  1. I've been geocaching on and off (more off, than on) for about 2 years now, and I've always just used EasyGPS to transfer the cache waypoints to my etrex venture, but I've never really found a useful way of using them. I normally print out the coords on a peice of paper, map out the location to the forest preserve/park, and then when I get out of my car I just keep walking until the coords on the GPSr match the coords for the cache on the paper, and then start looking around for the cache. Is this how everyone does it? Just curious...

Also, what good is using "routes?"

EDIT - Sorry, I probably should've posted this in the newbie cacher area, please move the post if this is the case! B)

  2. I'm guilty! On my first hide, I took a george dollar and stapled my friend's business card to it (he's a financial planner). If you want the buck, and not the card just take it off and throw it away, no one is going to cry about it. Just thought that since he was new (only about 2 years in the business) I'd help him out. If you toss the card, fine. If you call him up, he might be able to help save some college money for the kids (ie future geocachers! : ).. Win, win situation in my eyes. Now passing out passing out pamphlets of why you should invest with my friend in a cache is a little over the line, but don't get too crazy. I found a highliter I still use to this day in a cache with a business logo on it, I never called them up, but it's still handy!

  4. Normally I wouldn't even jump into a conversation like this due to the fact that you're all bickering like little kids, but I felt this might be appropriate.

    First,

    Calm down.

People are different. That's right. We're not all the same, not everyone has the same values and morals as everyone else. If you think yelling at each other, and making fun of others parents or upbringings is going help anything, please step away from the keyboard and go relax.

People are different. So you don't agree with someone elses views. So technically they might be stealing, and technically you might be trespassing. What about the "night-cachers" in parks that close when the sun goes down? No one is completely innocent, we all make choices, and sometimes, even though we think they're all right, they may not be. Have an open mind.

People are different. We think different, we act different. Does that mean we're bad people? Sometimes.. but for the most part, no. This argument will never end, until we all just agree to disagree. Takes a big man (or woman) to do that.

    Are you big enough?

It's just a hobby guys.. relax. We're all here for the same reason, just to have a little bit of fun.

That's my .02. Take it or leave it.

    Brandon

I don't understand why it is that our society has become so vulgar. I used to swear a lot myself when I was a teenager, an awful lot, but only around my friends who also swore up and down. I didn't swear around my folks, especially not around my grandparents, I also didn't swear in conversation with strangers or customers at work (or in earshot of customers at work). Still as I grew up, I quit such juvinile behavior almost completely. Sure occasionally $hit slips out when I slam my finger in a door or get a big scare, but I immediately feel self concious and stupid for saying it, old habits die hard....but with effort, they will die out completely one day I'm sure. What ever happened to standards of polite society? What ever happened to polite society period? Now I can't go anywhere without seeing someone wearing a shirt with vulgarity on it, or a bumper sticker, I can't walk down the sidewalk with my little children without them being exposed to all kinds of vulgarity from others having casual conversations in public. People don't even seem to care about swearing around thier kids or other's kids anymore. Society has become harsh, vulgar, ugly, and everyone wants to flaunt thier ugly language, ugly behavior, and call it thier right. Well look around people, how people talk, and how people act in public is a barometer of what's going on in private, where things are probably even worse, and if you don't believe me, turn to your almanac, look up crime statistics, look at entertainment and other social indicaters of 30 years ago, and compare them all today. As vulgar language, coarse behavior, and other ugliness has become more open and more acceptable other levels of nastyness have also been on the rise, more kids killing kids, more rape, more child abuse, more drug abuse, more drop outs, more teen pregnancy, more vandalism, and on and on. All I'm asking, is what happened to polite society? The problems with vulgarity are just a scratch on the surface, but they are an indicator of our overall societal decay. Call me a nut, but those are my thoughts on the matter.

ummmm....not sure what to say here....so ummm, well errrr, uhhhh, well I guess that's it.

    Amen to that..
