  1. Apart the exciting knowledge that they were from Norwich, it doesn't say much more than " ". Mostly I've given up caring, just delete the emails and move on. If it's blank, at least I don't have to spend a second or two reading the same C&P drivel again. If someone did that on a particular special cache, I'd delete it and email them. But if people can walk all the way to the top of Scafell and still write nothing, or just C&P their log, what hope for any other cache? Rumour has it that some people actually walk all the way to the top of Scafell even though they aren't geocachers and that some of these delinquents don't even write a diary about their days excercise It's not all about the text!
  2. Ah well. You keep writing long logs. I'll keep writing logs that are probably a bit shorter, but I'm not about to criticise others for blank or even one word logs. At the end of the day it's an outdoor game not a writing competition
  3. No, its not causing stress at all, it is just a bit sad that people no longer have the manners to show their appreciation for all the hard work that goes into hiding boxes, buying the contents, negotiating with landowners, working closely with local forestry, liasing with Woodland Trust management, many meetings with the local council, the hundreds of miles walked leaving boxes for others to find, hosting events for your enjoyment........... Up here both Big Tree and Woodland Trust have paid for boxes, contents, even gone out and hidden the boxes themselves in their woodlands and forests for us to find, Rangers have given their time setting trails and doing games/trails to amuse the youngsters, they have hosted their own events, done a BBQ, supply mini buses - If they constantly receive blank logs, we are going to lose their support surely? So no, not stressed at all, quite the opposite, losing interest to go to all the trouble any more. Not everyone judges things by effusive how the thank yous are. Personally I would regard the expectation of a thank you as a form of vanity. I do plenty of voluntary work and whilst a genuine thank you from the heart is nice it's worthless if it's not merely done out of an enforced sense of obligation. Big Tree and The Woodland Trust most likely have an aim of increasing footfall at their sites, a blank log will demonstrate the required result as effectively as a long essay. We're all different and it's no good expecting everyone to be the same as us.
  4. If you're getting so little joy from a hobby or activity that the lack of a thank you causes you stress then it's time to move on to another hobby or cause.
  5. If you want to be part of the math trade then you'll need to send an email to Ashallond. Then you'll be added to the access list and be able to enter your trades in the list. I've already done that and received a reply but sadly I'm still not able to access the spreadsheet ;(
  6. I still don't seem to be able to access the spreadsheet at all ;(

  8. At some point you have to balance the risk to yourself balanced on a wheel, holding on with one hand and sweeping snow with the other against the minimal risk of the snow causing an issue if it comes off whilst you're driving.
  9. WELSH LOVESPOON II Our new coin should be with us any day now. We'll keep you all posted with further details including how to order as soon as it arrives.
  10. Why would anyoine contact Natural England? AIUI they are not landowners. Trying to find an actual landowner is often very difficult. Natural England are the body responsible for scheduling SSSI's in England and would therefore have a good idea of who the landowner is. Seems a sensible place to start your enquiries. And, as I said they've been very positive with people who have contacted them so far. I wouldn't expect NE to disclose the details of a landowner to anyone who asked. The fact that land is classed as an SSSI doesn;t mean that the owners details can be given out willy nilly.

  12. Disable your wifi and the onsite wifi won't know you're there?
  13. The joy is in the hunt and part of the hunt is about taking a bit of time to select good caches. Nothing has changed.
  14. A PDA running Memory Map is the best geocaching tool you could wish for. Have they somehow crippled this unit to make it as poor as you allege?
  15. Why should his cache pages improve to meet your criteria? Some people like talking and writing and some don't, why not appreciate the fact that all folks are different instead of moaning about it?
  16. Truly magnificent cache box's are Ammunition Box's they cost a little more and can be harder to find but always worth the effort... (Gerrits) Always try and places a larger Cache when ever possible (Gerrits) Size isn't everything (uktim)
  17. No probs, it has been answered, and your point is interesting What this discussion has raised, in my opinion, is the issue of a non-concensus on the obtaining of permissions for placing caches. This seems fairly odd, given our law-crazed state, and perhaps could do with some structure? Granted, a lot of local councils, as well as national organisations have given their permission, but it seems there's no hard-and-fast rule for obtaining permission Are we to just carry on applying individually to these organisations? Or should there be a national structure for people applying for permission to place a cache? All opinions, experience etc. are welcome, but please don't put anyone down - this is an open discussion, and will help not only me as a newbie, but all newbies We have confusion because we seem to use a double standard where land owned by a few select bodies requires proof of permission but the rest of it doesn't. I'd suggest we need a single standard, either permission is required for all caches or it is never required.
  18. As long as they have a nice big warning sign so you can slow down in good time. I'm not in favour of sneaky hidden speed traps, as they are designed to raise funds rather than improve road safety. Whats the use of putting up warning signs. All you have to do then is drive like a moron and slow down when you see the signs. Speed cameras should be a better deterrant if we all have to remember that they could be anywhere without warning.
  19. Dakars don't look aggressive they're hairdressers 4x4s
  20. I've experienced a simlar problem a few times and it's usually been possible to sort it by deleting or renaming the userdata-Memory-Map.mmo file. If the data is important it's usually possible to rename the file start MM and then import your data from the renamed file.
  21. I'll second that. The HTC Touch 2 gives the most acurate and steady GPS performance I've found on any device.
  22. It only takes a few minutes on MAGIC to find plenty of SSSIs that have no access, AONBs often include large areas of enclosed land where there is no access and the same applies to every National Park I've visited recently. You can visit the Brecon Beacons National Park or Shropshire Hills AONB but you don't have the right to wander wherever you please. It is impossible to state that an Earthcache is on land that has access rights just because it is on land within one of these areas and it does no-one any favours if you are posting misleading information on the matter.
  23. Firstly the existance of an SSSI, National Parks or AONB doesn't mean that an area is open for access, I'd suggest checking on your facts before spouting such inaccurate drivel. Secondly no-one is stopping you visitng any area, believe it or not you can visit places without caching
  24. The difference is that National Park Authorities and Natural England ( I assume you mean Natural England rather than English Nature?) aren't landowners. You seem pretty ill-informed for someone with so many opinions ;(
