  6. and if you dont approve of the travel bug, or its mission, feel free to ignore it. unlike some geocachers who will remove/destroy them. Date:Wed, 19 Sep 2007 10:32 am <name removed by moderator> posted a note for Geocoin Club - December 06 Geocoin (Geocoin Club - December 06 Geocoin) at 9/19/2007 Log Date: 9/19/2007 These coin copies are getting frustrating. It's might not be quite as bad if there was some indication that they were fake before a cacher went to retrieve it from a cache, only to find that it was some cheap photocopy. Since this is not a real coin, this item is going to be removed from circulation and destroyed. Although the 'owner' will undoubtedly claim it is stealing, it would be hard to support such an argument when the coin is still in their possession. Releasing these copies really cheapens the experience for the cacher. Consider placing something like 'fake coin' or 'photocopy coin' in the title so those that scan the cache page will realize what it truly contains. Even if they had though to glance at the coin page, there was nothing to indicate that it was not real. 7. i have participated in this many times, and recently, i have come to wish all were released outside the US. recently, a cacher <link removed by moderator> has seemed to 'hunt down' the coins i have released (i make xerox laminates) and destroyed them. at least those in foregin countries just make disappointed comments about the copy. it took someone that lives within 20 miles to find that one. 8. it would be nice if the search function was not as complicated as it is (this is a function i think regressed in the update).......searching by coords is a good way (you could navigate to a category and just search within it as well as from the root directory)........otherwise you have to look for a nearby mark from one you know....
  9. i had the new forum (that is the 'portal', right?) lock my browser trying to insert a link......i dont like that it was all of a sudden: new forums. they said they want to transfer the 'old', but it is a PITA to have to navigate to these (through GC.com--i had a posting notification which brought me back here). wh not just lock this area, and move to the new? there can be a link to bring you back to the history/archive (here)..... i am not enthused about rss.......hey, i have learned html (well, a little) from wm.com, but how much more of a nerd can a hobby (is that what it is) make you? i am getting lost in having a life, posting marks i find, looking for new things to seek out and mark, going back through areas to pick up things in new(er) categories, and, oh yea, geocache.......
  10. i downloaded a rss 'reader'....yet another program on my pc i dont care for.....it then operates (like outlook), and reads the gobledygook you speak of, and it then looks like a notification email...... it seems that someone above stated that they show in 'your' google page, hows that? i wat just hoping for something like the watchlist (where you set the paramaters) that would send out an email..... i would like to see something about nearest waymarks near my home.....all i can find is the all new marks 'feed'..... if this rss is to remain, it would be nice to know 'how to use it'......
  11. how about the logging date not be reset when you move to log a new mark......as a lot of visits will happen on the same date--much like the gc.com feature.....
  12. This should be fixed now. All new log emails will contain a functioning link. nope, just got it again...
  13. what happened to the search by coords function? this might be ot, but it used to be so obvious....i go to a category and use the search options on the right.....i no longer a 'advanced search options' link.....
  14. upon uploading like the 4th pic to a submitted waymark i was taken to a page saying: "image preview on Total Records: - Page: of prev<<<[]>>>next Total Records: - Page: of prev<<<[]>>>next *This gallery may contain images that are hidden due to your present location or waymark settings." i tried to right click forums--to open in a new window--but was taken to a blank link
  15. i go to my page. click owned marks click RUSBM go to HOME.......
  16. the op is right on target.... but in creating a mark there can be multiple needs-- -for a historical marker you need a pic of the plaque -for a library you need a pic of the building & sign stating such (if not able to ledgibly do it in the same frame) -for a masonic lodge you need a pic with your gps it is getting harder and harder to rember ALL OF THIS every day--in addition to, have i marked/visited that already. in the peer review ideal Waymarking is founded upon, if i have missed something (i forgot to take a close up shot of the clock dial/gps with the object) those that visit my mark can help to fill these gaps and errors in information presented--while hopefully adding new info as able.....
  17. I don't understand. Are you saying that you've received a Visited Log on one of your Waymarks that the person said "Visited" and that was it? The Blue Quasar i have recieved logs like this.....as long as they have pics i dont mind this.....say what you want with a pic....you should always have something to say about your time there (talk about differences in what was seen versus the description/images in gallery), at least you could describe the weather. neither did i, until i read your posting. now that i am thinking about it, that will be my forst ignored category--i will never have any interest whatsoever in that realm.....i never understood how this could be a category (other than figuring out their location--what are the coords for--for some sort of diabolical plan.
