  1. USB carries power while serial does not. You have to supply power to the GPS if you use serial. I think the USB unit updates position more frequently because USB is faster. You can install GPSgate if you want to use Garmin GPS with other mapping software. I tried it with GPS 18 and MS Street & Trips works fine.
  2. Could you just put the nut back on? Or the connector has been pushed inside the unit?
  3. It is a guy in another forum. What I mean in my original post is I bought a 60C from a guy here in Canada. Since this is still to be settle I would rather not disclose the name now. I just sent an email to Garmin this morning and waiting for a response.
  4. No, it looks like the backlight is a thin electro-lumininescent which got busted. It needs to be replaced. Don't want to risk breaking it.
  5. I got one lately and have problem with the backlight. See this thread. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=109106 Someone said it was because of a drop. The sell said he did not have any problem before the unit was shipped to me. I wonder if your friend also had the same problem.
  6. I took mine off recently because I got a 60C with backlight problem. See this thread. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=109106 To take off the cover remove all 8 screws at the back and he bolt of the external antenna connector. The top portion of the back cover is kind of glue on to the rubber internal antenna housing. Then there is a black plastic frame which snaps onto the front cover. The main board will come out when you take this plastic frame out. THen you can clean the front cover from inside. Good luck.
  7. This is exactly what the seller said and he does not have the receipt for warranty claims. It was insured and was shipped with bubble bag. There is no apparent damage to the package itself so I am not sure if insurance will cover this. Do you guys really think its been dropped. There is no sign of abuse on the unit itself. It looks like there are problems on the underside of the LCD. This display is completely perfect under the sun. I will contact Garmin to see what they can do.
  8. Hi everyone, This is first post. I bought a 60C from a guy here. The unit was described as "brand new" condition. The unit has a shadow patter in the backlight as illustrated below. I wonder if anyone seen this or is this a common problem. I opened the unit and it doesn't seem that there were water inside.
