  1. I fixed that (USAPhotoMaps can be opened multiple times if called from GSAK). On my webpage Doug Cox
  2. You can convert or append a route to a track, and you can edit a track to cut it into segments with a click of your mouse in USAPhotoMaps. Doug Cox
  3. Well, the 8 meters/pixel aerial photos in USAPhotoMaps look like your example, but the 1 meter/pixel aerial photos in USAPhotoMaps look like the example of TerraClient. One is newer than the other. Microsoft does update the data, but the only way to get new data is to delete the old data (you could just press the Delete key in USAPhotomaps and then download that screen, and if that tile looks new, you could press Ctrl-Delete to delete the whole row of photos and download a row of the new photos).
  4. I'm curious, too. What's the lat/lon of that aerial photo? Doug Cox
  5. I don't know why you had either problem. Try both again (try a different state). Email me at jdmcox@jdmcox.com if either problem still exists. Doug Cox
  6. And if there's one line that doesn't have the same number of digits after the &X= or &Y= as the other lines, delete it (there needs to be 4 digits after the &X= and 5 digits after the &Y=). But mainly, you should get the latest version (2.50) because its error reporting is more helpful.
  7. USAPhotoMaps can show the altitude of your house (with a little work on your part). And Keyhole can, too, although I can't figure out what unit of measurement it uses.
  8. USAPhotoMaps has allowed a transfer speed with a Magellan of 115,200 for a LONG time.
  9. MapSource worked fine for me last winter there.
  10. It's very similar to Keyhole, which you can download and view for free for 7 days. I think it's so big because it also includes the C# source code (and it reqires .net). It's very impressive. Their data server is down, because of too much traffic, and they say a bigger server will be available on Oct 5th. Right now you can only see a low-resolution view of the earth plus 1-meter old aerial photos and topo maps (like USAPhotoMaps has), but I think when the data server becomes available again, imagery like the Urban Areas available on TerraServer (and USAPhotoMaps) will become available. It took me about 30 minutes to download on a wide-band connection, and I'm glad I got it. The server (linked to in the first message, above) downloads the viewer (named World Wind) plus its source code pretty fast. Doug Cox
  11. Would anyone who tries it with their USB Garmin please let me know by email of any problems (I don't want this forum to get inundated with bug reports). Doug Cox jdmcox@jdmcox.com
  12. Before Garmin added a programming example in C, Ron Henderson, who wrote G7toWin, helped me out with the hard parts. He's an excellent programmer, and his G7toWin is VERY nice. He had it working with USB transmissions with his Garmin 2610 last Winter, and now it also works with my Garmin 96. You can read about it and get it from: http://gpsinformation.net/
  13. No it doesn't seem to lose data. I put the code on my website, and you can get it by putting http://jdmcox.com/USB.c in your browser's address line. It's pretty basic, and I intend to add to it, but it works on my Garmin GPSMap 96. Doug Cox
  14. If anyone wants it, I can supply simple C source code that gets a USB Garmin's identification from it using an asyncronous (OVERLAPPED) method. The rest is up to you.
  15. Trailgauge looks like what you want: www.trailgauge.com/
  16. I got one last month, and it's the best GPSr I've ever had (I've owned several)!
  17. The TerraServer Urban Area lat/lon coordinates are a little off in Texas (Houston and Dallas). USAPhotoMaps can't correct for their error, but maybe they'll fix it someday. Meanwhile, use the aerial photo lat/lon coordinates in Texas.
  18. CoyoteRed: I was tempted to add your php code to my website, but I tried it, and apparently my ISP's server (DotEasy) doesn't support php. If someone did put it on their server or home page, it would probably use up a lot of download allowance (jfitzpat's problem), but someone could write a very simple program to have it run from their computer and download the photo/topo to their hard drive...
  19. That's too bad lostoutdoors.com is closing - Jim Fitzpatrick did a great job with it. But there's another way to get a big aerial photo/topo from Microsoft's Terraserver website (beside using USAPhotoMaps). Just enter something like the following in your browser's address bar: http://terraserver-usa.com/GetImageArea.as...9&w=2400&h=2400 I checked, and the above URL address doesn't show up correctly here. Maybe if I put quotes around it (take the quotes out when using it): "http://terraserver-usa.com/GetImageArea.ashx?t=4&s=8&lon=-77.30820646&lat=38.87518279&w=2400&h=2400" But wait, if you copy it from here, there'll probably be a line break in it, and so the whole thing won't show up on the address bar. So copy it into Notepad, turn off wordwrap, and go to the end of each line and press Delete to get rid of the line breaks. URL addresses can't have line breaks or blank spaces in them. Then copy and paste the long line into the address bar. This particular address can be explained thus: t=4 means it's an urban area t=1 would mean it's a normal aerial photo t=2 would mean it's a topo image &s=8 means it's at 0.25 meters/pixel resolution &s=9 would mean 0.5 meters/pixel resolution &s=10 would mean 1 meter/pixel resolution and so on... note that only the urban area photos can go below 1 meter/pixel lon and lat are self-explanatory &w= and &h= means the data is 2400 pixels wide and 2400 pixels high So just insert whatever you want into the above sample and when you go to that address, if data exists for that location, you'll see it.
  20. USAPhotoMaps version 2.26 can download and show high-resolution, color urban area aerial photos.
  21. Sorry about that. It's a bug. Download USAPhotoMaps version 2.24 dated May 2, and the problem should go away. I kept the same version number because it was such a small, (almost) insignificant fix. Doug Cox
  22. Ref. the second post in this topic, USAPhotoMaps now allows you to change the color of any track segment.
  23. I don't know about Canada, but I do know that the elevation data for Mexico City looks good. My guess as to why there isn't anything showing for Mexico except very rudimentary highway lines is investment cost vs. expected income. Plus the fact that (at least in Mexico City), map data that's available isn't very accurate. I use Guia Roji (supposedly the best map source)when I'm in Mexico City, and comparing actual location lat/lon in my GPS with the lat/lon on my laptop with Guia Roji's lat/lon shows the Gui Roji coordinates off by up to several hundred meters. Guia Roji says they're using NAD83, so it's not a datum problem.
