  1. there is no such thing as a GPS that would allow you to post your finds I think he meant 'field notes'. i doubt it, "field notes" and "posting found it logs" are quite different...i have a feeling he/she is referring to their smartphone as "GPS" i have an Oregon 550 and field notes are not a PITA by any means You are right, I was referring to both. I use the iphone for messing about. I find it pretty good for creating a post, uploading photos, etc. It is actually easier than using the webpage, imo. However, if I have my phone out in bad weather or even on a bright day, I am going to record a blank long and come back later and update it. You can create field notes on the iphone, but for me it is just as easy to upload the log and fix it at home (you then dont have to pull out the phone later to sync) My GPS has a 'found it' log. It does create a field note. Sorry for the confusion around that. I tried ONCE to comment in the field.. that was the torture I mentioned.. terrible! Personally, I scale my found log with how much I enjoyed (or didnt enjoy) the find.
  2. Umm posting a found note from my GPS creates a blank long. Using the GPS interface to enter a comment is torture!
  3. My wife got hers the other day (after the postal strike). She loves it! Thanks! Shaun
  4. Hrm... and no mislabeling your micro as a regular.
  5. Why is no one talking about used GPS. You can get one for virtually free. Other people want to go high end and paperless. You can get their hand-me-down that more than suits your needs.
  6. I found one under a foot of wet leaves. It was buried IMO! May not have seem so bad, but after the rain.. what a mucky muck! Shaun
  7. My wife found an ipod. Not sure if it worked or not. We had nothing of that value to trade. Shaun
  8. Nothing.. Canada post has been on strike!
  9. IMO more is better, you can choose to find every 10th one.. 100th one.. only puzzles.. only multi.. If there aren't ANY caches, then you have a much different problem!
  10. Down by the river. Homeless having a bonfire.. I logged a DNF. Shaun
  11. Get approval first before placing it. IMO the bomb squad should be checking on here first. Shaun
  12. If you don't like the cache, don't go find it! I would rather have lots to choose from all the time. Sometimes when I go across town I just want to snag a quick 1 or 2. These are perfect for that. I do leave more generic comments to caches I feel didn't take as much effort to hide. Another issue, I have come home or back to work in some very dirty work clothes. These caches are great in that I don`t have to trundle through the woods in work shoes! Shaun
  13. As someone who has just picked this up recently, I can tell you it gets easier. I went back and found a few I just could not figure out. You get a second nature in where to look pretty fast. Don't start with Micros.. go look for ammo cans. Also look for those with hints (read them!) that explain exactly where to look. Might as well make it enjoyable at first. Later you can increase the difficulty. I have also heard it is good to have one "home run" in your day, so you don't go home feeling totally dejected. Good luck! Shaun
  14. Nuts to what everyone else says.. this is just a cash grab on their part. You don't have to be happy about it. Seriously, return the unit.. buy it again, then get the update. That isn't dishonest, that is working a system that isn't working for you currently. btw, no one reads those boiler plate documents. Shaun
  15. Some pretty good discussion there.Calgary Cachers (links to the forum as well) There is also: Shaunem
  16. This was just a few days ago. I went out caching downtown during a work lunch hour. It had been raining all week and I grabbed my baseball cap and an umbrella and figured I would try for one of the busier caches as there may be less people out. After failing to get an underpass cashe due to the foot traffic (its raining you mugg's!) I went out to try for another. This second one turned out to be hidden on the side of a tank in front of an academy. This thing is positioned on a fake bridge with railroad ties across it. Picture a guy in work clothes, trying to reach around dirty/greasy tank treads in the rain. After about 5 minutes I lost my balance and dropped a** first into a rain puddle. I cursed myself and just logged a DNF. Greasy hands and wet underpants! http://coord.info/GC1EQA5 If you are interested! It was still a fun day caching however! Thanks, Shaun
  17. Why not try contacting the owner of some caches in your area and get hints directly from them before you go out. No one wants you to feel defeated. You also might want to lower expectations.. I go with my 4 year old and he seems to manage not finding them all the time. Sometimes he does require a McDonalds instead. Shaun
