  1. Ric, I am part of a group known as the Colvin Crew. It is the goal of this organization to spread the word about a relatively obscure champion of the NYS Forest Preserve who was instrumental in the creation of the Adirondack Park. We perform recoveries "following in the footsteps of our namesake" This link will bring you to our website. This is the information you have been looking for I'm sure. http://www.colvincrew.org/ We have a recovery set up for June! If you have any questions let me know. Todd
  2. I feel bad saying it, but at least I'm not the only one with this problem. Thanks for being by my side all.
  3. Here are some I've found and placed as waymarks "www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WMYR0" "www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WM9BW"
  4. ddnutzy, Sounds good. I'll reply to your e-mail and we'll set up a day to meander some of the border. When I was mapping out the border I did see you've logged some. Talk to you soon.
  5. I have a found a few benchmarks along the RHODE ISLAND-CONNECTICUT BORDER. I was just wondering if there are any locals that want to get together to go search ? I'm kinda looking at the ones right on the border out to about a 1/2 mile either side.
  6. I'm not a "PRO" at this but pretty sure the M.R.R. is for MONONGAHELA Rail Road. The EL might be for elevated (R/R bridge). After a little research I've confirmed my first statement. exert from web-site http://www.railroadiana.org/info/pgMarkings.php Nice find. I always like the BM's near RR's Bullionhunter
  7. In Rhode Island one a few real close to each oter at the border of RI, MA, and CT that get's a lot of attention. http://www.geocaching.com/mark/details.aspx?PID=MY3729 http://www.geocaching.com/mark/details.aspx?PID=MY3728
  8. I use a small bottle of baby powder myself. It works great. I also have a small brush to get of the covering dirt as in the instance of today with a mark that has not been touched probably since 1969! Without baby powder: And with: Another trick for baby powder... if your at the beach and you need to get the sand off your feet, use baby powder! It takes it all off.
  9. Don't lose hope on your TB. My first TB traveled a lot of mile and then stopped on 11/30/2002. BUT, it was picked up out of cache in 6/19/2005 all though it has been dormant again since 9/9/2006. Well I suppose you just never know. I try to be very diligent about logging a bug in out and not losing it inbetween
  10. Well, yesterday I kayaked 6.5 miles in RI. I was checking out a possible cache location. I spotted an old car battery (obviously from a motorboat) that had been "deep sixed". I had to use my small anchor as a grappling hook, as it was about 7' under water. I almost dumped the kayak getting it on board due to the weight. I could not feel right leaving this battery in such a beautiful place.
  11. Well I had no luck with either of those. Hmmmmm. I did not see it in the persons profile I got it from either
  12. I have all the #'s from the coin but can't seem to find where I can log this one. My brother had passed it of to me cause he said he wouldn't be getting it out any where soon. Any ideas on how I could log this one? Thanks
  13. Scituate Resevoir. Rhode Island view to spillway of the Gainer Memorial Dam.
  14. I was in this park on the 20 Feb 2006 and looked for 2 bm's . The Tiorati Lookout Tower "http://www.geocaching.com/mark/details.aspx?PID=LY2515" This tower has been removed but I was able to locate the base legs still in rock. Having found these I found the center of the structure. Would you consider this a viable find or should I mark it DESTROYED? Thank you in advance. bullionhunter
  15. AS OF 14 JAN 2006: There is only 68.36 miles away from Tiki Mon Tiki Mon TBGR5C and Hau'oli La'au Huahelu (HLH) HLH TBD326 A neat SIDE MISSION would be to be placed in the same cache. Anyone from that area up for the challenge? To think they started in Rhode Island and have traveled to the same state. Happy hunting, bullionhunter
  16. I appreciate all the advice. Can't wait to get it and start!
  17. WOW 1700 whew that is a lot. Thank you for your advice.
  18. Does anyone use a PALM TUNGSTEN E COLOR HANDHELD PDA 32MB? What is the best software to use for geocaching? I like to cache and do benchmarks. Any suggestions? I am new with the PDA stuff. Thanks
  19. ALL RIGHT? What kind of approval is needed for a new category? Who do I ask for approval? is anyone reading this? (haha) Are proposals being accepted? Thanks all.
  20. I had mentioned this when this all firstt started but was not sure of how to propose and follow thru. Istill don't. Any help. I am going to be doing it on my own anyways I think but there are hundreds of historical cemetaries all over RI. I have come across some in the middle of woods and all kinds of places. I find them very interesting and would like to start compilling a list of there city locations / and # placed to cemetary. There are some 3000 + in RI. Some have not been located yet either. I think it would be great to post them here. Any suggestions on this.
  21. I'd like to propose a historical cemetary list. I know I have come across many, many cemetaries in Rhode Island in the middle of no where. It has always been interesting seeing some of the dates and names. How does it sound?
  22. I was wondering how many people resort to using a metal detector when not being able to find a benchmark. I want to buy one and was wondering how helpful they can be. I would also use it to search for coins and stuff. Any suggestions on a brand or model that is of good quality at a reasonable price?
  23. Have you ever started a travel bug and it went missing? I have and it was not just one bug gone missing either But here is a story to put hope back into your mind. I released the Soccer Bug TB on April 7,2002 It had spent a little time in the US then went on to Belgium. Then on 11/30/2002 it was placed in The Orpheus Cache in Bulgaria "http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=3837c0de-4b6b-439b-9e76-eac5575ff8d2" I had given up on this TB. The cache it was in had not been found since it's inception when the Soccer Bug was placed. and now today. AMAZING It was found and is headed back to the United States. The log entry is pretty ineresting too. Wish I could go find that cache. I quess you should just never give up on a lost travel bug
  24. Thank You all. I got some good reading to do. I did try the arrows on the rm's but still sent me to same area. I like the probe and maetal detector idea. Wish I had a metal detector. Thanks again. bullionhunter
  25. Thanks. That was what I figured I should do. I think I'll go back and hunt around again sometime. I enjoy doing the BM so I think that I should bring a good measuring device as well. Happy hunting.
