I've noticed that quite a few people have maps showing what states they've cached in on their profile. You know, the gray colored USA with some states in red? How do I get that to show up on my profile?

Pretty shepherd! I see you're in Anderson, so that's not too far away. Maybe we'll run into ya out at a cache sometime!

Now THAT'S an unbelievabaly cute dog!!! Abby is blushing, Patrick! she might be blushing, but she's about the cutest thing! You'll have to be careful when she's out caching with you - you end up finding a bigger ammo can, and you might end up accidentally shutting her in the cache when you leave! She's cute, but she's hitting that age where she's a bit rebellious! Grrrrrr....

I know I'm late, but thought I would add my input. Have carried a gun in the past, but not for a few years. After a recent run in with a couple of guy smoking pot near my truck (I was walking back after finding a cache), I'm going to start carrying again. As long as your legal, safe and responsible, I'm all for carrying.

Taking this one back to the top, as Abby had her first day of caching last weekend. Just got the film developed (still in the middle ages and using a 35mm) so I thought I would share this picture. It turned out so good! We weren't sure how well she would do out in the woods, since her legs are shorter than my thumbs!!! But Abby did really well and stayed ahead of the pack most of the time!

My "el Diablo" Hiking Staff
TEAM RETRIEVER replied to teepeeayy's topic in General geocaching topics
I'd be very tempted to make my own stick (most pre-made sticks are too short to suit me) but I don't have any idea where to get the "blank" to make it from. I don't know of any places in this area where I could get a suitable stick to start with. Go to... Treeline USA They have walking stick blanks and materials. Read about this site in one of El Diablo's articles. -
Oh, and tell Patrick I'll buy the first beer!
-
Patrick never buys, Captain. He asked me to tell you to keep a sharp lookout today for his new cache. his first solo effort. He trots into the woods with the cache in his mouth and returns about ten minutes later... located in territory familiar to you. I'm not sure I would trust his coords, tho... LOL! I'll be looking for it! Think I'll do a bit of caching today, since the sun is out. Gotta enjoy a bit of it before going into work this afternoon....
-
Did ya enjoy the swim, Patrick? Hope you enjoyed that cache and took the old man's picture! While I don't know any of you personally, I've been following this and wanted to congratulate those of you who hit your milestones!!! LeadDog asked me to tag along on this one, but alas, work and family obligations had their influence. One of these days I'll get to share a beer with Patrick.....

I think most cachers know that.... 1) The pictures will be posted on the cache page and don't have a problem with that. 2) When looking at images in that caches gallery, there may be spoilers. I would post 'em. Then come back here and let us know what cache it is, so we can check them out! I love geocaching pictures! TEAM RETRIEVER just hid our first cache with a camera in it. In the cache's description page I noted that we would be posting the pics in the gallery. Might be a good idea for future caches.

We made sig cards on the computer and then just bought a cheap laminator (sp?) at Wal-Mart. Easy to make and cheap!!!!!!

Just wanted to share that if you decide you want a LARGE ammo can, check out this website. Do a search for "ammo can" and see what ya get. It's an auction site, much like ebay. Seen one can on there that was 31" high (120mm can) and was selling for $12 plus shipping!!! Think of the swag you could put in that puppy!!!! Gunbroker.com

I prefer to cache with my wife and three daughters. Time spent outdoors, with my family, is the best! However, it's also a nice change of pace to cache either alone or with just my wife. As long as I'm caching, I'm happy!!

Geocaching Charms For Bracelets...
TEAM RETRIEVER replied to TEAM RETRIEVER's topic in General geocaching topics
Yep, that's the one. Just sent you a message. Thanks! -
Seen an italian charm or whatever they're called (sorry, I'm a man and am clueless to this stuff) on ebay, but it sold before I could bid on it. Anyone know where I can get one or two of these? My wife would love one!! Thanks in advance for the help!
-
Yeah, that's important!!!! Teach 'em to trade up or even!!!!! You'll be surprised (and a bit disappointed) at how many caches you'll find with junk in them.

I've got an Etrex Legend and am very happy with mine. I also hunt and fish quite a bit. I'm a newbie myself, but I can give you some advice on taking the kids. DON'T OVERDUE IT THE FIRST DAY!!!! LOL! We took our girls out last September and I had 10 caches printed off for us to find. Well, we had a blast and found all ten, but the kids were so burnt out they didn't want to go again for a few months. I would just find 3 or 5 caches your first day out and leave them wanting more. Also, to help pump the kids up, here is great project to do before you go out. We did this and the girls had a blast (ages 15, 11 and 7).... Go to www.geocaching4kids.com and click on "Ideas, school projects, etc.". Then click on "Make your own walking stick". We had a lot of fun making these simple sticks for the kids. Best of luck and happy caching! Let us know how it goes!

Character they've got, but the deal with the hiking staff is technique. You adjust them to armpit level and put your weight on the wrist strap and, unless you're doing something particularly treacherous, only gently hold the grip. This allows you to put quite a lot of your weight onto the pole(s) over the long haul, using your whole arm and shoulder to push off. If you try serious weight bearing with a regular stick, all your effort goes into making a fist around the stick. It really is amazing how useful this is, though I haven't been able to master two poles. Being a naturally clumsy and physically inept sort of person. Yeah, I'll give you that AuntieWeasel! LOL! If I was going backpacking and doing a lot of rough terrain/ice, I would definitely use a trekking pole.
-
Nice stick! What did you use to do the carving/writing/engraving?
-
I use a walking stick that I made myself. It's really not that hard to make one (unless you get fancy with it) and I think they have more character than the store made trekking poles. Just my opinion!

Our family is TEAM RETRIEVER and we started keeping a small journal at home for the kids to write about their cache finds or whatever. Kind of neat to read what they write. LOL!
