's stories. I wish we could all chip in and buy BoatBird a new scooter. I nearly cried when I read that story, because the love and heartache came through so strongly. Thanks. Edit to add congratulations to ModelCitizen, too. That first photo is breathtaking, and it's also a very pretty bike!
  14. Sorry to go OT here, but thanks to LadyBee4T for educating those of us who aren't bikers. If we ever see helmets on the shoulder, we'll stop! And to keep it on topic, thanks for the cointest .
  15. OK, one more entry! Some of the unsafe or missing trestles on rail trails have been replaced by smaller, less expensive bridges, but in a few cases trail managers been more creative. We are NOT bungy jumping sky diving kind of people, so this little river crossing was a huge adventure for both of us! You load your bike on the rack, climb in the basket, and gravity whooshes you down to mid-river. The you pull on the rope to haul the basket up to the other side, climb out and send it back for the next cyclist. It was so much fun we went back and forth several times before getting on our bikes and cycling away.
  16. It sounds like you'll be an excellent Hotel Manager . Regular cache maintenance is especially important for Hotels, to make sure the cache is still well hidden, still waterproof, and doesn't have any TBs that have been there too long.
  17. Here's a picture of Bruce with his bike, and a story about his "oops!" a few years ago. We like to cycle old railway lines that have been converted into trails, because the hills are never very steep. We usually start at the downhill end of a trail, cycle up the gentle grade until mid-afternoon, then turn around and coast downhill back to the truck. On the Galena Trail in the mountains of British Columbia we were coasting back down through a rather tricky spot where you had to zig around a few obstacles (railings, bridges, rocks) on the trail. I was in the lead and noticed it was pretty quiet behind me. I stopped and looked back - I was alone. I turned around and cycled back up the trail, calling for Bruce every so often. Finally I heard swearing and moaning and thrashing of bushes. I found him about ten meters down the side of the mountain, trying to untangle himself from the Devil's Club that had stopped his descent. He had taken his eyes off the track for a few seconds and wham!, he rode right into an old railway tie that was protruding from the side of the trail. The bike stopped; he didn't. He cut his leg on something, and cracked his bike helmet, and had lots of scrapes and bruises, but was still mobile. Miraculously so was his bike. We wiped off the worst of the blood from his wounds and slowly carried on down the trail. Then when we were about half an hour from where we'd parked the truck a black bear appeared on the trail right in front of us. The mountain rose steeply to our right, and dropped off straight down to a lake on our left, with nowhere for the bear to go except along the trail. Normally when we come upon a bear we use common sense and leave the area, but poor Bruce wasn't feeling too good, and we had absolutely no intention of going back uphill, so we chased that poor bear all the way down the trail. Every time he'd stop to look back at us we'd stop and yell and wave our arms to make him run again. Eventually he came to a gully up the side of the mountain and scampered up and out of sight, no doubt grateful to escape the crazy cyclists.
  18. I've never ridden on a motorcycle, so here's a picture of me with my mountain bike. It's lying in the water because I was trying to cross the stream without getting my feet wet. I almost made it across, too! Bruce was pretty handy with the camera when I wiped out, of course, and I didn't get a lot of sympathy for my bruises and scrapes.
  19. Pretty good, as long as it says "unactivated". Most of the sellers have great ratings and as long as you don't get caught up in the thrill of bidding, you can get a nice coin for a fairly reasonable price. I usually enter my maximum bid and then don't watch anymore, otherwise I'm tempted to go higher if I'm overbid. If someone else wins, oh well, I know another one may come along tomorrow. Delivery is about two weeks, sometimes less. Almost all say "HTF" or "Sold Out", but some are still available from the vendor for less money, so if you see a coin you like do a google search to find the vendor and check for availability before you bid. Have fun!
  20. Definitely something fishy there. I suspect the coins aren't actually in the cache. There have been rare instances of disturbed individuals taking as many coins and TBs as possible and logging them into a cache, but then just destroying the bugs. I hope that's not the case here.
  21. Jay, repeat after me - Zariah got a mission with a frog coin, Zariah got a mission with a frog coin, Zariah got... (and I think it's called the Treefrog Geocoin).
  22. Since looking at everyone's photos is half the fun of a mission, you'll have to learn how to post photos . Avatar instructions are posted at the top of the Getting Started forum section in the pinned topic AVATAR TESTING and INSTRUCTIONS, TEST POSTING AREA - ALL TEST POSTS HERE PLEASE. It's really handy because you can test your attempts and no one watches or cares if you mess up. Thanks to DJ J Rock for reminding us that you can post photos there and use them for forum postings. I use Photobucket, but this might be handier.
  23. ...not another cache buried in a hole dug in the ground. I don't intend to spoil everyone's fun by reporting them, because if the logs are any indication they're big favorites, but they annoy me. We've even found a TB Hotel that was buried .
  24. The box says "Numis" on the lid, but that's the only identifying mark. The trays come with compartments of several sizes - I have two trays that hold 15 regular coins and two trays that hold 12 large coins. There are trays with smaller compartments, too, I think. Four trays per box, so a box only holds about 60 coins. If my collection ever gets as large as Sweetlife's, I'll need a LOT more boxes!
  25. could you post a photo? this sounds way better than my cardboard boot box. do you still keep the coins in plastic flips? does the box have a manufacture name? rsg I'll try to get a photo tonight. I take them out of the flips. And I'll check for a name on the box. Hopefully it wasn't on the packaging that I threw away. As Scavok mentions, there are coin displays for sharing and coin displays for hoarding; this box is for hoarding. Plastic binder sheets or foam cutouts are probably safer for taking to events.
