  1. One of the things I like to do on complicated multis like this one is organize the waypoints in tables. I think it makes the task seem a bit less formidable to the hunters. It can be tricky to fit the html in under the 5000 character limit though!

    Ape Caves?

My map has the cave entrance located at N46 07.422 W122 13.019. The list of nearby caches for that location would be here. I see that it is only 3 crow miles from GC8, which is one of the oldest active caches anywhere!
  3. Portland hospital seeks Klingon Interpreter. Gosh, you oregonians are a wacky bunch!
  4. I hear that personal EPIRB's are going to be available some day. Similar to this boaters model. Of course, if your stuck down in a canyon and your batteries only last 24 hours, you are still gonna need a lucky satellite flyby...
  5. Huh, what a fluke! Just noticed that it was my Alki Tour #2 cache where Moonman travel bug reappeared after nine months! And he only sat there one day so he's on the road again!
  6. Well, there is always hope... My Mobile Mouse TB (TBF5E) disappeared from Ochoco Viewpoint (GC3C5D) sometime between October 20th and November 24th of last year, and was not heard from again until last Saturday, May 3, when yumitori found him in the Johnson Creek geocache (GCD2E0) 350 miles away! I suppose it was taken by someone that doesn't log their finds. How irritating! Oh well, whatever!
  7. Back in 1995, I was boat camping on Blake Island (where GCB0DD is today), and I had to leave to take my nephew to the airport for his flight home. Problem was, the fog had visibility down to a quarter mile, and I had to cross the shipping lanes. I managed the 12 mile trip to the Des Moines marina with just a chart and a compass, but it wasn't easy. Bought an Eagle Explorer GPS, and have made several foggy passages since and it is MUCH easier! Have since upgraded to Garmin Map76 for Geocaching. Anyone wanna buy a boat?
  8. Yea, I did some Lazyboy & MM caches on Maui a year and a half ago during my measly one week at the Polo Beach Club. It's a tough life I tell ya. How those folks can geocache without wool socks & long johns is beyond me. You seen that sig line "Real Men cache in shorts"? Well, on Maui, only tough guys wear long pants, and SCUBA gear is for wimps. I remember thinking if I see one more free diver pass me at 80 feet I'm gonna puke .
  9. A guy named John Chen (user name BigKid) does events like this. I am sure he could give you some good ideas. You can get in touch with him through his web site here.
  10. I think some people are taking this activity WAY too seriously. We're hunting Tupperware, not bagging 8,000-meter peaks. My observations: 1. I have seen no credible indications or reports of significant environmental impacts from the cache machines. 2. Cache Machine participants have enjoyed them immensely. 3. Cache Machine logs meet the generally accepted requirements for logging a find - visit cache, sign log. Period. 4. Sitting in a room and signing logbooks brought to a central location does NOT meet the generally accepted requirements for logging a find. 5. I believe what is actually ticking some people off is that they feel the cache machines deflate the value of their own finds and hides (like "I got to 100 or 300 or 500 finds the HARD way"). To this I say that find totals are fairly meaningless anyway, and cache machines could actually be performing a service by pointing this out. It's like the old saying "A photo never lies" - this is not true, and never was, but the era of digital photography has ended the argument. It is ironic that cache machines are all about the numbers, but ultimately serve to minimize the significance of the numbers. Number of finds is not a meaningful credential anyway, so racking up finds in a cache machine is not like getting a degree from a diploma mill! When all is said and done, I think the most significant things the participants take away from Geocaching are the experiences, the fun, the journeys, and the friends. If the participants enjoy them and they don’t cause mass destruction, I thing the cache machines are great. If cache machines don't fulfill someone’s ideal of purity of the sport, I can live with that.
  11. Cheer up Wayne, you have LOTS to look foreward to!
  12. Well, it's a little late now, but the closest caches to the SEA terminal are actually these. You could have walked to my two caches North of the Airport on a 3 hour layover (I had long layovers in mind when I placed them). Heck, with a little warning, I probably would have driven you around Skydiver! If it comes up again, let me know!
  13. Yea, I saw a report on the looting of the National Meuseum, and got pretty bummed out about it. The curators were so sad they were weeping. They quoted an archeologist saying he thought this would be the most remembered legacy of this war many years from now.
  14. Too funny! uplink is designed to immerse the player into the world as it stands in the year 2010 uplink is past the beginning tutorial uplink is to command the spacecraft uplink is a bit of an anomaly uplink is to showcase the innovative things people are doing with their palm uplink is ready uplink is also moving into the handheld gps market for golfers who prefer to walk uplink is one of the most exciting features of flux uplink is available in two configurations uplink is fun and lets you live out your cyberpunk dreams without the feds coming for your sorry butt uplink is available 24 hours a day uplink is relatively unconstrained uplink is switched to "on" uplink is built uplink is rock solid uplink is one year old today uplink is? click here to find out uplink is a simulated hacking tool uplink is trivial to do and works uplink is really a very interesting concept
  15. Sounds like fun! I'm booked into site 32 at the North end of the campground for Friday & Saturday (away from the land yachts).
  16. I have heard that NiMH batteries do not reach their full capacity until they have been cycled a few times, so out of the box is probably not the best time for a test.
  17. I have been wanting to do those, but fact is I ain't much of a night person anymore. When you get up at 5 AM everyday, sundown usually doesn't inspire a hearty LET'S GO GEOCACHING! Especially when its 30 miles eache way just for starteres. However, one of these days, I'll probably get up at 4 AM so I can do one or two before dawn...
  18. I just found this neat software that is similar to ExpertGPS except it has a function that combines and averages track logs into what it calls Trail Networks. It then plots them on Satellite photos like Expert GPS. You might find this pretty handy for your task. http://www.topofusion.com/network.php They have a free demo version available, and purchase is only $40.
  19. I pick May 20, just cause that is my birthday! -edit- oops, I was 2 minutes too late; what are the odds of that! I guess great minds think alike .
  20. OK, so I'm a slug. My first year I averaged 5, the second year 15 caches per month. I am picking up speed though...
  21. In Washington state, I have seen several hollowed out logs, a fake stump, fake rocks with micros in them, a fake mailbox, a fake electrical box, and a cache hanging in a tree with live lichens for camo. Execution is the whole thing. Some things that work primo in one location are inapproptiate in another place. One of the great things about geocaching is that you really get to use your imagination when you craft a devious hide!
  22. Go to this page and scroll down to the BE200 case: http://www.thegpsstore.com/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe/site/gamap76.htm?L+thegpsstore+brwr5707+1044937374
  23. Nice job on the video! You might want to consider .divx format for your video files - better quality than .wmv with smaller file size than .mpg video. This format is often used to stream near dvd quality video, or compress a dvd to fit on a cd. The codec is available free at www.divx.com
  24. Buckets are pretty slow. Just think of what you could do with a bit of wheelbarrow technology! http://www.wheelbarrowfreestyle.com/main.html
  25. Hey, I don't think Kaniksu is being a troll. It seems like quite a stretch to me that coulda, shoulda, woulda qualifies for a find. I might give ya a gold star on your report card, but if the cache is gone, you are TOO LATE to log a find.
