  1. 'unimportant grave stones'? IMO - all grave stones are important regardless if the person was 'famous' or not. Agreed. Try this. When looking at the dates on a headstone try to think of all the changes in the world between when the person was born and when they died. It puts history into perspective.
  2. Came across a PVC pipe container... it was closed too tight! Had carefully open it with a wrench bought from a near hardware store. Yeah, PVC pipe sounds like a good idea, but it isn't.
  3. I like hamster caching. It gives me and my 23lb cat something to do together. He has one blue ey, one green eye, and one big apatite. Hamster caching saves on the cat food bills.
  4. Do I look like a smiley folk? Damaged caches with missing owners need to be archived. Maintaining caches with no owner support can cause problems for the cache community. I've never really bought into the whole historical caches over proper maintenance thing. And I definitely don't buy into that people only want it archived to get another smiley. ah yeah. The oldest cache in NY still has the original log book in it. I'd hate to loose that just because the owner is no longer active. The best cache I ever found bar none would not be published today. It has been in place since 2002. I'd like to see it survive if the owner goes awol. After that I can't think of any off hand that are that special enough to warrant saving from the archive block. I might be able to come up with one or two others if I try hard enough but it won't be easy. So, two caches out of some fair number of caches that I have found. Not a lot of caches to keep alive by way of community effort. Now, the other side. Why would anyone want to adopt a run-of-the-mill cache that is in such rough shape that it has been sitting for months with a NM attribute on it? Post an SBA and let someone else take a shot.
  5. What he said. I do that, but still get CnP logs. You will never get rid off all of them. But if you hide the top shelf caches then others will, for the most part, reward you with better logs. If you are getting a lot of CnP logs you may wish to take another look at your hides with a more critical eye.
  6. It isn't just the smiley folks who would like to see most abandoned caches archived. I'd rather see the space opened up for an active cacher to try their hand at being creative. There are a few exceptions. Some caches that are grandfathered would be lost without the caching communities help. Some of those would be missed. Others would be better off gone. Also a few caches of "historical" value would be nice to see survive. Most caches though should just be archived when they become distressed and the owner is gone.
  7. The problem was the draw on site resources. I'm glad to have it back. The differences aren't enough to be a problem. A good compromise.
  8. Um, I see nothing evil about those logs. A bit juvenile yes. If you feel that strongly about it write to "Contact@Geocaching.com".
  9. Try the new link at the bottom right of you "My Profile" page. Things are a little different than they where. (Thanks again to the GS gang for bringing it back.)
  10. And what can be done if the cache is never submitted for review?
  11. Ah-ha! That explains it. She wouldn't like this. (The Midnight Princess aka The Puff aka Miss Puff aka Cherries aka Cherry Puffies.) I'm proud that she is my daughter and for some reason she's a daddy's girl. Impossible you say!? She doesn't appear to be hellraiser like me. That's probably a good thing. She hid her first cache this week. And only about 200 miles from here. There is a chance that I will get there some day.
  12. Brings me back to a question I asked earlier. gc has already made assumptions about placement at non-profits to the extent that they have waived the "fee" restriction. So I pay a fee to get into a non-profit's facility. Wouldn't gc also anticipate that the vast majority of non-profit operations look forward to donations? I'm still wondering if the reviewer can provide examples of non-profit facilities where a fee is charged to enter that would be permissible territory for a cache. If not the local Humane Society, what? I am not a reviewer but as I understand it The fees that are acceptable are for things like state parks. We are not looking at things that are supported by the donations they receive.
  13. That's Midnight Princess! I don't want to make a cache out of her. So who's kid is she? She is way too cute to be yours. My wife's of course! Ah-ha! That explains it.
  14. Awesome! I love it and I'm gonna steal it. (call a cop)
  15. There is one big difference other than the cache page. The town and the Chamber of Commerce are unlikely to expect donations. The same can't be said for the Humane society.
  16. Hard wire it. In addition to avoiding the battery shake it allows you to keep the back light on without running the battery down. They don't draw much power. Your Kaw. will handle the load no problem.
  17. Personally I would have no problem if the arbitrary number was .25 miles. It doesn't change the fact that you had problems hiding your cache and got upset because the world would not change to accommodate you. Learn to work with what you have.
  18. Host the picture someplace like photobucket. Copy the URL from the host site and paste it in the appropriate box on the cache submission form.
  19. Listen buddy the world isn't square any more. Imagine the number of people who died as a heretic, for simply being right. I am not your buddy and I have no sympathy for your problem. If my cache is in someone way they can ask me and I will consider moving it. Add to that that I sometimes archive a cache to give others a shot at the space. I do my part. I see no reason to change things to force others out so YOU don't feel put upon. Go out and find your own space, everyone else manages.
  20. If you don't want to play by the rues of GC dot com go list caches elsewhere. Or start you own geocaching website.
  21. Take the night off Raine. Tell Jeremy I said so.
  22. Hey, I put the little laughing frog thingy-whatsit on there. Edit-'Cause it's frog thingy-whatsit, not from thingy-whatsit.
  23. What, no playground attribute?
