  1. That helps a lot! Thanks everyone!!!!!!!!!!!! I knew I could count on geocachers to help me out!
  2. Aaaahhhh...pocket queries! Gotcha! I've never tried that, but just set my first one up as you suggested. Thanks! Has anyone been to the Gatlinburg area and have a cache that they particularly enjoyed though?
  3. My family and I are going on vacation in July. Need some suggestions on caches in the Gatlinburg area. I did a search on the forums here, but I have another thing to add... I need some caches that the kids will enjoy. Their ages are 15, 11, and 8 (all three girls). The youngest one, "Pup", doesn't enjoy bushwhacking much. She will do some light hiking, but that's about it. So, can anyone suggest some kid-friendly caches? I'm not too interested in the micros in town. Thanks in advance!
  4. It's like this... If and when I take my rain gear along, it stops raining. If I leave it home, a tempest will rise out of nowhere and send buckets of rain down upon me when I'm farthest away from the truck. Never fails (smile). I have some Frogg Toggs rain gear that I wear for caching. Lightweight and breathable, but doesn't hold up to briars very well.
  5. Congratulations, Car54!!! TEAM RETRIEVER is approaching our 100th find and I can't wait. Got a long ways before we hit 500 though (smile)!
  6. Just wanting to hear about some geocaching vacations. By this I mean a vacation you took in which the MAIN REASON for going was geocaching! Not just a vacation where you happened to do some geocaching one day or so. Anyone ever plan a vacation for geocaching? Who here can say they went on the longest geocaching vacation?
  7. Looks like Abby has her own account now. Patrick, did you have anything to do with this?!!? In that first picture I posted above, where Chris is giving instructions, look closely. Does anyone else notice that BuddaMan is the only one NOT paying attention? LOL!
  8. Going to try and post a few pictures from the Spring Picnic. Let's see if I can do this right... Chris of TEAM SHYDOG gives instructions.... Geocaching Cupcakes (and TEAM RETRIEVER'S favorite dessert of the day!).... Cute little white puppy on top of great big gray rock (it was great to finally meet you, Patrick).... Some geocachers at a cache... Cachers on the trail... Pretty dog.... Some chubby dork putting coordinates into his GPS (that's me!)...
  9. Thought I would start a thread specifically for the Spring Picnic, since "Goldie" and I just got home from it. This is the place to post pics and talk about the event. This was our first geocaching event and we had an AWESOME time!!!!!!! Thanks to TEAM SHYDOG and all who helped to make the event run so well! And a special thanks to whoever made those cupcakes (smile)! LOL!
  10. "Goldie" is in the kitchen making appetizers as we speak. We're excited! We didn't make the campfire, but will be out at Hanging Rock in the morning and then on to the... SPRING PICNIC!!! YAHOOOOO!!!!
  11. I'll show you my scars if you'll show me yours! MY FRONTAL LOBOTOMY... That is just wrong on so many levels!!!! LOL!
  12. An update for Patrick, since he wanted to meet the little doggie of TEAM RETRIEVER this coming weekend.... Abby won't be GEOCACHING in INDIANA anytime soon due to her surgery. She's got stitches (staples, actually) and will be resting for a bit. Sorry, Patrick!!!! She sends you and the other GEOCACHING dogs a heart fealt "YAP-YAP" and hopes to meet you all very soon. It just won't be this coming weekend.
  13. First off I'm NOT gay. Secondly you were OK going out caching alone & unarmed until you thought someone of the same sex thought you were attractive. Now you think you should bring a gun or club in case someone else of the same sex makes the same mistake? That's not homophobic? Are you sure? Do yourself a favor and leave the gun at home. Wrong. I was OK going out caching alone at 1 p.m. in the afternoon, during a week day, until I was followed into the woods and then followed in my truck. I've been "approached" by homosexuals before and never had a problem. In the past they always left me alone when I politely turned them down. This time the guy was too persistent for me to be comfortable. As for the gun, we won't go there. That's a whole different can of worms that has been discussed in these forums before and I don't see the point in discussing it here. To each his own. In the meantime, I just think gays, hetrosexuals, barnyard sodomy lovers and whoever else need to keep their stuff out of the public places so that the responsible public can enjoy the areas for what they were meant to be used! Can I get an "Amen"?!!?
