Thanks guys, I'll have a play, hopefully I'll be able to fathom something out. The USB - RS232 lead I have was supplied with driver installer software on CD-ROM, was thinking this might conflict with the GPS or the laptop recognising the GPS???

I'm having the same issues by the looks of things, I'll try the Prolific link. Just wondering however, my USB adaptor came with software to install the cable as "hardware", could this conflict with the GPS as the intended hardware??

Recently bought a Garmin eTrex Summit second hand from eBay, it's in full working order and a joy to use. It is supplied with the RS232 9-pin connection cable, and, as my laptop doesn't have this socket, I bought a RS232 - USB adaptor. The hardware for the adaptor has been accepted by my laptop, but I'm unable to sync the GPS with my software (I have OziExplore, Base Camp and Easy GPS). Anyone had the same issues??

I suppose what you want is, like you said, something that reflects your personality. For my first couple of caches I'm leaving some wooden beads to wear/fiddle with. Then I'll probably (attempt to!!) start carving little animals or something quirky - keep your eyes peeled if your in my neck of the woods
