  1. I had a cache take over a month. The approval body for the park I was placing my cache in was on holiday. I had to go back and check on it during that time to ensure it was still there for the FTF when it came. Shaun
  2. People who filter out micros in their pocket queries aren't going to be happy about finding a bison tube embedded in a log. They're not going to be happy about finding a bison tube in any kind of cammo. Generally, people who really care about cache size are more concerned with interior space. +1 for this. Shaun
  3. Yes, this should be respected. If you log a cache by smashing it.. you should feel pretty bad for yourself. Just in the past week I called off two searches that I figured I would break the cache just as likely as finding it. These things open like butter in the summer.. most of the time! Shaun
  4. You get dragged to the mall enough times and you develop more of an appreciation for these. LPC > Women's clothing shopping. It's a fact! Shaun
  5. In our area, the request came from the parks staff themselves. Nails in trees would get ALL caches removed from ALL parks.. not just the offending nail hung caches. That is how serious they were about it. Reflective tacks did come up, and they DID have a problem with these as well. Anything that passed through the bark and into the tree was a problem. SO... around here it really isn't our god given right to nail things into trees. IMO, A few of you need a visit from the Lorax. Shaun
  6. I would also point out that once you cache for a while it becomes harder to cache where you live. You have found them all... So you may be caching just as much, only now you are finding less per trip.. Possibly. That could make it look less popular in some measures. Shaun
  7. I was bored at lunch. I downloaded the app. Since then I have found many green spaces I didn't know about. I now also have a much better understanding how Light Poles are constructed. Shaun
  8. Damaging trees in parks around here (this includes nails) nets you a big fine. Don't do it.. not for a cache! Shaun
  9. I give up every time I go out. If I didn't I would look like Gandalf the grey traveling around the woods moving from cache to cache. You have to go home and eat sometime. Shaun
  10. I do wonder how that guy made out. Kind of a neat idea I guess.. really depends on the execution. Shaun
  11. I have tried this on both my Firefox and Internet Explorer. When I look up a cache page, then enter the image gallery, then click on an individual picture, there is a "View Log" link at the bottom of the image. It does not link to the log it was added from, but seems to load the next image. If I click on that next image's view log link, I just get yet another picture in that cache gallery. I am looking at a cache with a SPIDER in the cache image gallery. I want to know what this guy is all about before I try to find that cache! Thanks Shaun
  12. That pocket watch would be irresistible to a thief. Tough luck, that. If it is that watch, it appears the cache itself was muggled. Shaun
  13. That is kind of a weird story. Glad you got your supplies back.. too bad about your Car.. I guess it got muggled. Maybe you want to throw some deadfall or leaves on top of it next time... Shaun
  14. That cache is fantastic! He was able to change the background image on the cache page, so kudos to that! Shaun
  15. How about all the time he needs. Wife > Coin.. even if it isn't YOUR wife. Shaun
  16. The WORST is when people put candy into a caches. My kids have grabbed a few of these and almost (guh!) got them into their mouths. I also may, on occasion, *accidentally* break caches that I feel are created just to endanger other cachers. Shaun
  17. Sounds like more of a reviewer issue to me. These special placement conditions should be understood by the reviewer and explained to anyone placing a cache. I personally think an attribute like this would be a bad idea. Do you really want military base location targets tied to specific GPS coordinates? Shaun
  18. I have seen cachers trying to act casual. They REALLY REALLY sitck out.. don't bother. I will try to make a fake phone call, mill about, circle back.. .but if someone is really giving me the eye.. I go for the goods.. or I move on.. depending how I feel. Shaun
  19. Um, you aren't getting "caught" if you aren't doing anything illegal. It kind of sucks when you give up the location of someone's cache, but there have been a few I have done where the actual location of the cache lent itself to this sort of situation happening (see any cache placed in close proximity to where children play). In those situations I will go as far as pull out the cache and explain it to the person. Better to inform them what the thing is than to have them search it out after I leave. So far it's worked for me every time. Shaun
  20. I have no desire to FTF, I have had two in total but the second had been un-found for almost a whole day. Personally, I like to find caches that have been "Confirmed to be there". If you are the first ever to find this thing, it is possible it was logged wrong, in the wrong place, etc.. I'll wait.. and let the people who really want firsts.. to be first. Shaun
  21. Be a "do what you want" cacher.. Labels are for cache containers, not people. Shaun
  22. I experienced a cache that was under a pee soaked piece of art downtown next to a pub. This art also had used needles shoved under it. Thats a bad micro! It may have been good to start with.. but it hung out with a bad crowd I am afraid. Shaun
  23. Find them, take them.. Find them, log them.. The next guy may be a small child who takes this to play in the mud with.. so do what you want! Save it! Shaun
  24. To each their own. I do wonder if people get stung, bit, or injured doing these things... look before you reach! Shaun
  25. Every time I have been questioned, the person had two guesses right off the bat: first guess.. a lost Ring the second guess.. geocaching If you *ever* lose a ring, tell anyone questioning you that you are looking for a geocache. Less chance of them searching for your lost treasure after you have left in frustration. Shaun
