  1. I just recently purchased a Cingular 8125 running Windows Mobile 5.0. With my old smartphone, I converted my files to html using GSAK and viewed them that way, but I think there is a better way using PPC. I came across GPXSonar, but it says that its only compatible with ppc2003 and wm2003. So, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for viewing caches on a WM5 device or PPC (what is the difference anyways?!) and the best software to do so. Thanks for any ideas
  2. docdigit All I had with me was my GPS, which just had the name of the cache and the diff/terrain, it had no further notes. So, when I saw it was a couple miles away, I decided to try to hit it. After finding my turn I realized that it was a park that had a name which I was familiar with. Also, had assumed it to be a state park. So, I know thats pretty much a no go being that they usually close at dusk. I was already getting pulled over before I even time to think. One of the first things I did was apologize about being in there past dusk, because I thought it was a state park by the name, and there was a point where I had mentioned state park so many times that he just said, "MISS ... It's a County park." I'm not sure how the hours work on either, but I a** U ME they both close at dusk. He never did tell me, actually. My husband was also there and agrees on how blantantly rude this man was.
  3. Yes, that is what he said. I've encountered nicer officers when I HAVE done something wrong. Oh and he *assured* me, there was nothing hidden in that park. (ya know how insistent those crazies can be ) *printing out brochures*
  4. I was on my way home from visiting family in the hospital. armed only with my Vista C (which only contains pretty much the coords and the difficulty/terrain), I decided to hit one of the close ones. Cruising the backroads, being a native of only 20 miles away, I never been to this area. I Pull into the "park", not even 200 feet into it, lights flashing, the whole deal. I get extremely nervous around cops, for some reason, even though I was not guilty of anything. I did not even get far enough into the park to see (or assume) it had closed at dusk. He asks me what I am doing. I stuttered something about geocaching - was sooo nervous, wishing I had printed out those brochures - he looked at me like i was totally insane. He made me feel like I was lying! He took my information and checked it out, and came back and told me, "Go play your little game someplace else." It is kinda sad, that most of us who are nocturnal have to worry about getting caught at night. But, I guess I would wonder too, if I saw someone creeping around with a flashlight! I just didn't even get that far! Either our cops are really on the ball, or really bored. Just had to rant
  5. I did a PQ and added 200 waypoints to my Vista via GSAK. When I click it in the GPS, I see very basic information. Coords, *most* of the name, etc. I thought there was a way to set it up where it would tell me the terrain rating and difficulty right in the GPS and maybe some other details? Was I dreaming this up or was I reading a paperless caching thread? Thanks for any info
  6. I have the MPX220, which is a Smartphone, which means there is Windows on it. Its really nice because I can convert my GPX files to HMTL and store them on the phone. Smaller than a PDA and it always worked out for me wonderfully. I have added 512MB card and it doubles as an MP3 player, and has internet access. Plus, its which Cingular which has pretty decent coverage. Ask around in your area to see if you get recommendations on the best coverage. A lot of people say Verizon have the better coverage in my area, but I hardly ever lose coverage in an area that nobody else does.
  7. I tried to do a master reset, but it didn't seem to do much good if the unit didn't power on, having exhausted all of my options (other than sending it to Garmin to be overhauled for 60$), I banged it off the arm of my computer chair a couple times and IT TURNED ON!! IM SO HAPPY, I WANNA GO CACHE! I have a Vista C on my xmas list, so this just needs to last a few weeks
  8. Well, I just got a 20 pack of batteries (Duracell) from Wally World, changing from that pack doesn't help. I also changed from a flashlight that shone brightly, which were Energizers. I tried moving the metal connectors some, didn't seem to help .. also there is a graphic underneath where the batteries go, indicating the right way to put them in, so I think I am OK there. Also, there is no corrosion, looks perfect where the batteries go. Thanks for the help, though
  9. I've had an eTrex yellow for years now (5 years)? I used it on a 5 hour road trip a couple weeks ago. I put it in a drawer, and today went to turn it on and nothing I tried to switch out the batteries and tapping it to no avail. What I want to know is if my GPS is dead. Is there anyway to operate on it? I saw a post about someone taking apart a Vista. I just don't get how it can just poof on me just sitting in a drawer. Thanks for any help
  10. I just wanted to update that I notified the cache owner, and she not only looked for it for me , but found it and offered to mail it to me! She wants nothing from me, only to pay it forward. Geocachers rule
  11. oh geesh! I was in the car too long (and suffering after seeing dolphins lose 22-0 after drivin that far!) to remember the .10 rule DOH! just was tryin to make it more fun ill be ok maybe oh and in case anyone was wondering .. it was a Miami Dolphins hat (color and style they don't seem to make anymore) .. in Cleveland .. in about a thigh high pile of leaves
  12. I went to a cache pretty far away from my home (~370 miles) and lost an item of sentimental value. While it is of little or no value to anyone but me, is there a way to make a cache to get it back as opposed to just posting in the forums? I think it would be a fun thing to do, offering a reward + cost of shipping, etc. It was extremely near coordinates of said cache and I know exactly where it is. I just couldn't find it in the dark and had to leave. It is in a very public place and will be found eventually if someone doesn't find it soon. Thanks for any insight on this
  13. I have to throw out there, being a lil biased, that Shelties RULE!! heh Ours is quite the trailblazer and always seems to know the right way outta the woods. There is one drawback, though:
  14. oh oh oh I'm glad I saw this post This icon business has been driving me nuts for some time now. All I want is a very simple black outline fox lookin thing. The fewest details possible to make it look foxlike. This was the original image: This is what I butchered it to: But, that is some idea of what im trying to accomplish. I want pretty much a tail and a head to make a circle or something like a tribal drawing, but I suck at drawing heads and pretty much anything else lol. Thanks for any help
  15. I was reading this one today, right near me. As if the description wasn't creepy enough, read the logs! SUSCON SCREAMER!!!
  16. I have taken my dog on every cache so far As long as you keep em leashed, and clean up after him, I don't see a problem. Although my dog is a dog that originates from mountainous regions, I get nervous around steep cliffs with him, not so much my clumsy husband
  17. hmm is this also where to find it on the eTrex yellow? I didn't seem to find it when looking through the menus, and googling didn't provide any answers either. Thanks
  18. how do you calibrate it? this just happened to me and it happened to be after I changed the batteries.
  19. Thanks for the welcomes! reveritt: There are plenty of trails to ride & hike, a lot of which I have. Just in a few weeks, though, I found a few more gems that I've never been to, practically in my backyard. Plus, theres the "hunt" now, that just makes it so much more interesting
  20. I bought a GPS a few years ago for no apparent reason, just for hiking, biking, etc. not even knowing something as this existed. Then I stumbled upon this site a few weeks ago, and I am ADDICTED. I found my first cache a little over a week ago, and now I am up to 10, YAY. I can't even believe there are so many in my area, cuz we don't have much of anything here in Northeast PA. I'm looking forward to trying to find every darn cache out there! Thanks to everyone who turned this into what it is now
  21. wow, thanks for the quick reply
  22. I am a premium member. Is there a way to download the .gpx files all at once to use in GSAK rather than downloading them one at a time? Kind of like the .loc files on the search pages? Thanks, Nicki
