  1. +1........As long as the Computer is showing the Device plugged in
  2. Don't know if this is Ok to post here but Bass Pro Shops has Military issue Ammo cans on sale for 10 bucks on Black Friday..... Thought that was a pretty good deal, I am starting to round up stuff for my first Hide....
  3. Trying to educate myself here...I am going to start hiding Caches and wouldn't want to cross a line......Would this statement from the History channel be inline with the guidelines set by Groundspeak??? On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in the First World War, then known as "the Great War." Commemorated as Armistice Day beginning the following year, November 11th became a legal federal holiday in the United States in 1938. In the aftermath of World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day became Veterans Day, a holiday dedicated to American veterans of all wars. Or how about this historical fact on the Christmas Holiday, it mentions Jesus in a Historical context not meant to promote an agenda..??? Also from the History Channel's website.. Christmas is both a sacred religious holiday and a worldwide cultural and commercial phenomenon. For two millennia, people around the world have been observing it with traditions and practices that are both religious and secular in nature. Christians celebrate Christmas Day as the anniversary of the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, a spiritual leader whose teachings form the basis of their religion. Popular customs include exchanging gifts, decorating Christmas trees, attending church, sharing meals with family and friends and, of course, waiting for Santa Claus to arrive. December 25–Christmas Day–has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1870.. I did a quick search of titles under Veteran...and Jesus(just to see) There are multiple Caches under both titles(some having Military or Religous context in the Cache Description) so obviously it is left up to the discretion of the reviewer and consistency across the board may be lacking...If Jasta 11 would have had a different reviewer with a different mindset from what I have seen in my search there is a pretty good chance his Cache could have been posted "as is"... I'm done with this subject and I get the gist of the wording on the language put out from Groundspeak on their concerns with someone promoting an agenda....I will "Rock on" and see you all on the trail...
  4. Jasta 11...I looked at your post and I dont get what the issue was....Isnt Veterans day a nationally recognized Holiday that was enacted to honor our Veterans???.... This concerns me greatly and makes me question if this is an organization that I wish to continue to support... If they are going to censor one Holiday over other Holidays that clearly have a message that violates their own rules I have to question their stance.. I am definetly willing to listen to the other side of the story but right now I am confused....
  5. Where does it say anything about historical??? Fact...Country was at War...Soldier went to war...Soldier committed an act of Valor that warranted a MOH....Cache Hider included the citation in the Cache Description.. How is that any different than the millions of Caches that have some historical Data or theme...??? I question who has the Agenda.....??? If you don't want to participate in a Veteran themed Cache, then don't...That's your right....but why restrict those that enjoy reading and participating in something that recognizes that part of history?? By your logic we should restrict the Easter, Christmas, Halloween, St Patricks day, etc etc Caches because those could be construed as promomting a Religous agenda....Give me a break...
  6. I have had a 450T for a few years....I really wouldn't call it a piece of Junk...Any time I have had an issue it has always been an operator issue. I do some searching here and google and usually within a few minutes I see my error... I am far from computer guy also...but I put the time in to hunt and peck and usually can work my way through it....I doubt you will find it any less confusing with any other unit that is paperless....I also have a magellan and a Lowrance....I hardly doubt you are too old...I am 50 and My wife's mom is 70 and we stumbled our way through the issues..
  7. Doesn't really sound like light family friendly entertainment, to be honest I totally disagree...What better way to educate families on the sacrifices that have been made so that we have the Freedoms to enjoy our past times...Like Geocaching.... Those freedoms came at a heavy cost and the more we can do to educate future generations the better off we will be.....If it comes while doing a great past time like Geocaching even the better...They will probably retain the message better when in the field than in a classroom.. As far as using Geocaching to bring Vets together, I think it is an awesome idea....If I ever get in the area I would make it a point to be there..
  8. I think some people have addictive personalities or use it to escape something to the point it takes over their lives...Gambling, Religion, sports etc etc all have examples of people taking it to the extreme.... When a pasttime is destructive and no longer enhances your life there are some other issues going on... I know people that have taken hobbies to the point of running their family into bankruptcy....
  9. I prefer my GPS for hardcore Geocaching and hiking...it's what I am used to(Retired Military)...I have tried my smart phone and use it for quick finds when on the go it just doesn't seem as accurate to me....The only benefit I see is that I can log finds on the spot and give more accurate details of my journey than if I wait a few days to download my field notes from a GPS.. Hopefully both tools keep advancing and remain available to customers.....Why should you have to pick one or the other, makes no sense to me...I will continue to do PQs and load up my GPS before long hikes and have my Smartphone with me for safety and backup....
