  1. is it just me? where'd some of the photos go? ack! now they are back! i must stop watching stargate....
  2. hi ya, so maybe they should have gone travelling after all right? but no wear and tear - they sat looking cute in my tea chest in a nice mahogany cabinet, one time they came out of their little packets to get their photos taken handled with gloves (Greeenish laughs at me for those) I think it is mostly the plasticizer in the flips. the others were 2006 coins and it is in the pits of the gritty. Was hoping wrapping them in foil would stall things until i can find some display big enough to seal them in. or would leaving them out in the air be better? Putting a coat of clear sealer on? PS anyone else lost a solvognen to corrosion?

    OMG!

WAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!! i DID promise i would only have one of a coin and not get greedy and want every finish when i started collecting but when i was offered all the varieties of the Solvognen one was a special trade i melted and got one of each. so is it KARMA - I am looking at my collection sorting through what to keep what doubles to finally trade off and horror horror the flip has started eating them! even the gold one! OMG - can gold corrode??? but weirdly it was only those coins and then more horror - ack!!! Corrosion spots on a couple of other rare treasured coins that are gold and black nickel and from germany too. Where did they get their flips from? Or is it something else? I would like to put all my coins into inert holders but these were too big and the others too small and of course they seemed fine Advice help tea and sympathy, maniacal laughter - just don't make a geocoin celebrating this.
  4. well i'll top that and say i've seen a TB resurface recently after 3 years! I have just stuffed up a coin's movement myself actually so atone atone - some folk will be getting adoption notices! passing it on at an event is no guarantee - i have two really special coins i lost that way and i handed them over! faith faith life is an adventure and coins are replaceable - i thunk of a really nice way to make a replacement actually but haven't tried it yet; i'm waiting for the stuff to get here before i show it off!
  5. I'm also a letterboxer so I was watching this topic. oh gee they just had a big geocaching event in Mollala in november. Was wondering how did the boxes fare?!