  14. Seems to me, that to the average wiener dog a street curb would be a pretty good leap. Abby's not here, but if she was, she would say.....GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!! Sounds like this picnic is going to the dogs! Cool!
  15. The activity takes place at all hours of the day and night. I was chased down and assaulted right at mid-day, near the cache I was logging in a well-kept suburban park. Watching the GPS and minding my own business was a BIG mistake. I've since learned to become more aware of my surroundings, and less trusting that people will leave me alone. I also carry pepper spray. APPLAUSE!!!! Very well put, Leprechauns!
  16. I am SO resisting the urge to post the PROPER response to this one in the context of this thread... LOL! I walked right into that one, huh! Or backed into it... Eewwwwww...

  18. Patrick, nice picture! Must be a beautiful location! A friend of mine got a turkey about 100 yards from that cache last week.
  19. TEAM RETRIEVER is going to try and make the morning climb up hanging rock. However, no promises Patrick. I work second shift and don't get out of bed very easily! LOL! FYI Patrick...Abby is having surgery today. Getting her fixed before she meets you for the first time! HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!!! Just teasing! Well, kind of. That's what she's having done, as well as getting her hernia repaired. However, it was planned far in advance of the picnic (well, almost). She might not be up to coming down Saturday, but we'll see. Keep your paws crossed! "Goldie" and I are looking forward to our first geocaching event. Going to be fun! Hopefully the weather will cooperate.
  20. Okay, going to bring this back to the top. I had purchased the MountainSmith Pack a while back and used it on a 12 mile hiking/geocaching adventure. I LOVED IT! At the time I had a 35mm camera and used it to take a picture of my pack (weird, I know). Shortly after that, we bought a digital camera and the film just sat in the 35mm camera. Well, I FINALLY got it developed and laughed when I seen these pics. Figured I would post one of my beloved pack. By the way, I've used this pack quite a bit in the past five or six months and have ZERO problems with it. It fits perfect and is very rugged....
  21. Well, I have had the same problem. I parked at a trailhead at our local DNR property (didn't back in though), got out of my truck and started walking. A guy pulled up, rolled down his window and started talking in a very direct way. I kind of ignored him and started walking in on the trail to find the cache. The guy then got out of his car and started following me. I simply turned around and walked back to the truck, totally ignoring him as I walked past. That should have been the end of the story, right? Well, I drove down the county road a bit towards another cache location. As I was driving, I looked up in the rear view mirror and the dude is following me! He was driving a small car so I floored it and put some space between us. After about five or six miles, he finally got the hint (or so I thought), stopped and turned around. I drove around a bit and thought he was gone for good, so I headed back to the original trailhead to find that first cache. As soon as I got out of the truck, who do you think came pulling up in his little car? Yep, Mr. Happy himself. At this point I was beyond uncomfortable and just plain p*ssed off. I got back in the truck and left some tread from my tires on the pavement as I left. I would like to think he got the hint, but I doubt it. Now I am sure to carry one of two (if not both) things. I have my handgun permit and sometimes take it with me when going by myself. But I ALWAYS carry my home made walking stick with me. It's made of seasoned hickory and would do quite a number on anyone. I do hope that any gay cachers won't take this as being homo-phobic (sp?). That's not it. Nor am I for/against that choice or lifestyle. I just think these people could figure out a better place than public locations for this stuff. Gee, I have an idea...how about AT HOME? Okay, I'm done ranting now! LOL!
  22. Sorry I haven't checked this thread up until now. I trip is getting close (only a couple of weeks) and I thought I would bump this to the top. Oh, and no, we won't be coming down I-95.
  23. Item #9 in the agenda (the link may be time dated since it refers to the 'current agenda' and not specifically to the Nov. agenda. Perhaps they are going to carry over the discussion to the next meeting? http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/pdf/InfoBul..._Geocaching.pdf Oops! Nevermind! I just seen that.
