  1. Listen, don't panic. Yes, if you save a track it removes all that. If you keep it active it saves all that. But, you have another option. Go to "Tracks" - "setup" - "Data Card Setup"- And check the box for "log track to data card". This stores all the track info on the card. To access it, plug your unit into the computer, and put it into Mass storage mode by holding down the "ON" button for a moment. From there you can access the track info held on the card and open it with your mapsource. All the info will be there.
  2. Minimally. The nature of ionospheric errors and the power of computing, in my understanding, can fill in the blanks rather accurately. With Broadcast DGPS you are affected by distance from the monitoring broadcast station much more, although it is not huge when it comes down to it. My guess is that they are newer to putting these together, and ionospheric errors are much less the further north you go.
  3. Yes, only one WAAS sat is required for your corrections. Monitoring stations gathers data about atmospheric signal delays and such, and send their data to a master station, which creates a model of the corrections for the entire WAAS area (north America) and sends this data to the WAAS sats which transmits that model to your GPS. Your GPS knows where it is and so applies the proper corrections for where you are. Think of the correction model as a giant undulating nets that is spread across the continent. Where the treads of the net cross is the correction data for an area. Your gps looks for the closest thread crossing and applies those corrections. Thus the accuracy of your corrections are not dependent on how close you are to a monitoring station. The modeling has solved that problem. Here is what I am talking about as an example of what the model of corrections might look like:
  4. Here is an example of an Oregon400t sat status screen. 12 displayed channels and 1 WAAS slot. The WAAS is the one displayed to the far right (#48). The WAAS sat corrects the other GPS sats. Those that have the corrections applied have a "D" in the bar.
  5. Have you deleted out your old queries from the 400t? Do you have more than 2000 caches in your unit? You can turn caches into custom POI's and then the number is limited only by the size of the sd card.

  7. The other topic is getting hard to load so here's a fresh start: On my John Day trip I saw this guy: and a short eared owl:

I was hopeing to make it over this evening, but it looks like I won't be able to. Brian and his family are in our prayers.
  9. EraSeek....whew, if those "goofy" characters also appear in the 2nd column then I think you're dead in the water...I know of no way to select/type those symbols. I hope that myostis's "disk check" works...if it happens to me again (knock wood) I'll give that a try. Bill Well that didn't work. I selected both options on the disk check and hit start. It said Phase 1, and all options greyed out. Nothing happened on the progress bar or otherwise for 45 mins, so I tried to exit by cancel,. No go. By "x"ing out, no go. By safe disconect, no go. Nothing would proceed or let me out, so I pulled the cord on the GPS, and then hit the kill button on the laptop. I restarted all and all appears to be the same as before. Apparently no damage. Guess I'll just live with it and not be so fussy.
  10. Forum glitch. Here's what was to be posted: Some solar activity for the next few days. Here's when you keep WAAS enabled. Possible northern lights to be seen. Geophysical Activity Forecast: Geomagnetic field activity is expected to be at unsettled to active levels on day 1 (03 August) due to the arrival of the first of two CMEs observed on 01 August (this CME was associated with the long-duration C3/Sf flare at 01/0826Z). Activity is expected to be at active to minor storm levels with a slight chance for major storm on days 2 - 3 (04 - 05 August) due to the arrival of the second slower CME observed on 01 August (associated with a large filament disappearance).
  11. I think in my second column it had an AandE stuck together back to back and a spade symbol instead of an AandE and a square like in my 400t. I didn't know how to type in these symbols. Is there a way? Would running a disk error check work on the unit like myostis suggested?
  12. I have the same issue. Can't remove, can't rename. I tried master reset with no luck, I did a cmd to remove GPX files, it removed all but this guy. I'm not brave enough to try reformating the unit. I just live with the file there. I've seen no effect from it that I can tell. I don't like having it, but all is functioning ok, so I guess I'm stuck with it.
  13. There is a fungus that has migrated from the tropic and found a new home in the NW. It appears on the trunks and soils around fir and cedar trees. Not to panic, but just be aware of this, as it may be a spreading problem: http://www.scientificamerican.com/article....-global-warming

Wow, this comes totally out of the blue to me. One of the regional greats! He will be missed!
  15. What a shame! Here's the one I visited in John Day country in Oregon: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LU...03-dc7a7916ea85
  16. Just did it and I had no problem. Oregon 400t.
  17. Forget the law, no law needed. My unit tried to direct me into the Maryland State Prison once. My family hasn't trusted me and my GPS since!
  18. Here guys, I think this should hold you over until the launch! ->

  20. They will continue to show up there as such because they are in the gpx files. When you delete your gpx files that you loaded in they will go away. When you load in a new pocket query the found ones will not appear unless you tell the pocket query that you want them.
