  1. ... and miss out on the dodgem car rides?! *BUMP!*
  2. Back to the top we go
  3. If you are using a machine with a command line you could try using WGET to save the images for you. If you set up a small script that is called from a cron (scheduled task) you could captue the image and save it with the date+time as part of the filename so that you could pick the best image. The major trick here will be knowing when to start capturing the images, how often to save the image (how often is the shot refreshed?), and when to stop capturing (You didn't want to fill your disk with the webcam shots ?) It's not a graphical interface, but it will work cheers Darren
  4. But the 'guidelines' http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx#commercial have not been changed to indicate that the 'guidelines' have been changed. The *only* indication of this change of 'guidelines' is buried in the forums. When you submit a cache you agree to the 'guidelines' as posted at the above url ... I think this is where a fair bit of the heat in the discussion came from (on both sides). Perhaps the 'guidelines' need to be updated to show the current moritorium is in effect? cheers Darren
  5. (assuming that this thread survives another hour *chuckle*, I can see a closure comming on) Imagine that 10 other greedy, selfish, egocentric %insert-nation-here%'s see that post and find out if their companies will match a donation dollar for dollar, then thats a pretty good community outcome. If another 500 think "what crap" and move on, there is no loss because the 10 got some value (in fact most of the 500 will skip the thread). cheers Darren
  6. http://www.google.com.au/search?q=geocache+%22fundraising They exist, some are more subtle than others such as event caches. We are just going over the same ground, and unless you are an approver with inside knowledge of the interpretaion of the guidelines we are playing semantics at this stage cheers Darren
  7. But Geocachers are a community, and it is communities that make a difference in these things. As has been stated by others, perhaps for those of us who are unhappy with these rules it is time for us to move on as "GC.com" no longer appears to the community it was and seems to be a lot more focused on the ".com"
  8. nuff said? (ie. enough said :: The fact that this was a virtual, and your signature states your dislike for this form of cache)
  9. Even in the complete text I saw no reference to excluding caches for non-profit organisations collecting for humanitarain/compassionate aid. cheers Darren
  10. Caches that "solicit", I think that you'll find that this is pretty much restricted to "caches that request donations". If you have a look there are multiple examples of "soliciting" that has been/is acceptable, they just don't seems to raise as many hackles The selective interpretation of some of the terminiology in the guidlines is probably what angers people. cheers Darren
  11. If it doesn't make a difference why do we support CITO? Becuase *it does* make a difference! And if you don't agree with it, you don't have to log it ... no one forces anyone to do any caches. cheers Darren
  12. Double standards and hypocracy .... at least the colours have been run up the mast. The "9-11 Donate Blood cache" was an exception, but I forgot that was for the US! It has shown a lot of the the Australian users that GC.com is an extremely US focused game with US-centric policy. And to think I had been about to sign up as a Premium member this evening, now I am rethinking my involvement with GC.com. cheers Darren The ELTHAM Mob

  14. quote:Originally posted by aggregate:Hi, I was wondering if anyone could reccomend some free or cheap (<AU $100) apps (Win98/WinXP Pro As BigBirdNL said ozieexplorer is pretty good; check out the Australian page at the web site. To check out what other Aussie cachers are using, have a look at the Geocaching Australian :: Forums Cheers Darren
  15. quote:Originally posted by Snoogans:Yes! Please join the disorganized madness that is this thread.... Like the concept! That got me thinking, a bad habit but there we go. Hmmm, following a rat down an aquaduct (or should that be a mouse?); quote:THE HHGTTG (p.123) .... 'Oh yes,'said Slartibartfast. 'Did you ever go to a place ... I think it was called Norway?' 'No,'said Arthur, 'no, I didn't.' 'Pity,' said Slartibartfast, 'that was one of mine. Won an award you know. Lovely crinkly edges. I was most upset to hear of its destruction' Welcome to the *Slartibartfast Signature Series* Another set for your HHGTTG TB's to bag The cache must be in a location with evidence of current, recent or ancient glaciation, plenty of scope really. http://www.ivygreen.ctc.edu/ids/102/Solutions02/Glacialfeaturesans.pdf (2126KB) The name would be something like *LOCATION NAME :: Slartibartfast Signature Series* ... possibly even a graphic for inclusion on the cache page? quote:THE RATEOTU (p.179) .... 'Norway,' said Arthur, 'Slartibartfast's signature in the glacier. Did you tell them?' Any takers? cheers Darren
