Oh absolutely. Like I said above, anyone with at least some understanding of copyright could've told you before that using somebody else's artwork for your own commercial purposes is illegal and can get out into trouble. That's why the outcome of this ruling was completely expected. The fair use clause is nice when it applies, but in this case it clearly didn't. No argument about any of that. And RSG was assuming not everyone has that knowledge. You mean lefties and righties? No, seriously, the severity of a crime is determined by social and cultural rules, not by law, law determines the punishment. There is NO difference in legal sense. Right vs wrong... there is no gray. Either you commit a crime or you don't, there are no varying degrees. You are innocent or you are guilty, there is no "kinda" guilty. Is stealing a candy bar from the corner store same as killing someone? Yes... it's wrong. I am not saying there are crimes that carry a stiffer or more harsh penalty, all I am saying is a crime is a crime. Remember we used to stone people to death for blaspheming. How sever is that? (Talking about punishment fitting a crime is a whole new can of worms. ) Just because society looks at copyright infringement as a "less sever" crime, does not make it right nor legal. Again, just because people are "ok" with others illegally obtaining copyrighted material, does make it OK. It's still illegal. Huh? See, this is where you loose me, they are the same. It's a crime, and I say again, just because people are "ok" with it does not make it legal. If you are breaking the law, you deserve to feel guilty. How is that a lie? "Copyright is a set of exclusive rights granted to the author or creator of an original work, including the right to copy, distribute and adapt the work. Copyright does not protect ideas, only their expression." According to Wikipedia. Plagiarism is the copying of someones work and calling it your own.

That's not true, it's a very different thing, both morally and legally. Copyright infringement is not theft, it's copyright infringement. Not to split hairs or fuel the fire, but how are they different? Wrong is wrong. Illegal is illegal. I don't think that RSG is debating the definition of theft. I think she is trying to educate people to the fact that using the artwork of someone else without permission is copyright infringement, is illegal, and there is now a ruling to prove it.

All names have been sent. If you signed up and did not receive a name please email me. This was my first attempt at hosting a mission. I've learned some things (like to find a different program to randomize names. ) Thank you to all for your patients. Sorry for any confusions. Now bring on the fun!!
-
I still have not gotten all names out. The program I used to randomize the names messed up and I have to go back through everything I sent. I apologize for this mix up, every one will have a name by the end of the day today.

Just a reminder that there is still 3 days left to sign up!

Oh boy, I'm behind!! Nutmeg (female cat) Email Sent - 2/22/11 Name Received - yes. (don't remember when, hehe) Mission Sent - 3/14/11 Mission Received - 3/14/11 Riley Finn, it is on it's way, I promise. Sorry, I got a little behind. Nutmeg received her mission the other day. (I'll get pictures up shortly.) She was a happy happy girl. She LOVES the treats (all of them), goes crazy over the lazer toy. I had her running up the walls... litterally! The cat grass is perfect, she was just complaining that hers has died. Ooops. The coins are awesome, never seen either one before. And a wonderful little note. (Oh, BTW, I remember those posts. ) Cheddar (male cat) Email Sent - 2/22/11 Name Received - 3/16/11 Mission Sent - Mission Received - Cheddar is looking forward to his mission. He keeps tring to steal Nutmegs treats.

WOW!! That's fantastic!! Congratulations! Would you be able to get me a photo, so I can add it to the list?

i dunno, but look at your total numbers. 400 coins. that is a LOT of coins, can you reasonably expect to sell all 400? rsg I used those numbers as an example. From what others are saying if you mint over 100 of any one version it can't be called an LE. So if you mint 400 coins in four different versions with only 100 of each version and say you'll never re-mint those versions, then there all LEs! I disagree. To me, to be able to claim a title of LE, that version needs to have been made in a lesser number, a limited edition. You have to have a regular edition to have a limited edition. IMHO

Very nice!! Congrats. Maybe this is a sign not to give up?

Good advice. I guess it's my don't trust anyone attitude. Living for years in NYC will do that to ya. As the saying goes.... If you love something set it free. I don't think it is a bad idea to check up on a coin if it has not been dropped for a while, but I am of the firm belief not "If you love it let it go," but if I can deal with someone stealing it, ok. Never release something you are not willing to part with. That's why I collect. Oh, and by the way, I've released about 500 coins myself, never expecting to see one again. But, that is just me.

*picture courtesy of Geocoins.net I think they were only found in caches. It wasn't a mystery who was putting them out, but maybe it was and I just knew. They surfaced in the Pacific Northwest first. From what I know of this coin, it is considered a Mystery Coin. It was only left in puzzle caches, but I don't think the identity of the cacher was known. (I could be wrong.)

Anyone have a Triad coin to trade? I've been looking for awhile now.

I have to admit that it looks like the numbers are falling fast for the released coins. But in my area of the world, coin collecting seems to be falling off too. We seem to be loosing more people to those evil little round path thingies. I know that personally I have released over 500 (activated) coins. I also know that I have about 800 coins in collection, so for me, only 60% have been released. WOWWWWWWWWWWW !!! you've put a lot of coin $$$$$$$$$$$ out there. Yes and I love coins that much. Edited to add: The majority of the coins released were DarrylW4 and I's personal coins. I've also been releasing coins since 2006.
-
Oh, percent of other people? I'd say around 3%

This is the: Yin Yang Koi Mystery (it's actually the Japanese variation of Yin Yang and would be called Inyodo, but that's beside the point!). Mark, I love that name! Inyodo Koi mystery coin. Is there an official name of this coin yet? Aren't we lucky to have found such a great hobby with such giving people. Thank you so much mystery senders, you brighten everyone's day! I think that it is officially the "Yin Yang Koi." But I'm not expert, so please correct me if I am wrong. I do believe this is an older coin. Until today, I have only seen or heard of this coin once. Glad to see it come back. Also, and more importantly , CONGRATS!!! to all who have received this wonderful little coin.
