  1. I remember geocaching before selective availability was turned off. However we were not looking for a container, rather a hanglider pilot that crashed into the trees on the side of a mountain. The GPS did get us withing earshot and the FTF prize was dinner and beer at the expense of the pilot.
  2. I have done trans Canada and US trips and comparitavely found the trans Canada trip much more boring but since you've travelled much of the states at least Canada will be new. I have rented a car for a one way trip from toronto to vancouver and pretty much every place quoted me $2000 - $4000. I found one company and now can't remember which one, possibly budget, from the airport in TO to YVR for $850 or so.
  3. What, in case you are unable to undertake some minor data housekeeping, related to an Internet-based game, for a couple of hours? Considering PQs are the most common reason customers shell over money to GS, yes, issues with PQs should be addressed or at least acknowledged immediately. PQs not working can be a significant problem if you need them to go caching, obviously you're not so you don't need them right now, that doesn't mean others don't.
  4. I understand I don't want it either, #1 worst idea I heard today.
  5. One "solution" is to "play it safe." Only post to "count down the cheeseballs and win a prize in 100 years" threads. Or word association (& download a censor app like kids's forums use). And avoid risking jokes on the hot dog thread (like one northern poster who skated to the very edge of the thin ice!). And never, ever, ever post a picture of the Swedish bikini team.
  6. There is a folder called Garmin which in turn contains files and other folders, one of which is called GPX, this is where you should paste your files to.
  7. A better question might be: as an oldtimer do you feel valued?
  8. I still remember when # was a pound sign, my dad still remembers when it was a tic-tac-toe board.
  9. Isn't this page a carbon copy of page 11 which was a carbon copy of page 7? Can't we just all agree hiking events now are the same but different? See you all on page 19.
  10. Echoing my agreement with Keystone. That is what I have understood as well. Isn't this just another reason why lab caches should either be real caches or not caches at all instead of something in between?
  11. My point was that I searched for a cache in a way that was natural and made sense to me only to be thwarted and as a result I had to resort to the app to get the info I needed. I believe this is constructive feedback, I do not need alternative methods, I figured them out, point is, why did I have to? You have the potential of a great search, there are some nice features, fix, don't defend the shortcomings. Well... I wouldn't say he 'defended the shortcomings'. He merely provided an alternative, and not being of the programmer team and being a forum moderator the best he can do is help. Everyone loves to jump on moderators as if they are somehow responsible, a representative of Groundspeak Proper... more than likely a 'power' in this forum that replies is a volunteer forum moderator just trying to help. Whether they agree or disagree with users' opinions on Groundspeak products is irrelevant (and they'll likely not comment on the matter in order to remain neutral) - they're just trying to help as best they can. Keep that in mind! The final sentence was not directed at Keystone but rather at GS, I should have made that clearer.
  12. Did you past the PQ into the GPX folder?
  13. Actually I was a premium member before searching for a single cache, mind you I had a few beer, I was on the bus and I was bored. Originally I liked the new search, today i ws out finding a few caches before a PI event and wanted to check on my iPhone when it started, I then saw a note on the cache page that due to the heavy rain they moved it to a nearby shelter and gave a GC code of a cache for coordinate so I hit the search. Not thinking I entered the GC into the main text box and of course got the DNF then I went into the filter and entered the GC code, another DNF, guess I forgot to reset something. At this point I went into the app and used the search there to get me the coordinates of the cache so in my one real life experience with the new search I'd say it's a fail. 15. I tried only selecting event and got DNF and it won't work. It will work if I select has corrected coordinates or if I enter something in search only in..... But I have to say it is confusing when sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, just depends on what is selected.
  16. Broken? I've tried three browsers on both a PC and an iPad and no matter what filters I select or don't I get a DNF, can't get any results. I can only get results if I select a location.
  17. Goto search click change filters enter your state in the "search only in..." box. click search click "placed on". Click it again.
  18. I never used the search function before, I just set up Different PQS for different info and just previewed them as needed an it works awesome. After playing with the new search I like it, the only 2 things that could be improved is increase the distance if you select a location and the ability to creat a PQ of the search results.
  19. I spoof logged in as you using the latest searches that you ran and I am getting results. Either you corrected your query or something is up with your browser. I am using safari on iPad, it does work if I enter a location. Edit, odd, now it works fine even with no location.
  20. Actually just selecting caches I haven't found gives me a DNF.
  21. When I search for caches with updated coordinates all is fine but when I add the caches I haven't found filter I get a DNF.
  22. I use pens for laughs when I'm caching with friends. Seems I have bad luck with them, I loose them, they break, the explode I've had a squirrel steal one. Seldom do I make it through a whole day with the same pen so it's usually worth a good laugh.
  23. Given that traditionals are still the most common cache type by several orders of magnitude, it's going to take a very long time for this to become an indoor game. I did say slowly
  24. Anyone ever stop to think maybe GS is slowly turning geocaching into an indoor game? It started with puzzles, now this, what's next?
