  1. I havent gotten to the pocket queries yet..kinda confused about them. What I am really looking to do is say I go on a random road trip to somewhere 3 hrs away from here and I decide I want to geocache in that area. It would be nice to be able to just turn on my gps unit and have them all right there instead of having to plan ahead and d/l the ones I want in that area before leaving home. Maybe I'm missing out on something here..my c:geo app on the phone has them all right there no matter where Im at. The way I have been doing it is..i decide before hand where Im going...bring up the map on geocache.com site and choose the ones I want to do, then one by one I download them to my Oregon GPS...I know there has to be a way easier way of doing this because it gets quite monotonous doing it one cache at a time and can take me an hour or more to d/l the ones I want.
  2. How can I transfer a cache from my droid app (c:geo) to my GPS (Oregon 450T) Ive been lurking around awhile here and havent seen much on this subject but after doing my own research I have come to the conclusion that it cant be done. It would be great to be able to be out and about to look for a cache and be able to just transfer it over from my phone. I love the c:geo app but it drains my phone battery like crazy. You would think you could hook up the phone to your gps and do it that way. Sorry if this has been talked about and I missed it.
  3. nope just the preloaded maps it came with is all Im using I will tap the map icon to bring the map up after selecting the cache I want to go to and there will be a little blue pin on the actual little geocache icon, but if i tap on the little geocache icon or another POI for instance and that will create or move the red pin to that location..i havent had this gps for very long and I dont see a DIRECT ROUTING anywhere on it, but what I do see is ROUTE PLANNER. Maybe we are not talking about the same things here. I can live with it, its just annoying and in the way sometimes. Im still learning
  4. i kinda played around with it and it still is there..when I tap on the map, the red pin appears and then wherever I tap after that it follows. Its kinda annoying...if i hit the back button, it just goes back to the previous screen where the red pin was previously. or it goes back to the geocache profile screen depending where i was at the time. Im sorry if this seems confusing for anyone to understand, but like when Im trying to navigate to a geocache and Im moving the map around to see what streets I need to go, the pin pops up wherever I touch on the screen. Hope that makes more sense.
  5. Question answered...thank you for your kind response
  6. does anyone know how to get rid of the red pin on the map? It really is an annoyance when trying to do things on the map.
  7. How do you get rid of that pesky red pin on the map? It follows me everywhere I go and gets in my way!
  8. Im still learning how to work with the Oregon. Now I have to try to figure out how to d/l multiple caches in an area without having to do them one by one. I know there is a way and Ive been reading about it. I'm a little slow to find things out, for example, I just realized I could go to the map on the geocache site and see all the geocaches in my state, rather than entering in the zip code or city and getting a list. Sure as hell makes it easier for hunting a specific region or park reserve or wherever
  9. just wondering if you have to download all your geocaches on the oregon. I know my android app finds them automatically and there is no need to download..for instance if your walking a trail and want to know if any geocaches are nearby, can you find them on the oregon or does every one have to be already downloaded. The reason is that i took a walk with a friend on the spur of the moment and wanted to find some geocaches but I couldnt figure out on my Oregon how to find nearby ones, so i figured it wasnt possible.
  10. Just curious to know if there is a difference in looking for night caches vs day caches and what it would be if any.. I haven't come across any caches in my area that specifically say night cache. It sounds like it would be interesting to try, but Im sure more caution would be involved.
  11. sorry...those of us who are new have no clue there are other threads about this. I guess dont post your story if your tired of reading about it...
  12. very creative ideas! I havent hidden a cache yet but plan on it this spring. I cant believe how much the 'Official" stuff costs off the site. I really like the mushroom idea alot! I havent come across anything that creative in my finds yet but that would be cool! And so would the "micro in the woods!"
  13. Ive been dying to geocache for several years since around 2004-2005 and could never find anyone to go with or anyone interested which was a bummer for me. I was married for 25 yrs and could never get my spouse to want to go. Needless to say my marriage failed (all because of geocaching! Not true..) but a year after leaving, I met someone who said they would geocache with me and even went so far to buy a used GPS to go with and almost a year later we are still together caching along, but our first find was along Wisconsin Point. Neither one of us had any clue what we were doing and ended up walking the beach for MILES before we discovered we were on the wrong side of the pier. We gave up and went after a different one which happened to be a historical landmark and not an actual cache but it was a great day and our first official "date" we went on. Thats my first geocaching story and my favorite! We havent found that many caches since, but now that we know what we are doing, we plan on hitting the trails pretty hard this year.
  14. Stamp idea is very cool but also to take the time and add the date and maybe a little note about the cache. Its what I would like to see when I hide my first cache which will be coming up this spring
  15. it has the best reviews (450t) that Ive seen and Ive been researching for about a year now before deciding to purchase the O450t..i was going to get the 500 or 550 but the camera isnt worth the extra $ when my smartphone has a MUCH better camera on it.
  16. Im fairly new to the forums and to geocaching but E.T, I believe means Estimated Time and FTF= First To Find. I am sorry to say I do not know what power trails are....anyone else?
  17. Once you hit "Go", hit the [X] then go to "Compass" and off you go. If you have directional maps, you can also choose "Where To" then "Change Route Activity" then "Automobile Driving" to get directed until close enough to switch "Route Activity" back to "Direct Routing" (Compass Mode). I wish I had known that before i went out. I was really getting frustrated! But thank you for helping me out. I am now super excited to try again! Just got to get all this snow to melt now!
  18. Located in the NW Wisconsin region Eau Claire/ Rice Lake are. Looking for a group to cache with
  19. i personally think its nice to know the date. Its fun to look through the log and see when the first log was made and then the last one before you log your own name down. Just IMHO but Im not a CO...yet..but if i was, I'd like to see the dates.
  20. well i feel dumb...i just went into the doc files for my Garmin and found out I needed to go to the compass to navigate to the GPS! doh! Well now i will have to go back out and test it out to see if it works! Sorry folks....
  21. i took my 450t out today for first time and was very frustrated! I downloaded some caches and selected one and hit go. The screen went to the map with no arrow or anything telling me how close i was to it. i had to pin it right on the cache icon to get the little info box to show up and there it would tell me but getting the pin on there was extremely hard and it kept moving around. Im sure I was doing it wrong and there is a much simpler way to navigate to the cache. I just havent figured it out yet! I did find the cache i was looking for, so it worked out LOL
  22. invest in snow shoes LOL i just trekked half mile through snow looking for a cache...we found it but wish we had wore snow shoes to get there. Got a nice cardio workout though!!
  23. My daughter is up in Canada now. Alberta. She has gone out to place a cache with some TBs in it for it. The TBs were gone when the FTF was made the day after the listing went active. Somebody is getting out in the cold weather though. Not extremely cold here. Hovering up and down below freezing. Had planned a train trip to one station that would have netted my at least 6 and maybe up to 16 caches. Rained though. Not dealing with a rather hard rain AND the cold. Its slightly above 20 degrees today. I downloaded some caches on my new unit and am thinking of getting my Columbia boots on and going for a hike to see how winter friendly caching can be...Id actually like for it to be a bit warmer. Not sure Im that brave yet LOL. Supposed to get 4-5 inches of snow after midnight tonight. It would be nice to find some other people in the area who like to geocache