  18. how about including the 'category' search function to the home page with the address search (well, its actually putting it back on that page, as it moved in 2.0) an dont forget about a 'WMxxxx' search field....
  19. when you click 'nearest waymarks' the result page has the 'appropriate directory' displayed (at the top of every page). all fine and dandy, but can take up a lot of space. i would like to suggest that it be split into collumns, or even worked into the left most collumn--sort of like exploring folders on your computer.
  20. on the my waymarks page the following information is displayed: Date of creation (the day i submitted/saved the waymark) date of last visit (the latest date selected in the create log process) but can 'last updated on' (the last time i clicked on the 'update waymark' button) be added? being able to sort by this as well. with so many marks it is difficult to keep up with such things, and with marks created over a year ago, it would be nice to be easily able to refresh with any newfound information.
  21. i just got a waymark log notice...i clicked the 'visit this waymark' link, which took me to the directory.... edit: then the visit this log took me to a 'blank' Waymarking page, on which none of the links worked--all 'blank' ends....
  22. the military installation category states(ed) 'all things military'.....what is more military than a tank? a few months ago i submitted one at a VFW. by using that in the name [VFW #'s Tank], i was denied. upon further discussion it was resolved that 'all things military' is not as broad as it reads--i wonder if that text has changed or there is clarification. i have voted and await the switch being turned so that i might transfer those marks--i have to create them again, as there is no way to change the category in the description.
  23. hey guys, just downloaded a 'loc' the default file name was 'Waymarking' can this be changed to the Waymarking # (ie: wmXXXXX)?
  24. The solution will be to allow waymarks to literally overlap each other. We've been talking about the idea of creating relationships between waymarks, like: x waymark is inside y waymark x waymark is similar to y waymark x waymark is identical to y waymark x waymark is related to y waymark Once this is in place we'll end up "stacking" the waymarks so they make sense and so they "merge" their data and attributes in a useful way. So no. I think that in some ways we may end up overlapping categories but it is all for the common good. And I do think there is a certain ragged appeal about this approach. The worst thing to do would be to rely on folksonomies (keywords). *shiver* i think it would be great to use the category icons for multi location marks--take a civil war monument, many are both a CWM and on the NRHP, but there is only 1 true x, y, z for the monument. so the desctiprions should display the icon for the current category (CWM) and have the other (NRHP) also displayed--the issue is when the two marks are owned by different users..... and then what about mammoth cave national park? i have marked many of the boundary markers, and every other mark associated with the park is within them. who will choose what marks are similar/identitical/related?
  25. yes, as with caching, deleting a log changes the stats. i totally agree. believe it or not, i have been sniped on a few marks. i put it off for a few days, and someone else posted it. i then logged their mark, mentioning my shortfall. the WM.com log dating system goes back to 1999. so the earliest log would have that date. i often do not get to post marks or have them approved on the same day. i always log the date i was there, not the date i was making the log. i try to go beyond the set picture requirements (or keep it open to see what others saw on their visit, as they should be a lot more informed than all those that came before them), and using the date in the file name helps me keep track of the many pics acquired in my life. no, logging them on the same day is fine, but you need to log the date you were actually there and upload the appropriate pics. i try to go beyond the set picture requirements (or keep it open to see what others saw on their visit, as they should be a lot more informed than all those that came before them), and using the date in the file name helps me keep track of the many pics acquired in my life. it is obvious what we are working against, and not as easy to prove as with GC.com. nothing can ever be completely stopped--as in these secret caching clubs that have caches in places they are banned--but this thread was penned in an effort to take a proactive stance on the issue. through doing this the issue is in the open, and through openly sharing information about marking ethics, moderators know how to spot inconsistencies while letting users know that it is frowned upon and actions can be taked to rectify the situation. as with caching there is a 'write note' for Waymarking logs. writing a note does not (or has not yet to my knowledge) affect the stats one bit. early in the site with only GA historical markers, i had a person armchair surf through my marks. they chose one and wrote a note thanking me for my glimpse into history. when you go to a waymark and visit it (have sufficient proof), log it as such. otherwise, if you just want to 'share your thoughts', write a note. but how many users of the G word would see the site, go through the effort to create an account and then log a false visit? i think this would greatly eliminate this risk. i would be greatly enthusiastic about 'others' writing notes about my marks and providing information i could incorporate into the descriptions, pics too.......
