  1. I personally would accept it. I accept logs like that anyway. It’s really up to the CO. If you can take a picture of yourself with the cache or the cache’s logbook, then that’s perfectly acceptable to me. Especially if you’ve previously mentioned that you’re physically unable to do so. Just because you're disabled shouldnt mean you cant play this wonderful game. I definitely wouldn’t be the person to tell you “no.”
  2. At least they logged that they couldn’t find it right? As a cache owner myself, I keep up with just about every log that comes in, especially for my EarthCaches. It helps a lot to weed through potential problems by posting a DNF, but I don’t find that it requires a DNF. What I like about Geocaching is that you can (pretty much) play the game how you see fit. If you want to find thousands of caches by doing nothing but power trails, or if you want to find really high quality caches over quantity, you can. Just like if you want to post a note instead of a DNF, you can. I see that you’re a relatively newer cache owner. Once you’ve owned caches for years, things like that will just stop bothering you. This is even furthered by the amount of caches you’ve hidden. I’m close to my 100th hide, 45 of which are EarthCaches. A simple note coming through saying they couldn’t find the cache when receiving logs every day, multiple times a day, really stops bothering you. At least that’s what happened to me.
  3. I’ve found a lot of stuff in caches that were likely not supposed to be there. It was definitely unexpected to open up that lock n lock to find it filled with ants attacking a piece of candy that someone wrongfully left. This one is a serious pet peeve of mine, especially because I own caches in bear country. Luckily it was just ants waiting to surprise me this time. I’ve also found condoms and tampons/pads. “Family friendly” just doesn’t seem to click with some I suppose. Aside from that, I haven’t really found anything too crazy... and I think I’d like to keep it that way lol.
  4. As an EarthCache owner myself, I hope that people actually learn something from them. If they demonstrate that they actually learned something, that’s fine with me. But how I decide whether or not to intervene on a “Found It” log is based on whether or not the answers are blantantly wrong or not. I offer help, but I’m the event they don’t respond, their log gets deleted. I think questions should be asked in a certain way. If you want a precise age of a rock, for instance, and assuming you could accurately tell the age based on the info provided on the cache page, I wouldn’t accept a wrong answer. If I asked “how old do you think this rock is?” I would accept any answer, so long as I got them to critically think about the question and the subject matter. Learning is what matters.
  5. I actually am an owner of an EarthCache "power trail." I've been reading through the posts here and I see one major concern among a lot of cachers, "are the ECs unique enough and do they provide accurate, and most of all, geologic, lessons?" My actual intention was not to set up a power trail, it sort of just happened that way. But I think the amount of ECs that I have quite close to each other provides a lesson in itself; just because you're in a city/suburb doesn't mean that the area is uninteresting geologically, in fact, it can be quite the opposite. Many lessons can be taught by a simple stream or creek.
  6. Every single Travel Bug I've ever released has gone missing. It's just something I won't waste the money on anymore. Geocoins are another story. I love collecting them.
  7. I completely agree. I really dislike the new dashboard as well.
  8. This is happening to me too. I have AT&T as well. This seems to be the issue as stated by moun10bike.
  9. I've received over 20 notifications for the same cache today. I have no idea why this is happening. Did they just stop for you?
  10. That's nothing. Wait til you see the cache log Notes, six months from now. It's been found over 20 times now. I can safely say there's a ton of puzzles in my area that are even harder than this. It uses guitar tabs. The first three notes from both sets of lyrics is the answer, excluding zeros.
  11. Thanks I do my best. I have a lot more in the works as well. I love geology so much, I'm really glad I get to teach people about the earth through EarthCaches, it actually means quite a bit to me to be able to contribute in that way. Who knows? Maybe it'll happen for me someday because of it.
  12. Thanks for offering! Yes, I do cover the entire State of CA, as well as OR, and WA, along with 6 or 7 other States. Currently there are zero submissions in my territory awaiting a Review, and zero submissions awaiting a second look after corrections. Of your 4 currently active Earthcaches, it appears I Reviewed all of them. All were Published on the same day that they were submitted. There are two additional Listings that you submitted and later Archived after I requested changes to bring them more in line with the Guidelines. I check the Earthcache Queue at least once a day, and more often twice a day. Looking just now, there are about a dozen Listings awaiting Review for the entire U.S., and just judging from the Titles I see, about 4 of those will need some work, or appear to have nothing to do with geology. Just based on my experience, the hold up of the Reviewing process is usually on the cache owner end of things. If it's a simple revision, like some minor wording issues, like you had in your case, it's usually pretty quick. If it's a rewriting issue, or permission from a land owner/manager issue, it can take longer. Of the Listings I have to reject, I usually only see about 1/3 come back with corrections and/or clarification. Thanks for contributing to Earthcaching! Oh wow. I'm embarrassed lol.. I didn't think you would see that. Well I guess I've upped my count of owned ECs since I posted that. I seriously appreciate your work! I hope you didn't think I was putting you down or anything. I just thought you needed a little lighter of a work load, but I'm glad you have it better than I thought. I absolutely love geology and Earth science. They were always my favorite classes in school (besides music class) and I learn about science in general, as much as I possibly can. When I learned that Earthcaches were a type when I started caching, I got extremely excited. I always try my best to make everything as scientific as possible when I create an Earthcache. I honestly wasn't trying to offer to be a Geoaware, although I'd love to be one, I doubt that it would ever happen. Especially after you stating the somewhat small amount of Earthcaches in the entire country waiting to be reviewed. However if I were offered, I would accept. I just want to thank you again for the work you do. I really appreciate it. If it weren't for you and other reviewers, the sport wouldn't be possible. You've had to sit through my long lessons more than a few times now, and I thank you greatly for that lol. You've taught me a lot too. I couldn't have asked for a better Geoaware for my area.