  10. I have seen quite a few critters while Geo Caching....I stopped at a parking area up in Northern Michigan and there was a sign put up to Beware of Mama bear and her cubs, I decided not to go for the smiley because I had my dog with me... Puting a trail cam up and watch a Geo Cache would be pretty cool...
  11. i use a Fine tipped permanent Sharpie...
  12. Most of the other organizations and hobbies that I am a part of have lobbying organizations that work hard at the federal level to keep access open to their members in public areas....For fishing..BASS, FLW, For my off-road hobbies the AMA and for Mountain Biking MMBA...Does geocaching.com do this?? (I am just getting more active in this community) There is strength in numbers and the squeeky wheels get the oil.. I have no problem with the permit procedure because that is life, but 59 bucks is way too steep....
  13. Not necessarily "out of their minds" - there are a number of reasons why someone might not want to pay to become a premium member in 2013. You might simply not appreciate what they are. There is a difference here. If someone doesn't want to pay for premium membership I can respect that. However, RhizomicSearcher is suggesting that he should get premium membership for free. The reason appears to be because he would only use one or very few premium member features. I suppose it would be fairer if we were charged only for the features that we used but buying features a la carte tend to cost more than bundled features. Another issue RhizomicSearcher seems to have is with the advertizing model on the site. Not only has this model been used successfully on this site for years it is being used successfully on many other sites. That is kind of what I was getting at...The powers that be at this sight offer basic services for free. That is great that they can do that and still maintain the sight from the funding they get from premium members and other sources. They don't have to do that and for anyone to feel that they are entitled to any services let alone premium benefits is asking alot. I am making the assumption that the reason they offer free basic service is the hope that the basic member will get hooked and go all in... Glenn, You are correct in that I am ignorant on why someone wouldn't pay for a premium membership but I am pretty open minded.....(I am sure it is more than just Financial reasons) Has the ratio of premium members to basic members dropped since the popularity of Smart phone apps???
  14. It's 30 bucks a year or whatever I pay....It is the cheapest activity that I participate in...These guys complaining about having to pay it are out of their minds, do they think this site runs for free???? I haven't been doing this long but GeoCaching.com and their active members have given me a reason(and motivation) to get out, exercise, and enjoy the outdoors without breaking the bank...I would pay 10 times the premium cost...
  15. I have an Endura Safari....I don't use it for Caching but I did load some Caches on it one time but it has been awhile.... It seems like I had to change the Format from GPX to another format.. I have the directions in the Safari box at home but I won't have access to it for a few days.....I remember it being kind of a pain in the rear..
  16. I think the important thing with kids is to let them help packing the snack...It gets them involved and they will probably eat it better if they have some ownership in choosing the days meal... MREs...no way...YECCCHHH... I am retired Army and have spent lots of time in the field and combat deployments and I wouldn't touch them then....In Iraq we packed Bananas, KIWI, boiled eggs, and energy bars and saved the MREs for the locals...LOL...
  17. I found this one in a Cache....It was still shown in Mayhems hands a year and a half ago....With the rich history in travels that this Cache had I just grabbed it and sent it on its way....I didn't want it to sit lost... Farmall
  18. 92 that is Great...I hope God blesses me with the ability to continue to Cache when I am 92...
  19. You guys get more attached to your chosen brand than the Ford vs Chevy guys.... To the OP...Go to REI or some other store that carries a large selection of GPS units and play with them...What fits someone else's needs may or may not fit yours... I stick with Garmin because of familiarity..and I have had 0 issues with them.... I am sure the other brands will do everything that you are looking for...
  20. That is a big help...Thanks...
  21. I have 2 German Shepherds working dogs so I would need a large container.... Thanks for the info....I'm ordering a couple collars and tags..
  22. I saw the accessories at the store for pets that had "Log my dog" on them....I tried to do a search of the forum but the search engine won't let me do 3 letter words in a search... What is "Log my dog" and how does it work.?? Thanks for the help... Brian
  23. Got it....Thanks for the help...
  24. I clicked "run one time only then delete" or however it is worded...Didn't pick a day... It showed up under my pocket queries and listed 500 caches..just showed (0) on the nnmber ready to download....I am a premium member if that makes a difference... Thanks for responding..
  25. I did a pocket Query and it shows up on with 500 Caches...but the "PQ ready to download" says(0)...How do I get a PQ ready to download??? I have a Garmin 500