  7. last time it was just coins in general trackable or not and the timeline was not necessarily ummm acccurate? http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=175655
  8. i can't see the Tb referred to yet but to answer peter's trio i think the pathtag people are also the biggest geocoin mint out there by their own count and so to make a different generic backside and offer it as an 'upgrade' to their many customers would be cheap and simple - they are familiar with the process of approval of the frontside design by GC and have no trouble with quantities of tracking numbers on hand to resell in smaller batches. there was a mid sized geotag from atwell family similar concept a small personal coin front generic back withahole that happened to be trackable on gc.com only I agree it is a lot to do with scale - even the choice of size between the coins really affects their design impact - I find 1.5 inches the most challenging size ( debate? ) and my favourite example of wow! from this size is worker of wood. It didn't want to be any bigger ( it's not trackable btw) The geocaching skills wold have benefitted from a size bump imho.
  9. so what is the status for these defunct vendors codes please?
  10. Hi MV A sign! you need a sign? this one made it to europe from pennsylvania and is still on the road http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=1101337 Sorry no progress on the cyphers but I have redone the blessed wiki ( tada - what one can do when one's arthritis is CURED - if anyone wants a hint check out the vitamin D cure by j dowd ) and added some things to the Davinci coins page that might help people get started who do not have a clue eg. meself! http://trackablegeocoins.wetpaint.com Images are hard to decypher unless you have seen them before eh? the screw press looks like a coffeepot Should we just all email the caching place and quack " we want a clue/solution coin." It is going to have to be a very heavy hint Dave! They might do a small reprint as well depending on demand - 50 posts should do it - that would be 150 coins in sets + say 100 new ones? I have emailed Jim Berk at info@thecachingplace.com and requested a courtesy call to his customers here.
  11. Interest isn't down - but the quality generally is just wait for the next delft v.! More coins moving down under - love seeing them in caches so yes they do travel!!! not all of them do it well, some are still far too cute so iuess there is a place for those not so ooh designs after all. There's a sort of happy medium i think which makes a good travelling coin. generally i see it improving as they get more common and more cachers know what they are and what to do with them - I like tb's but coins are still so much easier to carry and place.
  12. hi guys, hey i saw a coin of yours in one of my caches in sydney - so perhaps we crossed paths! I probably left that one somewhere as a prize or swap. It has no tracking number as it is meant as just a collectible - a small number were minted like that in various finishes and only sold with trackables or given away. The black and gold were exclusively available in australia. You could paint a tracking number on if you wanted or engrave it as it is an approved design if you wanted a trackable to release or i'm pretty sure someone will trade you for it! As you can see black is a lousy colour to handle - a quick swipe with eyeglass cleaner to get the fingerprints off might help. Anything too strong just takes the finish off be careful. http://cointracking.com/view_series.php?sid=545 one could try it on ebay - you never know what a collector will cough up and the www.platypus.asn.au would be grateful for a kickback
  13. It seems I can't edit my original post after a certain time frame as I did yesterday several 8 or 10 times, so I'll just do it this way. I have added a list of non profile coins and will spend more time updating that list soon. 'Hope Idaho' and 'don't fence me in' have been added to the list.... interesting profiles on both... The Dark Knight now has a profile and a v2 coin! good list - i've added the name and I'm shamelessly pinching everyones photos as i come across them to collate on the untrackable wiki - anyone can edit at the moment use the template provided and your facebook login but please try to keep the links non-commercial in the spirit of mystery coins Cache Reaper CreepyCrawlyCachers The Dark GeoKnight G. 15. thx guys - i think the only issue is me Oak only let you get it once through website. i suspect i have retrieved the codes before and just not put them in my database Newbs beware - a big pile of cards for coins now in acrylic holders but i didn't put the coin NAME on them just the numbers is not a good system.
  16. who has activation code 4 this one? ray&rose aka square bear geocoin it's not listed at hogcode.com which is the sleeve i got it in, and the number doesn't work at oakcoins which says they have the code.
  17. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=236196 has a nice link to a youtube vid GeoSnippits - Logging Geocoins and Travel Bugs Tutorial a handy little summary picture http://renzoscustomcache.blogspot.com/2009...aching-101.html
  18. I don't think i have released any this year as travellers, just dropped unactivated ones - my old ones are doing so well! Can i brag anyway? Some have returned to the fold as retirees. My favourite has got lost on it's mission by thousands of miles and turned up in Moominland where i would so love to go myself. I'll toss one out today and get back on topic
  19. ha - i had this sitting on the kitchen table and grandpa unstuck the sliding puzzle coin when he was over in Sep. he is an ex marine and has greater powers of persuasion CHQuality coins is closed for inventory so I don't know if they are making any more but i emailed them earlier and Tom said to do what i like with it soooo thought i might pop it up here if anyone wants to buy it I'll send you Tom's email and you can paypal him but send me the postage USD$4.50 anywhere. Preference given to local sale if there is more than one enquiry.
  20. ok some folk are weird - if i don't purchase insurance then i don't bug anyone for a coin that hasn't shown up. I have had one coin not show up from a private sale over the years - I asked he said he posted it and that was the end of the matter. And one trade - which i had no idea we had finalised! ack - I always triple check now and we trade tracking/activation codes by email ahead of the posted item. For ebay i'm photographing the coin anyway so it serves well enough as proof of postage - i have only ever had one international request for insurance and it delayed the coin for so long it was the slowest coin ever worried us both and added $10 to the purchase price. As for the activated returned coin please post the link to the coin vendors thread. No i'm not interested in insurance - not even for the most expensive coin i have ever purchased from ebay. I just checked the seller's reputation both on ebay and here. High postal prices are a definite inhibition to impulse purchases so you might cure my addiction - I'd buy more if the postage was better! oh PS. for my retail sales every code is listed against the buyers name and sent with the notice of shipment along with a time frame in which to expect delivery. I will also send you some private advice.
  21. at it's discretion the coin can be deactivated by Groundspeak and the activation code reused - this would only apply to the owner in exceptional circumstances so i do not think you need to worry - i don't think it can be used again otherwise, not to reset the place of starting. It might make the next finder think he has an unactivated coin though, rather than a traveller and swap for it. So if it hasn't got a mission note with it I'd print one out and send it on together.
  22. yes indeed - 1000 is a noble number. it is also quite unusual for a coinsandpins coin to have its mint run revealed in full. In the early days of GC.com trackables however i think the code requirements meant that was the standard min. purchase - although purchasing the codes did not mean one had to mint 1000 of one coin at once or even at all. It may account for why most older personal coins are untrackable.
  23. sorry this is a bit off topic but even though GC has most of the info somewhere it is obviously not always being accessed or retained "The only problem is........... getting everyone to see/read the tutorials, not just n00bs." suggestions 1. for noobs geocaching 101 is like a click through tutorial including trackables before you sign up - score 10/10 or no cacher nick 2. run a contest ( but if you are using trackables insist they are purchased even at a nominal fee or MOVED because so far the promotional trackable contests have been a big part of the problem! I don't know if the wording was obscure or whether the aims of the contest conflicted with moving the bug but i have yet to see a jeep of any colour in an actual cache let alone a garmin geocoin) 3. put the word out in the newsletter 4. put the word out on podcacher
  24. http://forum.geocaching.com.au/viewtopic.p...=28&t=12978 here's a real cacher in action with an early geocoin circa 2003 - believe! The canadian coin is going to be a top coinfuser because it carries the words www.geocaching.com not its own tracking site and GC does not admit these things exist. you can see from the post that the error message could be more helpful. this coin really deserves a hand - can someone think of a brief but useful error message - even more cheerful and useful than a standard microsoft BSOD number
  25. landsharkz.ca will work from a BAD pencil scribble - they show you on their website. I'm pretty sure this service is included in their pricing - the mint in china redraws everything you send them anyways. Otherwise hire any kid who is into computer graphics - antefix's son does a good job! Mine works for lollies ... sometimes even just because. We bought the rights to use a good photo and he clipped it out for me then taught me how to use his new paint program.