  13. I believe there's a need for at least another Geoaware in my area as well. As far as I know, there's only one in my whole state. I would personally love to be one. I have a vast knowledge of earth science and geology and it is a huge passion of mine. Every Earthcache I own was published on the first or second try and with minimal changes needed, like the way things were worded. Like you said, it takes a week or two to get it published and even longer when you have an issue. The Geoaware is also a regular reviewer for my area and he's the only one that does it as far as I know. One other occasionally but he hasn't published a cache around here in a long time.
  14. Well. I must say this was helpful. No one told you that you had to solve it or for that matter, even look at this forum post. Dont like it? Move on. That simple.
  15. I asked if you can solve it. That's it. Call it a bad cache, a "mind reading" or what ever. It's simpler than you think. You don't have to agree but that's the case.
  16. I'm no good at mind reading, and never would have looked for a specific web page in a million years. I have a vague plan of what I would do when I had the info, but it's a 5-star difficulty, so the sky is the limit for the complexity of the math and codes. Knowing "it's simple once you get the info" might prevent me from avoiding the puzzle completely, if that were stated in the cache description. So I pasted the listed coords into Certitude, and left. But if locals are great with puzzles, give them a chance to solve it. It looks pretty obscure to me. [RANT]One thing I can't stand is when there's a cache page that nobody could solve, and then the Cache Owner gives too much away. I see a tough puzzle, develop a plan of action, begin working on it, and then the Cache Owner adds hints later so that everybody solves it... and everybody but me has live Internet access. I'd like to have the opportunity to solve a puzzle that nobody else could crack. Or if there are hints & corrections & additional info, that needs to be there from the start.[/RANT] Well if you don't like hints being added later, this is the puzzle for you. I will not add a hint at all until someone solves it and even then, if I do add a hint, it'll be vague. Also, if you don't like seemingly impossible puzzles, you don't have to do em. Te only reason I have the amount of puzzles found that I do is because of friends helping me out or I just happen to be with them while they go for it. I've solved very few puzzles. They seem so impossible to me most of the time. Because of this, if I see a puzzle I most likely won't attempt it if it's above 2.5 difficulty.
  17. It's a little more obscure than my other ones. It takes a very specific web page to find the right info. Once you find the info and apply it the correct way it's super simple.
  18. No luck? If you run out of certitude chances, just email me and I'll tell you whether or not the coords are correct.
  19. Ive found a condom before. Theres a video on youtube of a guy finding a bottle of Corona in one of his caches. Thats probably the worst I've heard of.
  20. Like this > Groundspeak owner, staff, lackeys, reviewers, moderators... Most have one! http://www.Groundspeak.com/about.aspx#OurTeam That would be it. I take it that I can't have one D:
  21. I realize i have this in the wrong forum. Sorry> I dont know how to move it if you even can.

    Avatars

I,ve seen a few people lately that have an avatar picture that I really want. I've noticed that the people that have the style I want are generally reviewers but I've seen normal members have it too. It's basically a little cartoon style picture of themselves. The only example i can think of at the moment is the avatar that Nomex, the reviewer for northern California, uses. If someone could please help me out by telling me if they used a program and what program they used or if they look custom. Any help is appreciated!!
  23. Still better than some other native English speakers I have seen on here.... If I'm correct the idea is to be bale to have a cache icon change colour when you log a DNF so you know what caches you already looked for. is this correct? I believe that's what he's saying. I've wanted that feature since I started caching. When you go for hundreds of caches every month it gets hard to keep track of what you didn't find. Therefore making you revisit a cache that might be missing since the first time you searched for it. I guess that's what watchlists are for but this would make it easier for sure.
  24. I've been to events that definitely deserved a high terrain rating. 5 mile loop around a lake by kayak would seem to fit a 5 terrain maybe 4.5
