  1. Of interest to this arguement is the following: There is: A title, a coordinate, the creators text regarding the challenge What there isn't and it isn't: There is NO creation date, This is NOT Waymarking, geocaching, or benchmarking, there is no box, There is no owner, There is no stated creator unless you dig deep in the logs. There are no rules or guidelines other than specified in the text. Maybe there should be... I'm just pointing out the elements here.
  2. I agree! Here how I think they could make it work: Cache pages that the creator owns. Pages that you can create like regular cache pages. Challenges that the owner has done himself recently. Photo proof that the person has completed the task. Review for true quality before they are published. Challenges would have to be like following a challenging track or a quality virtual like Kilroy in DC. NOTHING LAME. THEN it could count toward numbers. Otherwise just re-wind to what we had before. Get rid of challenges.
  3. If it didn't feel right, then you soon should have the ability to delete it. Well, as I have added "However, there is some arguement for this. We have many challenge caches in the area as you probably do as well, where you may count previously done caches toward completion of the newly created challenge". I going to wait and see if GC makes any points about this and what the general consenses is, and then I may in fact do so.
  4. I might just add, that it doesn't quite feel right and probably wouldn't do it again. However, there is some arguement for this. We have many challenge caches in the area as you probably do as well, where you may count previously done caches toward completion of the newly created challenge.
  5. Hmm. Well I must say that I'm confused by this. Seems to me one problem with challenges is that they are rule-less and rudder-less. I did a long beach hike a year ago that is now a challenge, and yes, this one is truely challenging. The creator of the challenge pointed it out to me and that I might want to log it. Wondering about whether there were any rules or ethics regarding this I searched around and found nothing regarding this at all. I went ahead and logged it. I certainly wouldn't call this couch-potato logging. I did do it and it was tough. I still do high terrain stuff, but I do see many flaws with Challenges as presented (quite a few in fact) and this is clearly something that needs defining.
  6. Got some dirt for ya: Weightlifting? Rickie phoons Velma and Scooby phoon Phooning and Owling Reverse planking
  7. Yes I care. They must leave their signature in the cache or it is not a find, period. I don't care if it is on a seperate piece of paper or not. If they have not done this, I will delete it.
  8. Actually the way I see it is that the odds can be infinite, unless you define a degree of accuracy (or non-accuracy) allowed. No reason to assume that 360 degrees is defined well enough. Never-the-less, back to the topic. Today I failed. I climbed up Mt Pillchuck and did not come home with a phoon, a plank, a north-plank, or an owling. I did phoon once but Jon was not quick enough with his camera and I didn't have enough energy to do a re-do.
  9. I guess we really have to get the intervention scheduled for him ... so many addicts, so little time (when we're not caching). We could schedule an "Intervention" event then go caching afterward. I like that.
  10. If you look closely the shaft is red, I just have the black tip extended. Never-the-less, the important thing to north-planking is that you are pointed north. If the chances of pointing (parallel to the ground) north at the south pole is 100%, and 0% at the north pole, what are the chances of pointing north on a random plank at the equator? 1 in..
  11. Of course it's "true" north-planking, but you want to deviate a bit that's fine too. Interestingly, the best possible spot to North-plank is at the true south pole. You can't screw up there. Anyway you turn to north-plank, you "north"-plank. The worst spot to north-plank is at the north-pole! It just can't be done.
  12. I don't have the balance anymore to do the phooning, so I'm a planker. OK here's it is. Introducing the world to whatcha call "north-planking", and no, I ain't none too proud of it niether. My link
  13. "Only 0 to 3 Lyme disease cases per year are reported to be infected in Washington. Lyme disease is caused by the Borrelia burgdorferi bacteria, which can be transmitted through the bite of a western black-legged tick, Ixodes pacificus. Western black-legged ticks pick up the bacteria after feeding on infected rodents. These ticks live in forested or brushy areas of western Washington." Recent tends are 7 - 16 reports, most, if not all of these were aquired out of state. I have read that the tick must be in place 24 hours for the Lyme disease to infect someone. Also I have read the type of ticks we have in western Washington are not much of a problem for humans, but for dogs, yes. Having lived in Western Washington all my life and hiked about most of it, I have never seen a tick in Western Washington, but have seen a number of them in Eastern Washington.
  14. Sorry, No, I don't mind comments... I just don't want direct photos because loading them really drags down most peoples internet. OK, a couple of things. I know people got fun stuff out there but if no one shares I'll move this to the general forums where all the less cultured people live. Also in the next week or so I intend on introducing a geocaching varient to planking, called "North Planking" or "Needleing", maybe I'll go viral! Educationally, these practices are memes; you can regard memes as cultural analogues to genes in that they self-replicate, mutate and respond to selective pressures, so they may be short-live in one form but long-lived overall. An example: here is my early attempt from 2006 while geocaching at developing "planking". My link It was an early form in Beta, which I now refer to as "The Bent Plank"
  15. Alternative silliness! This slot is reserved for posting Geocaching + Phooning, Planking, and Owling(because planking is so two-months old!) GC site photo links. Post your, (not photos- save on bandwidth), but geocaching links to your geocaching site photos of these activities while you were geocaching. Don't know what it is? You are sooo behind the times! (I'm sure she won't mind) here is an example of how to post: My link
  16. Yes, that's an awesome place. There used to be a cache out there, but new rules come along you know. Makah land. I don't know if anyone has approached them to place another, but I wonder if permission is needed for an Earthcache there. It would be a great spot for either. One of the primo spots in Washington for sure.
  17. Walked through the tunnel today. It was great to do that again. Nice and cold inside. The only evidence of a redo is near the entrances. All the alcoves still exist. Bloody Finger Dirty Dippers is still there and in great shape. Also checked Iron Horse which L&R are taking care of and it is doing well. It still drips (rains on you) inside. The road surface is firm and in good shape. I couldn't get cell service at the east portal but I was surprised to find I had great service half way though the tunnel!! Inside! Beautiful day. Gorgeous!
  18. Here's part of a log today from the "Room with a view" cache at Cape Disappointment State Park (maybe they just got a warning): "Best cache I've been to yet. My only advise is not to forget to pay for parking. The Rangers are quick to ticket, but it was worth it."
  19. Sometimes its hard to tell what is DNR, what is Fish and Wildlife, what is State Park, and what is Federal. Very confusing! Not altogether fair. When do you suppose King County and Seattle will follow suit?
  20. Reluctantly bought mine today (I already have the fishing license and donated $3 when my tabs were renewed). I went in to the Fish and Wildlife headquarters and they still charged me the $35. They said the only way to get the $30 price is directly from a State Park Ranger. They have pre-purchased a coupon book type thing and they tear one of these out and give them to you for $30. However I called St Edward state park and they said they were all out.
  21. Wallula Gap Overlook. Not stoller accessable. Do it anyway.
  22. The tunnel is open. Official opening is July 5. Buss service up the pass to run the tunnel begins tomorrow July 1.
  23. "Washington State Parks offers pass programs that reduce or waive camping, moorage and watercraft launch fees..." This is I believe just for those activities or rather if you have a pass of some kind for those activities then you don't need to pay the $10 or the Discovery pass in the state parks. I called the discovery pass people and they said no breaks on the discovery pass. Full price for seniors.
  24. This is what things look like today. Nothing indicating it is closed at the east portal. Doors open. Walls cemented. There is a gate across the trail near the parking lot but I think that has always been there.
