  1. Many thanks and thats exactly what Iam looking for. All the parameters make sence other than the r=0. Any idea what that is for?
  2. Does anyone know if there is a web api for Flash Earth so that a location can be addressed directly from a URL? i.e. with Live local you can use the following URL to go location at N55.78535 W4.19405 Click Here
  3. Downloaded it and it does produce some interesting results. thanks.
  4. I remember once seeing a map of the UK showing where there were clusters of caches but can't remember where it saw it. Can anyone help out or is there software to do this now?
  5. At least the virtual caches are still 'logable' but its a pity that new ones cant be added. My favorite has to be the one on the site of the Blàr Allt a' Bhonnaich near Stirling.
  6. Within Memory Map there is a setting called Magnetic Variation. (In V5 this can be found in the Mode menu then Units) According to the Ordanance survey 'Magnetic Variation' is defined as the difference between True and Magnetic North) but if you want to get a magnetic bearing from an OS map then you need a value called the Grid Magnetic Angle If you don't change this setting then Memory Map displays True bearings so the question is, if you want to get magnetic bearings (to solve a puzzle cache) should you use the value for 'Magnetic Variation' or enter the 'Grid Magnetic Angle' (Currently there is a about a 1º difference between the two angles here, which, when projected over 2km makes a big difference in the final cache location!) To find the value for your local Grid Magnetic Angle Click Here To find the value for your local Magnetic Variation Click Here (Note: Magnetic Variation and Magnetic Declination are the same thing) Can any one help as the program manual is as good as useless?
  7. If you look in the UK part of the forums there is a completely different view of the changes as the local co-ordinate system is no longer on the cache page and the conversion ishown (via a link) is not correct either. Hope we can get the old maps back as unlike previous changes the prevailling view in the UK part of the forum is that this has been a step backwards. See here http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=164459
  8. Another moan is the cache size indicator has also changed and is now a graphic and just to make it interesting there is no clue as to what is what! The smallest picture is almost illegible on my injet printer and goodnes knows what it will be like should a spot of rain land on the print out and cause the ink to run. Most of the changes in the oast have been for the beter but its a backward step not to have the uk grid directly on the page and in a format that no-one uses. Perhaps the old design could be put back as it was more usefull than the current offering.
  9. Happy to put my name down for North Lanarkshire. Is there a definative list of who is placing a cache and in which county/region?
  10. I can't rememebr if there is a macro that ships with GSAK or not. If he took less than 2 mins then I think there must be. If he tok a bit longer then he probably installed a macro to run. Suggest you see this tread for more details on how to do this http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...view=getnewpost
  11. Thanks, exactly what I was looking for. Now off to try it!
  12. Thanks, just wondered if I had overlooked something but clearly I havn't!
  13. I have about 20 or so TB's and wondered if there was any way to get a list of co-ords where they are so that I can easily display their location on 1 world wide map? any suggestions
  14. currenty available from http://roolku.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/gsak2mm.zip also an alterative set of icons can be found at http://files.dixo.net/lordelphs_icons.zip
  15. Put a nice simple one myself www.bigwolf.co.uk and it gets a fair number of hits. It was put together originally as a place to send people to who want to know a little bit more about what is all about. I'd say go for it if you can be bothered
  16. Well my vote goes for ItsGeocache puzzle cache. It was set in February this year and only myself and 1 other have found it so far! Its rated 5 for the puzzle and 3 for the terrain.
  17. Sad news indeed and other caching forums which Ewan was a contributer have posts also. See Geox Geofrees
  18. must helpful, is there anyway this can be refined to show it country by country?
  19. Thanks to everyone and most interesting responses. Perhaps i will email 'the powers that be' to see what they say. After all as a premium member its sounds like a reasonable request.
  20. My other half (a school teacher) is currently preparing a fun activity for the summer school she runs and was wondering about geocaching. As with all these types of activities the kids need some form of introduction and a lengthy explanation. Part of this was to tell them how many geo-cachers there are here in the UK and how many around the world. I know this is a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' type question but does anyone know how to find out this? Ideally I would like to end up with a list of countries and a number beside each. Apologies if this is somewhere on the gc.com site but so far I can't find it. Thanks BigWolf
  21. There are loads of caches in Edinburgh and one of my favourites is A split personality or there is a nice group of caches down at Cramond also I would suggest looking at Haggis Hunters list of caches by car hope this helps.
  22. Just look at the number of Posts in the forum to see how active the UK is but please give a thought to countries such as mine where a large event would be thought as 50 or more people attending. Looks to me that the only place a Mega event could take place is the USA. The sport is meant to unite people rather than being country specific so I think this development is divisive and unhelpful. It would be much better if the coordinators for each country could set the limit and this way everyone would have a fair share of attending such an event.
