  1. Check out caches GC11RXQ and GCZK93 that are on the North Country Trail in beautiful Kimball Pines Park in Michigan
  2. Check out this cache, GCK21Y, on the Pine River. Should lead you to ones around it. Happy kayaking----I'm also a kayaker but so far don't have the "stones" to do the Pine River---yet.
  3. For your Underground Railroad trip make sure you check out these two caches in Battle Creek, MI GC8FC5---a geocache at a beautiful bronze statue in tribute to the Underground RR and also GCXN4X---a geocache in the cemetery where Erastus Hussey (a stationmaster for the Underground RR) and Sojourner Truth are buried.
  4. AddZappers----Do you have a dog you can take with you when caching? I'm a pretty big guy but I usually have a weapon (i.e. knife and a pretty sturdy walking stick to whack someone with) or I take Daisy, my 91 lb. pit bull/boxer mix with me. You just never know anymore.
  5. Being in the USAF made me smarter because the G.I. Bill put me through college and helped get my bachelor's degree. I was stationed at Beale AFB in the mid-70's working aircraft maintenance on the SR-71's, U-2's and KC135's. But what a piece of cake compared to my late, great father who was in the Army's Third Infantry with General Patton. He was in the Battle of Bastogne and the Battle of the Bulge then took Northern Germany.
  6. Living in Michigan I like to hike in the woods during winter and also I like to snowshoe. I've found two caches this winter that were complete ice blocks (on the ground tupperware caches) and couldn't be opened. If these were my caches I'd want to take better care because when they thaw they probably aren't going to be in the best of shape. That said if you place a cache on the ground where you know it'll be covered with snow once winter hits you should describe as such. The cache owner knows, or should know, the area and how much snow is received and how accessible the cache will be in a normal winter. I'm pretty new to geocaching and I'm just gaining experience and want to start putting out a couple caches of my own but when I do I want to make them available year round so I'll do my homework and put them at waist or eye level out of the "snow zone".
  7. Oh well, the coins probably would of had Bill Clinton or Mike Huckabee's face on them. Who needs that!!!
  8. Recently I sent away for some tourist info on the state of Arkansas thinking this summer of traveling there for some camping and kayaking. Anyway, in the tour guide book (2008) there is a whole page (#32) devoted to geocaching and also the state, in honor of the 75th anniversary of their state park system, is going to release 5000 geocoins. Also, in the back of the book they have the gps coordinates for landmarks, state parks, hotels, etc. I know I sound like I'm one of Arkansas' publicity schmucks (I'm not----still living in the Michigan tundra) but I thought putting out this info was very cool. Here's the link---- http://www.arkansasstateparks.com/things-to-do/geocaching/
  9. What software do you all use to create your personalize cache cards? Is there a place online to find good templates to help with this? Thanks
  10. I bought a pair of Leki Enzians for $19.99 at Gander Mountain today (regular priced at $59.99). Big Sale, I'm a Happy Camper!
  11. You guys are GREAT--------- Just bought a 500 and I thought I had a defective cable, turned it around like suggested and, Bam!, it works. Thanks.
