  1. Is it Rocky? Thanks for the cointest!
  2. Very lovely coin! I keep telling myself I don't need any more coins, but then an irresitable coin like this comes along.
  3. Birthday mission email sent: April 3 2009 Birthday mission name received: April 6 2009. Now for the fun part - the shopping! Birthday mission sent: Birthday mission received:
  4. Here are pictures of Twitch with the mission goodies he got last week. Thanks again lorca.nl! He loves to chew plastic, so of course he gave the wrapping a thorough slobber while I was trying to take this picture: Bruce had to hold Twitch out of the way so I could take this picture, because he wasn't finished sniffing everything yet: Here's Twitch wearing his new collar. All the excitement must have worn him out, because I could not get a picture of him sitting up nicely:
  5. Missions are as addictive as geocoins, so I'm signing up for a June birthday. Birthday mission email sent: April 3 2009 Birthday mission name received: Birthday mission sent: Birthday mission received:
  6. And sometimes the numbers are very tiny - hard to see and even harder to read. If you type it in and nothing comes up, make sure you're correctly reading the zeros and Os, ones and Ls, threes and eights and Bs, etc. Unactivated geocoins are even rarer to find in caches than are activated ones. If you want to start a collection, just watch here in the coin forums for new coins to go on sale, or remints, and check out the pinned link at the top of the coin forum page for a list of vendors who sell coins. There is also ebay. You might also try to win a coin in a cointest. There are lots of coins out there!
  7. Wow, that copper is gorgeous. With one other exception I'm not usually a huge copper fan (and I can hear most of you thinking "what, is she nuts!?") but that one is a must-have.
  8. Twitch's first mission: 1. Participating - email sent Feb 25 2. Received Name - March 4 3. Mission Complete - sent March 24 4. Mission Arrived! - arrived here yesterday, April 2! Wow, only a week to come all the way from The Netherlands! Thanks lorca.nl for all the great goodies! Twitch kept sniffing the parcel all day, but Bruce wouldn't help him open it until I got home from work. Then he suggested we wait until Easter to open it, but Twitch and I overruled him. Well, we didn't want the chocolate to spoil, did we? Twitch loved the plastic wrapping, and it was hard to take pictures because he was so intent on chewing the plastic. Inside the wrappings were two kinds of kitty treats (the labels were in Dutch, but there were pictures of a kitty on the packages so we assumed they were for Twitch ) and two kinds of chocolate treats (no picture of a kitty on the packages, so Bruce and I had those for desert - Belgian chocolate, yummm!). There was also a really cute leopard-print collar for Twitch, a kitty toy, a lorca.nl signature wooden clog, a little cat ornament, and of course two wonderful coins - a When Pigs Fly coin and a gorgeous green Earth Turtle. I took a bunch of pictures of Twitch with his goodies but can't post them until Monday (dial-up internet), but in the meantime thanks so much to lorca.nl for the fantastic package of Easter goodies, and to Zazth for hosting this Mission. It's just like Christmas in April!
  9. With dozens of coins on someone's wish list, what are the odds that two of us would both send that someone the same coin! At least the treats are different .
  10. They probably blew the package to smithereens! I've not done any trading, but of the three missions I've completed only two were successfully received at our end, so I did hesitate before signing up for another one recently. Maybe I'm a bit naive still, but I assume the coin I didn't receive was actually sent, but just went missing in the Christmas mail crush. On the other hand, I never received an email from whoever sent it, asking me if it arrived OK. Although I find it hard to believe that anyone would be slimy enough to intentionally try for free coins by signing up for missions, or by not making good on trades, or by pretending their gift never arrived, I guess coiners are no different than other people, and a little caution is wise.
  11. Hey, you had me for a few seconds! I thought "Oh, no, I wonder what the coin looked like?" and clicked on the first post to see it. Oh. Happy April Fools!
  12. That's a tough question, because I'm mostly an impulse shopper and don't subscribe to any of the coin clubs. But I seem to bid on almost every Tsun-designed coin that comes up for auction, and several of my purchases turned out to be your designs without me knowing it, so it would be tempting to sign up. But here's a question for you - would it still be fun for YOU if you had to put out a new coin on a schedule? If artist's block (or whatever it's called ), mint problems, family obligations, and other unforseen issues meant that putting out a coin on time was stressful, then you might regret starting the whole thing. The last thing we want is for the Tsun to burn out, leaving all us Tsun worshippers out in the cold!
  13. For me it depends on why I want the coin. If it's a coin that might make a nice gift for a mission, cointest, FTF, or event, then it needs to be unactivated. But if it's a coin just for ME, then having an activated coin actually increases the value, because the coin now has a story with it. In this case, the Save Walter story makes the coins just a little more special.
  14. I've never seen any coins like that, but we did find a TB once that was looking for its other half. The lock was released in South Africa and the key in The Netherlands. They are now in Wisconsin and North Carolina, so maybe there is hope for someone winning the prize by reuniting them. Very cool mission!
  15. Twitch's first mission (and first dog friend, too!): 1. Participating - email sent Feb 25 2. Received Name - March 4 3. Mission Complete - winging its way south in today's mail, hopefully it will arrive by Easter 4. Mission Arrived! -
  16. Mine arrived in yesterday's mail. Wow! It's hard to decide which one I like best, and even Mr. BP liked these coins. Absolutely beautiful.
  17. Wow, die_anita is going to be on a chocolate high for quite a while !
  18. 1. Keep looking. 2. Try sending another email. 3. The owner's profile shows he posts mainly in the Mid-Atlantic forums, so post a "trying to contact vanm" message there and hope for a response. Good luck!
  19. Here's a picture of Twitch helping Bruce read the newspaper. Cats love paper! We never thought of ourselves as cat people until this kitty moved in. He was a stray that I'd found a home for, but then the new owner had to move and gave him back to me. I couldn't take him to the SPCA, so we kept him for a while until I could find another home for him. After a week or two I just accepted that we were it! He must have had a tough life when he was young, because he's afraid of children, dogs, most cats, boxes, and laundry baskets.
  20. I think several missions never arrived, so maybe they were one of the unlucky ones. Our Easter mission is wrapped up and ready to mail, except for the most important part - the coins! I bought a couple of coins that were on our recipient's seeking list, but they haven't arrived yet. Waiting is the hardest part.
  21. Occasionally you can find unactivated coins as first-to-find or next-to-find gifts in caches, but most coins are bought or traded for. You can also win coins here in the forums, by entering the cointests. It's a great way to get to know all the coin collectors, have fun, and maybe win something. Welcome to the obsession!
  22. And there's a coin on eBay that you might like ham radio geocoin
  23. Or perhaps Walter really is a "he" and is tired of being called a "she", and being a male he instinctively knows just what to do to cause the most hurt . It's hard to decide which is more forlorn looking - Walter (with that trail of footprints sadly walking away) or the poor old Dixie Inn in the background. Nice coins, so I couldn't resist bidding on one. Hope it helps.
